Advocating for Android as a free, open platform for everyone to build apps on.
Among the many reasons I am clawing my life back from Google.
don't infantilise yourself. you are not a child who needs an adult to make your decisions for you. you are a splendid and magnificent autocrat and you are consulting your trusted advisors. you are exercising great wisdom by inviting an expert to give their opinion before making your ruling. often the path of wisdom is to say "good morning, I'm trying to [perform task] and I have a question about [aspect], can you tell me who I should speak to for advice?" before you do it. sometimes the path of wisdom is to hire a plumber. there are times when you cannot do things for yourself but that doesn't mean you are not an adult. you don't need a grown-up. you need a specialist.
My thoughts on College:
I live in Cali, so take this with a grain of salt that costs $16.
The colleges I went to charged me $275 for "Materials" and were just lecture classes where we didn't have any actual materials we used, we just sat in desks. I paid the fee and went to the classes.
My first class was a Painting class where I just found out I could paint some cool demonic violent horror stuff inspired by Silent Hill and I could easily wow a crowd with my poetic explanations of what they meant that I came up with on the spot.
The second class was a Psychology class where I asked a lot of questions about criminal psychology and what makes us think the way we do and nature vs nurture, and all of those questions were answered with "That's not what we're talking about today but we'll get to that." (Spoiler: We never got to that. We talked about why vegetarianism is morally correct. I'm not kidding.)
I dropped out during finals week and just said fuck it, I wasn't learning anything in either class. I did sell a painting for $6000 to someone, and another for $3000, so that just informed me I was good at making marketable art. But I knew that before I took the class. That's my career.
So!
In the last 2 months, I've been learning to use Blender to make 3D. In that short time, I've picked up tons of skills, found communities that can answer some specific questions that AI can't answer (such as "Hey, what's that custom node you're using?" when watching a speed-modeling video. AI can't really tell me what someone's custom node is) and have managed to start actively working with 3D in a way that complements and improves my art.
Almost entirely by literally just loading up Copilot, that AI that everyone on Bluesky made panic tutorials on how to uninstall because it "Takes screenshots of your desktop and sends them to Microsoft" because that'd be totally efficient, right? Let's literally ask the AI to do the math on that.
The question: If we take a ballpark average of how many people ACTIVELY use Copilot, and then a 1440x1080 screencap taken every 1 hour on each of those devices, how much data would be transferred daily, how many screenshots would that be, and how many employees would have to work for how long if each one of them spent a grand total of 6 seconds looking at each image?
So what I'm getting at here?
I've learned more by knowing what questions to ask to AI and how to utilize the answers it gives than I learned in a full year of college.
And people on Tumblr, Bluesky, Reddit and Twitter will still rant to you about every possible thing they can to tell you that AI is evil and horrible and bad and wants to steal your identity and is bad for the environment.
Here, while we're at it, lemmie just real quick do some math on the whole "Every ChatGPT input costs 15 bottles of water to cool the server computer" bullshit.
The question for the AI: If we were to pretend that liquid cooling systems don't recycle the liquid inside of them and it just evaporates or whatever people think happens in liquid cooling, how much water would have to be pumped into the ChatGPT server computer for every single individual prompt that it has to answer?
People just...
Doomscream about anything that makes life easier. Like imagine if these people saw that wheelchair companies started investing in robotic legs and spinal reconstruction surgeries and started screaming that it's hurting the environment to help crippled people walk.
Case in point: People for years now have failed to google something they're confused about, the information to answer their question has been right there for years and they haven't bothered to do it.
Now, we literally have AI that can answer the most complex mathematical questions possible, like my question of "Would you be lucky or unlucky if you failed a 50/50 chance 100 times in a row?"
It's helped me learn programming language, it's helped me build the foundation of my game, it's helped me learn game development engines, it's helped me optimize Photoshop for my 2D art, it's taught me how to use Blender, etc etc etc.
We literally have something 500,000,000x more efficient than college at teaching us new skills (In fact I'mma ask it to do the math lmao. Looks like 3x as efficient if you're focusing on a specific thing you want to learn, since a college would take generally 3-4 years for you to master a skill but would teach you other things involved with the skill and generally helps you get on the path to a career whereas if you're just trying to learn a skill to do at home, AI will teach you the same skills in 8-12 months on average). I'mma ask it how to make a really good pizza grilled cheese right now. Let's see what it says.
I literally went afk to make a pizza grilled cheese. Catch me in the kitchen whipping together butter and garlic powder, tomato sauce and oregano and olive oil, and putting some texas toast in a pan with some mozzarella and pepperoni, with my brother walking in like "What monstrosity are you making" and I'm like "The robot overlords have informed me on how to stop my heart as quickly and efficiently as possible and I will not disobey."
This wasn't gonna be so damn long but it got long.
TLDR: I really just don't think college is worth it anymore. We now have easy access to AI that can tutor us without question. Why the hell would we need to go to college, assuming we know what questions to ask? That's all school should be teaching us. How to ask questions, where to ask them, and how to get answers. All of which can be done with AI now.
I really have come to the opinion that college is a waste of time and money that we’re pressuring kids into as soon as they turn 18. No one knows what they want to do or what degrees will be useful to them at that age and so many go into useless humanities programs like English or art because that’s what their interested in and is their hobby, but they don’t really understand how to make this kind of decision for their career because they don’t have one yet.
I changed my major like three times in college and if I could go back I would change it again and make completely different choices because what I thought i might want to do at 18 is nowhere near what I’m doing now and now I know what degrees might actually useful.
Long way to say I agree with you about college. It used to be necessary but it’s really not anymore and most of them are just turning into liberals instead of free thinkers.
People shouldn’t be pressured into it until they know what they want to do so they know if they need to spend that much money on education. Like if you want to be a doctor or lawyer or engineer then you’ll need to go to school. But if you want to make art or write books you really don’t need to. Useless degrees should be done away with. And instead we’re just adding more.
And with the internet, you can basically teach yourself anything.
And I’ve never been completely on board the whole AI hate and AI is evil train. I think it can be a very useful tool when utilized properly. The danger though is it’s easy to overdo it and can be a threat in the hands of the wrong institutions. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using it on a personal level to learn things and find information. As long as we use it carefully with the understanding that it’s not always accurate.
Oh good, now I have a cheat sheet for Uncensored Nate
We (as a society) keep pathologizing normal human behavior and experiences, and it's a really big problem.
Everything unpleasant is automatically called "trauma". Do you have something that you're interested in? You're autistic and that's a hyperfixation. How about a favorite food, a daily routine, or any kind of social awkwardness? That is also autism. Are you a five-year-old boy who has trouble sitting still all day? Did you go stir-crazy when the government locked everyone inside their houses during covid? Here's your ADHD diagnosis, now shut up and take the pills. No one has "stage fright" anymore, it's always "social anxiety", because anyone who feels anxious has an anxiety disorder. Are you still sad about your grandma dying even though it happened over a month ago? You have depression, here's some more pills. Are you a boy who likes pink? Are you a girl who likes sports? Does it feel weird that your body is changing during puberty? Gender dysphoria, the hormones and/or puberty blockers start in a week and the surgeries will start next month. Was someone mean to you? They're obviously a narcissistic sociopath. You don't want to have sex with strangers, or before marriage? You're either on the asexuality spectrum or a brainwashed, prejudiced, unhealthily-repressed moron. Did your parents not let you do whatever you wanted when you were a kid? Did they disapprove of a life choice you made as an adult? They're controlling and abusive; you should cut them out of your life and never talk to them ever again.
(To be clear: I'm not saying that no one actually has depression/autism/etc. PTSD is a very real thing. But people making fun of your interests during middle school does not give you PTSD.)
It's encouraging people to see themselves as helpless victims. It's enabling the crybullies. It's turning what could have been brief episodes into lifelong struggles, because when you're told something is a disorder and it won't go away, you start to believe that it can't go away, and so it never does. It's spreading social contagions like crazy.
The real problem is our obsession with having problems.
The real problem is our obsession with having problems.
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
You are absolutely 100% right.
This applies to poverty, too, I've noticed. And "oppression". Being oppressed, mentally ill, and poor is how modern left wing ideologies define virtue. And they define sin as trying to improve those states through any action other than violent revolution. So you end up with a whole bunch of miserable, angry young people being encouraged to commit violence instead of trying to improve their lives (which is very possible, usually with a minimal effort too).
This is mental. Original listing of a beautiful stone cottage that could look like a fairy tale.

THE VERGE REVIEW OF ANIMALS, STARRING: THE CAPYBARA
The next time you set a mousetrap, remember: that mouse’s distant cousin is one of the most adorable creatures on the planet — a creature that offers rides to monkeys, a rodent so unique that the Pope threw his hands up in defeat and called it a fish.
MBTI Terms vs Conventional Meaning
One of the main problems with MBTI is that this theory uses rather common words to indicate types, but these MBTI “jargon” actually have completely different meanings from their conventional usage. This leads to misunderstandings of what the actual MBTI theory is about.
Moreover, most MBTI tests give you results based on percentages of I vs E, S vs N, T vs F, and J vs P. This creates a misunderstanding that the theory is based on the dichotomies between each letter pair, and that someone can be half J and half P, for example.
Let’s explore what MBTI terms really mean, and how they differ from the conventional meanings of these words, and the misinterpreted stereotypical/dichotomous “MBTI” meanings.
Introvert (I)
Introvert (conventional & stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who likes to spend time alone, preferring to be in their own room reading books
Someone who dislikes parties or any kinds of social gatherings
Probably shy and doesn’t talk much, may have social anxiety
Has few close friends, or, no real life friends
Has low energy
Introvert (MBTI)
Having a dominant introverted function (Ti, Fi, Ni, or Si)
A preference for focusing their energy inward e.g. tending to their own thoughts alone, analyzing themselves and their environment
A preference for formulating complete thoughts or theories on their own first before sharing them with other people
An MBTI introvert can be outgoing and sociable, but they still feel more at home being with their own thoughts and get worn out faster when interacting with people than extraverts
Extravert (E)
Extravert (conventional & stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who’s outgoing and a social butterfly
Loves parties
Has a large group of friends and large network of acquaintances
Great at networking and making new friends
Talkative and socially confident
Energetic
Extravert (MBTI)
Having a dominant extraverted function (Te, Fe, Ne, or Se)
A preference for focusing their energy outward e.g. interacting with the outside world by talking to others or taking actions and interacting with their surroundings
A preference for formulating their thoughts as they talk out loud to other people without having completely polished thoughts beforehand
An MBTI extravert can have social anxiety and dislike spending time with a large group of people, but they still have a preference of interacting with the outside world. An MBTI extravert may only prefer spending time with their few close friends, but they need to interact with those few close friends a lot to feel fulfilled and balanced.
Ambivert
Ambivert (conventional)
Someone who has both qualities of the conventional introvert and the conventional extravert in moderate amount
i.e. pretty much everyone on earth
Ambivert (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who gets 50% E and 50% I on MBTI tests
Ambivert (MBTI)
This is a trick. It doesn’t exist in this theory.
Why? Because of each type’s thought process works based on 4 cognitive functions (out of 8). You can’t be half this type and half the other type because you’d have conflicting cognitive functions - i.e. constant cognitive dissonance with every single living thought, so you’d not be a functioning human (get the pun?).
For the more advanced MBTI enthusiasts: Yes, introverts and extraverts with the same last 3 letters have the same functions (e.g. INTP and ENTP), but you still can’t really be half-half because Ti-Ne and Ne-Ti approach the world differently. They experience different problems and stress factors (Ti-Si loop and Fe grip v.s. Ne-Fe loop and Si-grip).
If you don’t know what cognitive functions are, start with this.
Intuitive (N)
Intuitive (conventional)
Knowing something to be true without conscious reasoning or the need to go through information
“Women’s intuition”
Having an almost psychic ability to “get” people
Fluid intelligence (e.g. an intuitive learner)
Intuitive (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
An intelligent, interesting person who gets all the funny jokes and subtle hints that people give
Imaginative, creative, artistic, explorative
Intuitive (MBTI)
Someone who prefers to use interpretations of information they receive from the 5 senses - e.g. possibilities of what these things could be, their theoretical usage, and what they relate to (Ne), or what these things symbolically represent and will become in the future (Ni)
A preference for discussing theoretical, abstract, symbolic topics
A preference to understand the global, overall picture before getting into details
Being an Intuitive does not equate being intelligent. There are plenty of boring Intuitives around. It depends on how you develop yourself.
Sensing (S)
Sensing (conventional)
Quite similar to the conventional meaning of intuition - having a feeling that there’s something going on beneath the surface (e.g. “I’m sensing something wrong here”)
Perceiving or becoming aware of something
Sensor (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
An unintelligent, boring person who always misses hints and has no sense of humor
Bland, boring, dull, mediocre
Sensing (MBTI)
Someone who prefers to use direct information they receive from the 5 senses - e.g. what these things are and what I can use them for right now (Se), or what these things are and how they have been used effectively in the past (Si)
A preference for discussing practical, applicable, immediately relevant topics
A preference for learning details first, then build those details up to an overall picture
Sensors can be intelligent, creative, and artistic (yes, even SJs)
Thinking (T)
Thinking (conventional)
The process of considering or reasoning about something
Directing one’s mind towards something or someone
Thinking (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who thinks a lot
Making decisions based on logic and rationality
Someone who is calm and intelligent
Someone who is robotic and stoic, and doesn’t have any emotions
Someone who is doing something technical like hard sciences and maths
Like a stereotypical man
Thinking (MBTI)
A preference for making decisions based on facts, truth and logical analysis (Ti), rationality and empirical evidence (Te)
MBTI Thinkers can learn to be considerate and not offensive to others, especially if their feeling function is in the tertiary position.
MBTI Thinkers have emotions, and can act emotionally/irrationally, especially in times of stress or if immature
MBTI Thinkers are not automatically good at science and math, and may not even like those subjects. They can be amazing artists and musicians.
Feeling (F)
Feeling (conventional)
An emotional state or reaction
Experiencing an emotion or sensation
Feeling (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who feels a lot and doesn’t think a lot
Making decisions based on emotions
An emotional person; someone who’s dramatic, may be animated, sweet, and nice
Most likely unintelligent, not academic, and incapable of logical thinking
Someone who is doing something involving arts, languages, or humanities
Like a stereotypical woman
Feeling (MBTI)
A preference for making decisions based on what is morally just, personal ethics (Fi) or keeping social harmony (Fe)
MBTI Feelers can be logical, think empirically, good at science and math, and does not act emotional
MBTI Feelers can be bashful and inconsiderate, especially if immature or under stress
Judging (J)
Judging (conventional)
Forming an opinion or conclusion about something
Being judgmental; determining whether qualities someone or something has are correct or desirable
Judging (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who is organized, responsible, structured, neat, clean, tidy
Someone who is always on time
Someone who loves schedules and needs to plan ahead
Judging (MBTI)
Having a dominant (if extraverted) or auxiliary (if introverted) extraverted judging functions (Je) - Te, Fe
Judgers can be messy, spontaneous, and always late (especially in leisure). These are learned behaviors/habits. Their external behaviors do not dictate their MBTI (i.e. thought process).
Perceiving (P)
Perceiving (conventional)
The way the brain processes external information through the 5 senses
Becoming aware of something
Interpreting something in a particular way
Perceiving (stereotypical/dichotomous MBTI)
Someone who is messy, scattered, disorganized, lazy, unreliable
Someone who is always late
Someone who is easy going and always go with the flow
Someone who is spontaneous and loves surprises
Perceiving (MBTI)
Having a dominant (if extraverted) or auxiliary (if introverted) extraverted perceiving functions (Pe) - Ne, Se
Perceivers can be outwardly organized, tidy, and always on time (especially in the work place or if they grew up in that environment). These are learned behaviors/habits. Their external behaviors do not dictate their MBTI (i.e. thought process).
