Tycutio Week is coming back!
From July 20st to July 26st, we will have the Tycutio Week 2026! Use the tag #tycutioweek2026 to participate!
What is this event?
It's a week to celebrate tycutio with art, fanfics, crafts, even the sims screenshotsโฆ Anything goes, as long you don't use generative AI.
There are three prompts for each day of the week, you can choose one or mix them! They are here to inspire you and see what people can come up with.
If you want to participate, you don't have to do anything besides post your work at the right day - although it's okay if you are late. Use the tag #tycutioweek for easy finding! You don't need to do every single day to participate.
Unlike events like mermay, inktober, etc., we suggest to make your works ahead of time and have it ready for the week.
I hope you participate! Any questions send me an ask!
no-simmers tycutio shippers are also invited :3
sorry guys i ended up doing the mbappe special
Soooo, over a year ago when I was working on my beloved Veronaville lore slideshow, I played the Monty household to ensure that my information was accurate. I found that, despite the Sims wiki saying that Juliette insults Mercutio during the scripted event (after Romeo tries to make out with her), it's actually Mercutio who insults Juliette.
I said this on my slideshow, but I didn't change the wiki in case it was just my game. I brought it up again in a couple of Discord servers, and it seems like it isn't just my game, so I'm pleased to announce that I've finally cleared Juliette's name on her, Romeo, and Mercutio's wiki pages <3
With that being said, it seems like she autonomously initiates fight interactions toward Mercutio outside of the scripted events, but she clearly has her reasons smh /lh
I (finally) decided to make a Tumblr post about this misinformation because it seems to have spread quite a bit among Veronavillians over the years.
There's something interesting about it, too. When the game begins, this is Mercutio's relationship towards Juliette:
Whereas this is is Juliette's relationship towards Mercutio:
Despite Mercutio having a positive daily relationship towards Juliette, he is hard coded to go insult her if Romeo attempts to make out with her. But because of this difference in points, if the player does not tell Romeo make out with Juliette straight away, she might autonomously choose to insult Mercutio first. This, however, will not trigger Tybalt to attack Mercutio. The scripted event only moves forward if Mercutio decides to insult Juliette himself.
I believe part of why the misinformation spread unchecked - to the point where even I myself kept the incorrect detail when editing the wiki - is because of this difference in relationship points, which changes how they will autonomously behave towards one another. But Juliette's NPC behavior is not reflective of what the devs actually wanted with the scripted event. What is intended is for Mercutio to start the fight.
So in the end your find is a really important one to keep the wiki 100% accurate. It's a bit crazy that for years, we end up letting the incorrect information stay up.
the reactions and conversations i've been seeing on simblr lately have been disgusting and disturbing. i'm coming to the realization that a lot of you guys are wolves in sheep's clothing. the response to black and brown simmers expressing their disappointment in the community they're a part of should never be "you are acting so entitled!"
entitled to what? a realistic experience in a community built upon a game that has always been about personalization and representation? is it seriously too much to ask to have hair cc that represents your own hairstyle in a sandbox life simulator? i'm sorry, but some of you have gotten extremely comfortable letting your racism show.
"i only make the content i want! if you want this kind of content, make it yourself!" you need to ask yourself why you only want to make cc based on eurocentric standards of beauty. why are you so afraid of having the slightest bit of melanin in your game?
i am a white person before i am gay, before i am trans, before i am autistic. some of you guys need to realize this as well. racism is a bonding experience between races and what i've been seeing is blatant and unapologetic racism. my friends have been getting dogpiled and dragged every which way by some very loud and very bold people who i think need to educate themselves. some of yall need to confront your own internalized racism. do not settle for a sub-par experience in a community that needs to do better just because you think it's what you deserve.
rounding this post out, i want you all to know that my page is made for people of any race, gender, sexuality, etc. i do not care what you look like, if you love this game the same way i do i want you to be a part of my page. that being said, racism, transphobia, homophobia, basically any kind of discrimination will not be tolerated. i use my own education, my own discretion, and my own block button to determine who i want on this page. do the same if you have an issue with anything i've said. i do not want you on my fucking page if you think referring to people of color as "you people" is acceptable or adult behavior. you look stupid as fuck.
to be honest with you i was pretty angry when i wrote this but i agree with everything i said. i want to add a few things onto this.
1. white people in this community need to start speaking up and speaking out against racism. it should not only be on people of color to express their disappointment and discomfort in a racist community. if there is a single good bone in your body and you are white, get angry, get loud, get defensive, and use your voice for those who get ridiculed, bullied, and even further harmed by racism when they post about it. do not turn a blind eye anymore. it is not only up to people of color to try to build a healthy community.
2. i want permanent change. we need to start calling these racist people out, we need to start excluding them. do not download or reblog their content, as far as i'm aware these people do not exist. who knows if this will bring real change, but we cannot be powerless and motionless.
3. intersectionality is the core of a great movement. we need to start caring about each other a lot more because individualism kills movements. the aim of the oppressor is to divide and conquer. if we start hating each other because "i don't like gay content" or "i just don't have a lot of people of color in my game" or whatever weak excuse people say noawadays, true change will never come.
i know i sound pretty hopeful about real reform but i think it's possible. i also know that there's some people going "why do you hate white people so much if you're white?" and i want those people to stop and think about what ive said for a moment. i do not hate white people. in fact, hate gets us nowhere. white people, myself included, are taught racism from the systemic structures that form a society and the people that bring us up. it is an unavoidable fact that all people have been racist before or are currently now racist. yes, that one time in elementary school counts. it all counts and it all matters. if people of color are forced to experience racism on the day to day, i think white people can confront the fact that we are the largest perpetuators of racist ideas.
so what do we do now? well, we aren't too far gone and i know that miseducation is a huge factor in racism. start using the resources at your disposal. you can start reading about it, angela davis is an incredibly accomplished author who has some great things to say. if reading isn't your thing, there are some great youtubers who speak on race-related issues. f.d. signifier's videos on black conservatism opened my eyes. foreign fridays/foreign man in a foreign land has some really great videos. they both analyze modern issues through a lens of intersectionality and critical race theory. please also note that just watching these videos is not activism or anything like that. use what you learn to help. get educated, it's free!
finally, my goal is to help. people get a lot less angry at white people for speaking up on these issues which you can tell by the way that my comment section is void of the usual ridicule and insults that people of color get thrown at them. if what im saying is counterproductive, or if i've said something insensitive, it is your right to critique me and my arguments. i want to do better and constructive criticism lets me know where i need to do better.
buncha portraits pt. 2 ๐ผ๏ธ
Literally every default face template set on earth that I've ever seen be like: what if every single sim looked the exact same as each other. and also they're all white
Can't have Asian features or Black features or Indigenous features because they're too #ugly and the Sims 2 community memes on it constantly about how #gross and #ugly they are and how that's why we need defaults that are just 25 clones of the same white guy with a button nose and round eyes. Oh and elf and alien I guess. I GUESS.
"but what if i want my sims to look UNIQUE instead of looking like Maxis face template sim #3874358" you know you can make unique looking sims with the maxis templates right. you know you can just Do that, right. it's not hard. for fuck's sake.
also bold take but i don't think 28 templates with the same vague shape of fucking button noses and round eyes are "unique"
Isbrealiomcaife's All Around the World face templates have been around for over 20 years. 8 years ago @ivy-sims uploaded custom versions of the default faces in the Japanese, Korean, and Chinese installs of the game
I understand what you're saying and we do need more. I'm not a face template collector so there are probably a lot more that I don't know about, it's a niche area of CC creating so it's hard to find people who do it. But here's some links for anyone who's looking for more variety
I agree with @creesims recs! I also think these by Pooklet are quite unique. Deedee has made them non default so you can have them together with Maxis' if you like, it adds variety if you let your game spawn townies, NPCs, etc. I agree that some sets out there are a bit same face-y, but no one's forcing you to download them ๐คท๐พโโ๏ธ
CC creators may not work for us, however they are creating for a diverse community. That should be reflected in the face templates.
Actually my point exactly was that many CC creators (including my(retired)self) are not creating for the community at all but for themselves. They are generously sharing a set of face templates they've probably made for their own game. You can of course dislike their CC, but you can't tell them what kind of CC they should be making instead.
also, are you guys aware that you can combine face templates from different sets? you do not have to use a full set by anyone.
i get the point that was being made here but at the same time literally every single person's game has same face syndrome to some extent. mixing and matching templates from different people is going to curb that.
yes, it's annoying having to pick and choose instead of just sticking a whole set in there and calling it a day but i feel like if you're going to criticize others for being too lazy to MAKE different faces, you can also be criticized for being too lazy to choose different faces (which arguably is easier and less time consuming that making them from scratch)
I get what you're saying, but I think the core point is the most important part of the initial posts. Like yes, of course CC makers can make whatever content they want, and that doesn't have to be inclusive content. Anyone downloading CC can get modular with how they use it, and that does create a more dynamic experience. However, I don't think that addresses the frustration about how the face template situation feels like an extension of racism that has been part of The Sims experience. The Sims franchise base games have ALWAYS catered toward white people so they've never had to ask for that same inclusion from CC (and if they did they would absolutely have it at least with regard to race. Not body type, and certainly not gender.). So when people are creating content continuously and still not being inclusive (or doing about as much as inclusion as EA did in 2002) that can feel really disappointing. I think this is so frustrating to me specifically because, tonally, it reads like CC operates the same way for everyone and it just doesn't. Playing the game as a POC always requires seven extra hoops to jump through, whether it's that you can't use most of the portraits in game for Black households cause they just weren't included in the base game, or it's wanting more than 10 hairstyles TS2 actually made that reflects our hair type. That dependency on cc isn't just the privilege of wanting a certain aesthetic. It's the desire to have even a similar amount of content that white simmers had when they bought the game twenty years ago. Even in the cc downloading space there's always some extra added weirdness. Just a few years ago people were begging cc creators to use brown/black sims on the occasion that they decided to make afro textured hair or braids. We still can't get away from the slave/master language in CC. The uglacies and the beautifying legacy challenges were blatantly featurist against the few POC-coded face templates that existed in the game. And when we talk about it, even when there are helpful suggestions in the comment, people can treat that desire for equality like entitlement. I get that you're saying 'do the work to make it the game that you want,' but I just feel like that skips over systemic issues and points the finger at the individual instead. Back to the templates: I also suggest Pooklet's Templates! Shoukeir has some I like as well. I also really enjoy Microscotch's face templates these days as they feel really different from each other.

Also, instead of being bitchy about the existing templates, how about you make your own? People make these usually for themselfs and love to share them, which we are really greatful for. Just a bit of google can lead you to some really nice templates aswell.
Why do you guys always default to this when POC point out racist trends in the fandom? "Make your own stuff", "Just download from someone else", "I'm making this for myself"? The point of this discussion is not to demand people change their gameplay style, it's to make people ask why exactly do they play like this. Why their "ideal face templates" exclude any ethnic features. Why this is such a common trend in the fandom. This is a pattern of behavior people have been noticing for twenty years now. Your preferences do not exist in a vacuum separate from society.
