☆ -- lonely boy ( nymphxlis )
He’s always felt somewhere in his heart that the universe was determined to 𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙚 him with unhappiness. Maybe that feeling is wrong, maybe it’s just that he’s not very likable and what he’s feeling is his own fault, but he’s never managed to hold on to happiness for long. He can’t keep a steady relationship to save his life, he’s lost all his friends, and he’s just barely holding himself together with 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙥𝙤𝙬𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩 𝙩𝙖𝙥𝙚 at this point, working himself to exhaustion to avoid dreaming.
Sometimes he just dreams anyway, and wakes up crying. Crying for the people who left him, or 𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙙 him, and most notably, his mother and father. They hadn’t even left him with someone to raise, they had just… left him in the jungle to die. That’s how his mum had found him– just a babe in a basket, hanging from a tree branch like an offering to the birds to take him away.
When he returned to the jungle as an adult, searching for some sign of the nymphs who had thrown him away, he did find his mother. He found her happy, with a daughter, hardly thinking about the son she left for 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙙. And when he spoke to her, in a dead language he didn’t know he spoke, she only confirmed for him his worst fears– that she had abandoned him knowing something would take him away. That they had thought he would be an omen of destruction, and had left him for Hades to claim. They had never expected a human to find him– they had never expected for him to 𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚.
When he asked about his father, it wasn’t much better. He wasn’t there with the village, of course. His mother said he was as bright and as beautiful as the 𝙨𝙪𝙣, and that he didn’t want either of them, so he should quit searching.
Desmond hopes she’s eaten alive with guilt every day for the way he cried when she told him. Because every awful thing he’d ever thought about himself was true– he was cursed, he was unwanted, and he was just as worthless as he thought.
He’s in a dream forcing him to remember it all when he feels something shaking him, and he wakes in a panic, tears still wet on his face, his hair and pillow damp. When his eyes adjust to being awake, he sees the person’s form changing in front of him into an attractive young man.
There’s many reactions Desmond considers. Were it a few years ago– before he’d met all sorts of things that go bump in the night– he might have screamed at this weird intrusion into his home. But now he’s just tired, and sad, and 𝙬𝙚𝙩.
“Uh. Hi. Sorry I feel like I… missed the memo. Why are you here?”
*。⋆ ☆ The Entity pauses, blank-faced, looking as if they’re scanning their mental database for the word ‘ memo ’. Star has never heard such a word used and became baffled -- but shrugged it off as a ‘ mortal thing ’. Since they can only be on earth bounded to one of it’s living, they don’t ever get to learn of COMMON EARTH things, thus, many things to them seem odd and normal phrases are alien to them. “ I came from the sky? ” They simply replied unsure how to respond. They leaned over to wipe the tears from Indigo orbs and give a few comforting pets to fluffy green locks.
“ And I’m here to help you... I call myself Star. ” Confusion is normal from the living, so as Star has done a hundred times over, they start to explain. The comforting hand advances towards the lonely neck, frigid fingers grab at the air barely an inch away from the skin to reveal a GOLD and SHINING string around the nymph’s neck that’s tieing him to the odd star being. They give it a tug and it shines brighter as if they just irritated it.
“ Something inside you called me here to earth for help. So... I can’t return home until I’ve helped you and until then we’re bound together. ” They free the string and it disappears once more. Most people don’t take this as PROOF and so Star gives Desmond space before lips pucker and blow into a pale palm, suddenly butterflies are created from NOTHING. They flutter around the room before popping into star-shaped bubbles that smell of roses.
“ I can create anything... and grant your wish. ” They give a pure and calm smile in hopes of more comfort. “ There’s no need to WORRY. ”
