Can we just talk about how taylor swift takes her own fans to court for making merchandise on ETSY, sued her old guitar teacher for using her name on his website as if he didn’t give her everything she has, finds a problem in every single streaming site because she wants her fans to only be able to purchase her album - even when Apple agreed to fix the issue she had, yet she STILL hasn’t agreed to be apart of Apple Music, and talks passionately about issues pertaining to her but never about actual social justice issues. Yet the media and promotional team doll her up as some american sweetheart who loves her fans and is super sweet and generous. I don’t know about you but I am not here for that or for her AT ALL

Ok so this is ridiculous. If you’re going to try to tarnish someone’s reputation like that then please do your research.

1) No one was taken to court over this. People were contacted by her legal team being told to take the items down as the lyrics used were trademarked so selling the items for profit would be illegal. Beyonce’s lawyers have done the same thing in the past.

2) No, he hasn’t been sued. And he didn’t just use her name on the website, he called his website ‘ITaughtTaylorSwift.com’. The Music Times puts it very well: “It's understandable that when a celebrity employs your services, you advertise it. That's why the bar down the street from your house has a signed photo of that one guy from Law & Order. They didn't rename the joint "Christopher Meloni's" however. That would most likely be illegal.”

3) Her criticism of streaming sites for music is because it completely rips off artists. Spotify artists ‘receive between just $0.006 and $0.0084 per song play’ (x) and that is no way to earn a living for emergent musicians. 

In her open letter to Apple she clearly states: “This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success.” and “Three months is a long time to go unpaid, and it is unfair to ask anyone to work for nothing. I say this with love, reverence, and admiration for everything else Apple has done. I hope that soon I can join them in the progression towards a streaming model that seems fair to those who create this music.” 

Since they changed their policy, she has said “After the events of this week, I've decided to put 1989 on Apple Music...and happily so.”

taylorswift, through her music and her personality, has and continues to help me battle anxiety and depression. I saw her live for the first time in Hyde Park last week and it was the most inspiring experience ever (I was near the back, waving lots). Her reputation as ‘super sweet and generous’ is completely deserved.
