I finally finished the Witcher series fanart with all the plant/flower symbolism I ended up adding most of the things y’all requested and honestly…I had so much fun with this series.

I was really tempted to add another Ciri piece BUT hear me out — I kinda want to keep this series going once The Witcher 4 comes out + whatever DLCs we get. And then I can add all the new characters too…

A proposal

Sometimes, in fandom, we just want to write id-tastic fic that rolls around in tropes that might be viewed as problematic. But we don’t want to address the problematic side of things in this particular fanwork; we just want to roll around and wallow.

It is considered courteous to give readers a heads-up via use of AO3 tags. I propose a tag that signals that a given fanwork is for rolling around, not giving a measured evaluation of anything. The MCU has carved out a space for this sort of fic with the “HYDRA Trash Party” tag, for which I commend them. Trash Party is a bit too specific to cover all of the ground I’m thinking of here, though; I propose “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.”

For those of you not familiar with Arrested Development, Michael Bluth finds a paper bag in the freezer labeled “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat.” He opens the bag, finds a dead dove, and reacts as follows:

The “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” tag would essentially be a “what it says on the tin” metatag, indicating “you see the tropes and concepts tagged here? they are going to appear in this fic. exactly as said. there will not necessarily be any subversion, authorial commentary condemning problematic aspects, or meditation on potential harm. this fic contains dead dove. if you proceed, you should expect to encounter it.”

I finally got this thing out of my head. Texts are from "My Last Thought Before I Succumb to Sleep". I'll keep the context and my mumbles under the cut.

I originally planned for the time to be some point after the gwent journey story, depends on whether you view it as canon, I guess. But in general, it's just some time after his regeneration, Regis finds himself walking through this world all alone, again.

I'm yet to finish the books, I'm not sure whether the books would make it even more devastating for me, or would they prove these texts inaccurate. (Please no spoilers)

But I just wanted to make something for it, on its own. Something about it that really gets me is that it cuts open the other side of an perfect, calm, restrained, even saint-like character, so harshly that I cannot stop thinking about it. All his pain, his shame and his vulnerability that he would not show to others, to those he cares for and takes care of.

And in my heart I especially believe this selected part to be true. Cause it's indeed his path, one that neither side would really understand, one that he chose knowing this, one that he has doubts about (I think it's inevitable) yet still carries on.

He's someone who doesn't belong.

And that's what makes me love him so much and want to give him all the best things. But I still have to get this out of me, I'm sorry.

Here are the lineworks, cause I struggled hard and I do not know what it better. I'm not entirely happy with this thing but I have to move on. Maybe I'll continue working on the landscape sometime, maybe not.
