I swear, queer history ought to be mandatory teaching or something...
a) The A stands for Ally. I know! I know! A few years ago a lot of aspec people posted angry tweets online about the A needing to be for ace but it’s not.
You see, Ally wasn’t really a term for allies. Ally is primarily a safe term for queer people who are closeted, that way they can actually be a part of the queer community without outing themselves. “But this means cishets can-” Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! I know! But think of it the same way we do with pronouns: If the only people posting their pronouns in their bio are trans/nb then it becomes an easy way for transphobes/nbphobes to seek out targets. But if everyone does it, then the people who actually need it are safe.
c) You are absolutely right! Being a part of the LGBTQ+ community is about your experiences regarding your gender/gender identity and/or your sexual orientation being different from what we’re taught the standard is. However, if you are both cisgender and heterosexual then this community isn’t really for you. You can be an ally- silent and supportive- but you are not an actual member of the queer community.
e) If you (speaking in a general sense) have a problem with the word “queer” I’m going to have to ask why. And if your answer is, “But queer is a slur!” put your phone down and go study actual queer history right now.
You see, queer is just as much a slur as the word boy; in that neither one of these words are derogatory in their actual establishment but both have been used in derogatory ways.
Even though cishets have used the word “queer” in a defamatory way, the queer community has reclaimed the word. That way it no longer has the power to inflict harm, we don’t have to recite the alphabet when talking about ourselves, we don’t give the implication that one group presides over the others, and we don’t have to fully out ourselves if we don’t want to.
Not only that but the whole, “queer is a slur” campaign was literally started by terfs. And as soon as it became a part of the lexicon amongst younger queers (who didn’t really know any better) suddenly the “drop the T” campaign started.
g) The Bi community calling out the continued biphobia and the transphobic/nbphobic history of the pan/omni/ply isn’t discourse. And controversial opinion 🙄 but if like 4/5 years ago when the whole, “We’re not like those filthy, shallow, sex-obsessed bi-sluts! We’re the only ones capable of truly loving someone and we’re the only ones willing and able to fuck trans people.” campaign that was used to launch pansexuality into the mainstream, if everyone had instead of using it as an opportunity to express their biphobia, actually pointed out that the “hearts not parts” campaign and all of that other nonsense was 1) disgustingly biphobic, transphobic, and nbphobic 2) insulting to everyone really and 3) only served to reaffirm queerphobic beliefs that we’re all a bunch of degenerates, maybe we wouldn’t have to combat the internalized biphobia of the “I’m not like other bisexuals” groups.
h) OP is definitely right about this one! MAPs, you pedos can all go to hell! So can all the nazis who tried to infiltrate as SS (yeah, don’t think we forgot about that)
