Just gonna add an update to that: I recently had eye surgery, so my eye is very light sensitive right now. It will gradually go away over the course of about a month, but until it's back to normal I won't be able to work on that portrait since I need to turn up the brightness a lot to see the colors accurately, especially since there's a lot of color variation of a very similar dark value. I like that portrait a lot and I want it to look right before I upload it, so yeah. We're all gonna have to wait a while longer

You’re welcome! It’s sad to see beginners get disappointed or frustrated in themselves because their drawing or painting doesn’t turn out the way they wanted, because let’s face it, we’ve all been there. (Not saying that’s how you felt, but more in general. It’s too common for people to give up before they’ve even started, and that’s a tragedy in itself.)

I would recommend checking out Robin Clonts on YouTube, who paints realistic paintings from photographs. Her videos are a lot of fun, she has a great sense of visual comedy and in this video for example, she talks about things like color matching (with demonstrations!) and other general things that are always useful regardless of skill level. She specializes in oil or acrylic paintings of landscapes and water, but you can always learn something. (Also it’s just Good Wholesome Content in general.)

The best way to get better at painting is practice, of course, but also observation! Looking at other artists and how they do it, even trying to copy others, is a great way to learn! As you keep observing and trying things out, you’ll also get better at noticing things you didn’t before. 

Lastly, while it might seem like I’m taking all of this Super Seriously, it really is a good thing to laugh at your own failure. Not getting upset when things go wrong is always a good thing, and there are way too many artists who either get angry or defensive (or both) when they tried to do something and didn’t succeed. Keep having fun! That really is the most important part.

Workout Boy! Gonna get Strong! I played a little after uploading that last pic, and Rory evolved almost immediately. I guess I was just in time!

Child Boys! Finally got Moon not long ago, and I decided on Primo as my starter! I then got a litten and a ditto from my sister so I could breed one with a nature I liked, and after over two boxes of littens I finally got one with Jolly nature, which I thought fit him best. His name is Rory, and he hasn't evolved yet bc I can only play a little at a time. So! Incineroar Gijinka is now called Rory, and here's him and Primo as they are in the game right now! I gave Primo a Quick Claw to compensate for his relatively low Speed stat, but he's kinda overleveled and probably doesn't really need it right now... (Primo is a Strong Boy and I love him)

In case it's not becoming obvious enough, Incineroar is...kiiiind of a fan of Alolan Persian. As in, he absolutely adores it and thinks it's the cutest thing ever (Primo secretly pulled some strings to get that kigurumi tailor-made for Incineroar bc they don't sell them in his size)

Really wish I had like a writing buddy who I could show the stuff I’ve written to, like stories and stuff

Bc just reading my own stuff over and over again with no outside input is awful and I can’t tell if what I’ve written is in any way good or if it’s complete garbage

Like I wrote this thing for a writing prompt but I honestly can’t tell if it’s worth posting or if I should edit the hell out of it first or if it’s not even worth it and I should just delete it

Beach Boys, round 2 Trying out some hair variations, still struggling with Incineroar's face, not much else to say

Primo without costume and makeup, and in need of a re-dye I think the reason his nose is always red is because he's naturally very cold, and he's decided to incorporate it into his image rather than cover it up Another idea I had was for him to have shaved/buzzed hair and that he wears wigs, which would actually make more sense. Now that I think about it, that would probably have made for a more striking image as well, but I wanted to draw him with unstyled hair so oh well. Maybe he shaves his head at a later point. He definitely seems like the kind of guy who would make sacrifices in the name of fashion

Casual Beach Summer Look™, followed by me realizing I don't know how Incineroar's face works and trying to figure it out, and also a Primo After deciding the top drawing was finished, I realized I'd forgotten Incineroar's arm tattoos, but then I thought that maybe they're not tattoos at all and are applied as part of his costume, which is pretty cute.

…Anyway, Primo seems like the sort of guy who would just randomly pose like he’s doing a photoshoot. Not 100% sure what his relationship with Currently Unnamed Incineroar is, if they’re boyfriends or if they’re friends who haven’t realized their mutual attraction for each other yet

Drew this guy just after the final evos were confirmed. In the early stages of sketching I realized how much he looked like a JoJo character, and decided to just roll with it (his stand would be called Simple and Clean and creates bubbles that release sonic waves when they burst) I've been referring to him as Primarino in my head, or Primo for short. Not super original, but whatever

Finally found a use for a piece of unfinished artwork: editing it to match current youtuber shenanigans

The original painting was from back in May and it always kinda bothered me that I never finished it or uploaded it or yknow did anything at all with it

I could spend an eternity editing and fixing all the problems and polishing it all nice but then I would never be free, so on the art blog it goes
