naeun doesn’t mind doing interviews too much. most of the time, half of what she says is cut out anyways to save space in the magazine column they’re squeezing her answers into. nonetheless, she straightens her dress and crosses her legs, facing the interviewer behind the camera with a smile. with a nod, she gives her the go ahead.
what is one thing you never leave the house without?
“my phone,” she says. her answer is quick, maybe a little too much so. naeun laughs. “or whatever bag i’m using at the moment. does that still count as one thing? you know, if the one thing is rotational? at the moment, it’s just a plain canvas tote bag. i’ve been trying not to take away from my actual outfits with it.”
what is your favorite article of clothing?
“currently, my favourite piece of clothing is probably my new polo shirt. it’s a cute little woolen burberry thing. i like wearing it with grey or black jeans for a casual daytime look.” an expensive casual daytime look. but if naeun isn’t going to spend her money, then who is? she spends it sensibly most of the time, so she thinks she deserves a treat every now and then.
if you could splurge on one new piece of clothing, what would it be and why?
“what constitutes a splurge?” she asks, tapping her chin thoughtfully. “it might be surprising to some people, but i don’t actually buy expensive items all that often. i will every once in a while, of course, hence the burberry polo shirt, but ... well, it would have to be a new coat for the winter. something sleek and wearable open or closed.”
if there was one clothing brand you could work with, who would it be and why?
“it’s no secret that i love burberry. that has to be my answer. i think that they’re so iconic and that their pieces are timeless. i want to be a face and a name that’s remembered for years too and never goes out of style, just like them. so, if i could work with them, then i would maybe be a step closer to achieving that dream.”
what’s your favorite season?
“i like all of the seasons for different reasons, but i think autumn is my favourite overall. winter and spring are close seconds though. i like all of them because of the seasonal fashion. summer gets on my nerves because i don’t like sweating. it’s fine to sweat if you’re exercising or practicing, but in summer you sweat for no reason, even if you’re completely still.”
what’s your favorite seasonal activity?
“ice skating! i’m only alright at it, but i’d like to be better. i think figure skating is really elegant, and i’d love to be able to do it. this winter, i’d love to go ice skating, and then walk home under the stars with a hot chocolate to warm my hands.”
what’s the next step in your career, solo or otherwise?
“obviously iota are still going strong, and i’d like for us to continue as the nine of us for as long as possible. other than that, i want to venture into my own solo activities. i mainly want to work in modeling and in the fashion world, and maybe release solo music one day.”
if you donated to a charity, which would you choose and why?
“i would donate to a charity that looks out for disadvantaged kids and their families. my parents shielded me from a lot of our financial struggles when i was younger, so i’d like to try and give back to make it easier for other parents in their positions.”
if you could spend an afternoon with your fandom/your artist’s fandom, would you want to? if so, what would you do together?
she wouldn’t, but if she had to ... “oh, of course i would, yeah, totally. i’d bring them behind the scenes of an iota music video! or maybe, they could be in it.” ugh, she’s going to be sick. they did ask if she wanted to but naeun knows that there’s never any ifs about it.
how well do you deal with crowds and attention on you?
“i love the attention. i love it.” naeun laughs. the attention is the only reason she’s here. “that goes without saying, doesn’t it? there’s no better feeling than being on stage in front of a crowd.”
