so I know ‘Innocent’ was written about a very infamous person & incident, but I had no idea about that context when I first listened to it?
When I first heard ‘Innocent’ I wasn’t diagnosed with OCD & anxiety yet and I was being plagued with ruminating about all my past “mistakes”, it was a really bad flare up & I felt like a horrible person. I was still a casual fan at the time, discovering all her songs and I came across one that I hadn’t heard before one night whilst in the backseat of my mums car driving home one night - Innocent.
I played it, and in that moment - for the first time in my life I felt like an artist had read my diary and was telling me what I needed to hear. I felt heard and safe. That feeling is such a pivotal moment in someone’s life & it’s so precious.
So I’m most excited to hear the re-recording of ‘Innocent’, I know it’s original context but for me it just shows how far I’ve come in my mental health journey & signifies the moment I became a true fan.
Idk, just thought I’d share!
