Hi my name is Emrys and I'm 22 years old and I am making this as a long overdue callout for warriors wikia admin, SnowedLightning otherwise known as Jayce.
This deals heavily with child grooming and is a genuinely uncomfortable read but I feel like I cannot continue to ignore this any further. To do so would be irresponsible of me, and could potentially endanger other children and I as an adult feel like I have a responsibility to do something about this, even though this is years after the fact.
When I was around 11 or 12, I joined the Warriors Wikia. I had lied about my age but it was VERY apparent that I was not the age I claimed to be (like to the point that it was an open secret kind of thing- I just had never come out and admitted I was under 13 so no one had solid proof). It was here that I befriended SnowedLightning, or Jayce. When I turned 13 (aka the age the Wikia required you to be in order to make an account), I came clean about my age. Jayce is about 6 and a half to 7 years older than I am.
We became close friends, I had them on Facebook and Snapchat and at the time, Tumblr and Skype as well. At that time, I had been dating someone around my age and Jayce had always been like a bit too invested in our relationship- perhaps just as a relic of 2014, but Jayce gave my then partner and I a ship name and talked a fair amount in groupchats about how cute our relationship was. I cannot stress enough that we were both 14-15.
Sometime thereafter, I broke up with my partner and Jayce, who was around 21 or 22 at the time, became even closer to me; asking how my school was going, complimenting me, and although I no longer have access to those chat logs, there was a noticable difference about how they went about these things. So much so that my ex, who I was still friends with, made a comment on it a time or two.
Around this time, I began getting flirtatious anonymous messages on Tumblr. I, as a teenager who did not know any better, was kind of excited to get them. I had never really had a secret admirer before and I had liked the attention, so I engaged with the anonymous asks I got.
The anonymous person confessed they were a friend of mine, but that they were too shy to say anything.
I don't remember how, but I remember that Jayce had eventually confirmed just before Christmas that they were indeed the sender of these anonymous asks and they then confessed that they had a crush on me, saying that I was so smart and adorable.
I was 14. Jayce is 6 to 7 years older than me, and so they would have been 20 to 21 at this time.
I had mentioned this to my ex who was the one to point out the age gap was kind of extreme. I was, after all, a freshman in high school which was a fact Jayce KNEW because I had to have a conversation with the entire Wikia about having lied about my age.
So I turned Jayce down, with the encouragement of my ex, and they claimed to understand and that was that and we remained friends although we quickly drifted apart soon after.
However this is not the end of my interactions with Jayce.
Again, I was friends with them on social media and so on occasion Jayce would message me to talk about something and would at multiple points in time bring up something I did when I was 13 or 14, and would usually make sure to mention how "adorable" I was as a child. One memory that stands out to me the most is that in one conversation, Jayce specifically referenced the open secret about 12 year old me pretending to be 17 saying "I remember when you were an adorable COPPA violating kid Cx" or something along those lines, in reference to me turning either 19 or 20.
It makes me HIGHLY uncomfortable that someone who tried to date a 14 year old at 20/21 was still fixating on something I did at the age of twelve, more than 7 or 8 years after the fact.
It makes me highly uncomfortable that Jayce is still in such a large position of power over children online. Warriors is a CHILDREN'S SERIES, it is written with like MIDDLE SCHOOLERS in mind, and I have stayed silent on this for far, far too long.
If we, as a fan base, can hold people like Drakinator responsible, I feel like Jayce should be held responsible as well. I should have said something sooner, when I realized that this was inappropriate and grooming but I didn't. But I am saying something NOW and the thing I am saying is that Jayce should not be allowed to keep their position in the Warriors fanbase. Almost everyone in this fandom uses the Warriors Wikia for something, and Jayce practically runs that website and frankly I do not care if this is not repeat behavior- the fact that this happened AT ALL is one time too many.
I, at 22, would never think "wow this 14 year old child is the person I want to date" and it is highly uncomfortable to know that this person is still able to have access to children literally whenever.
I feel like if Moonkitti can make a video to highlight some problematic behavior from a member of the Warriors Wikia which caused their position to be revoked, then I have a responsibility to do the same.
