Concrete Jungle
The world around me cascades with foggy outlines of higher clouds, on the precious of dusk with all the intensity of high noon. No sun in sight; the long, spanning landscape is a snaking mess of blank, solid concrete structures, like a labyrinth that drops off into an unknowable abyss beyond their walls, far out of reach.
I walk the labyrinth to find colorful playgrounds hidden between the allies of stone. Some are ordained with vibrant slides, others a mix of mesh and climbing bars that reach up impossibly far yet never reaching the tops of the walls that cage us in.
Others are here, playing among the structures designed for their physical enjoyment, yet despite how childish this setup caters to it seems that all around me are in their teens.
There's a sense of freedom I've never known; no obligation, no worry, no future and no past — somehow a mix of intangible memories that seem to have no source, but instead a feeling and instinct that trails along with my understanding. I am supposed to be here, I am supposed to enjoy it, I am supposed to be at peace.
The children play, but not inside the grounds structures; instead, they linger outside, sometimes playing on the climbing frames but never going into anything that is enclosed from this strange outside world.
As I approach a slide, I cannot see the light that should have bled in through the thin red plastic, or the light that should have been coming in from its entrance at the top. There is only shadow: a deep, unpredictable darkness within that accompanies a foreboding feeling of anxiety.
Why won't anyone step into the shadows? Why do we languish here? Why do I not want to look into the dark? Why am I suddenly afraid?
This is a really strange reoccurring dream I have every once in a while. Some details change as time goes on, but the setting is always the same and I always start in a different place.
I have a lot of these odd dreams and I have posted about one of them before, so I figured, why not another one?
I'll probably do more of these but let me know what you think because I can't make heads or tails of it personally. It's very strange.
