A little update about To Only See Darkness for the curious girlies…

I’ve taken a bit of a break for a few reasons. First of all, I watched the movie and read the book Project: Hail Mary and it has completely consumed my day to day life lol.

And second of all, I have been a bit stuck with where to take the story after the last few chapters since I altered it quite a bit and I’m struggling to decide how to proceed. (Example: Iroh was not meant to be this present in Katara’s side of the story and was meant more like a cameo, and there have been a lot of changes on Sokka’s side too - all for the better I think but still😵‍💫)

I can give some more details after this book is wrapped up because I don’t want to spoil anything 😅.

But to wrap this uppp… next chapter is about half done, I just need to tackle Katara’s pov, so hopefully it doesn’t take me too long but no promises 🫣.

Hey everyone. I am putting To Only See Darkness on an indefinite break. While I have loved interacting with people and writing this story, it has also been insanely mentally taxing, basically going through a mini crisis after posting every chapter and I can’t keep this up anymore…

I have to put some focus on my real life, my studies and try to actually live life instead of just watch it pass by… hope you understand:)

I will also probably focus on the other projects I’ve had collecting dust in my docs for what feels like years at this point, it’s mostly non ATLA stuff though 😅

Hello, I was hanging out with my friend the other day, and we, for fun, put our fics through an AI detector. For some reason, mine showed almost 100% AI even though I don't even touch AI with a stick... I have been really self concious since then whether people think I just use AI for my writing and I've been really discouraged about even continuing to write... Since you're like the person for fanfics on my feed, I thought I would ask for your opinion. Do I need to change my writing style to make it less "AI-like"? Thank you!

first of all, ai detector is unreliable. it's known to falsely detect genuine human-made works as ai, and ai works as human-made. (I think it's safe to assume ai detector itself is run by ai?)

*actually I don't think it's possible for a machine — or even a human being — to accurately say which work was written by ai and which one was not, and trying to determine if a work, a fanfic, was written by ai would only end in witch-hunt and genuine writers getting wrongly accused of using ai. overall it would just do more harm than good.

second of all, please don't run your own works, or anybody's works, through ai detector. not only because it is highly unreliable but also because, by running a work through the detector, you are feeding that work to ai.

last but not least, no, I don't think you have to change your writing style to look "less ai" at all. why? because it's not your works that look ai, it's ai-generated works that "look human-made". always remember that ai is trained on genuine human-made works, it's trained to mimic human-made works. so if a human-made work "looks ai", it's because that's what ai is trained on, what it's train to mimic, and ai works are only getting more and more "human-like", because it keeps mimicking and developing to look "more human".

I know this can be discouraging, but no matter how "human-like" an ai-generated work gets, one thing it can never achieve is the soul and passion a human has for their art.

so keep creating your works. I promise the joy of getting to create your own art, be it fan art or fanfics or any other forms of art, and being passionate about it is worth it
