If Oikawa went to Shiratorizawa, would he have even stayed as the starting setter?
We all know of Ushijima wanting Oikawa to come to Shiratorizawa with the ever so famous phase, “You should have come to Shiratorizawa”. What if he did go?
First off, we know of Semi Eita. The third year setter and pinch server of Shiratorizawa. We know that he was the setter for maybe his first year and second year before Shirabu came and took it.
Semi was known not to play as safely such as not setting to only Ushijima in a game and taking risks on other players. The coach wasn’t happy about this and so Shirabu took the position of starting setter and set mostly only to Ushijima as seen in the third season of Haikyuu.
Oikawa is like Semi in a sense. Oikawa doesn’t only set to Iwaizumi. He sets to every other wing spiked as well. Not to mention, he takes risks when he plays such as the set that he did to Iwaizumi before he fell onto the table.
Here comes the question, would Oikawa stay as starting setter if he went to Shiratorizawa. There are two ways to see this.
1. He wouldn’t be Starting setter.
The coach of Shiratorizawa is obsessed with only the physical powers and skills of his players and not to mention obsessed with Ushijima. He constantly wants Ushijima to have the ball and win every single game. He think Ushijima is the way to win.
With Oikawa not always setting to Ushijima as well as having a hatred for Ushijima, it would probably make the coach so mad, he would bench Oikawa.
Oikawa’s power and skill wouldn’t matter if he isn’t using it to help Ushijima.
2. He would be the setter
The coach would be so excited about Oikawa power and skill that his not setting to Ushijima that much wouldn’t bother him.
I mean, what’s better than having one amazing player, but having two amazing players. It would make Shiratorizawa unstoppable.
In the end, those two ways have a fifty fifty chance of happening if Oikawa went to Shiratorizawa. Gladly, this never happened since Oikawa is loyal to Aoba Johsai.
