watermelon-david:
David pretended not to notice. Heâd let Daniel have his pride, he could tell Daniel was trying to avoid this outcome. That was okay with him. This was a step, he thought. Heâd listened to his campers about what Daniel had preached to them about, about the suppression and elimination of negative emotions. David had a whole talk with them about how emotions canât be classed into good or bad solely on what they were, just what they came from and how someone reacted to them.
Whatever Daniel was feeling, whatever was making him tear up like that, David was certain was something that Daniel would have classed as negative. But he was still letting himself feel it. And that was a step in the right direction. At least David thought so. Because again, David believed at his core that Daniel was a victim of the same doctrine he used to manipulate his campers. A victim of the same predator. No, Daniel wasnât an innocent man. But David believed he had the potential to be a good one.
He smiled softly, and didnât look at Daniel. âI have some books here, if you get bored.â David kept his gaze out the window, watching the campers mill about aimlessly on the last Saturday afternoon. âOr you could sleep some more when youâre done eating. Once youâre able to stand on your own, I have some clothes you could change into if you want. Or not, itâs up to you.â
Daniel let out a breath, silence falling on him. He remained where he was, slumped over slightly where he sat, his eyes diverted from David. He didnât care what he saw now, but that didnât mean he really wanted the attention. At least, not all the time. Especially now, heâd felt heâd said enough for almost a week. There were other things on his mind, such as what was going to happen with the others, but Daniel didnât entirely concern himself with that now. While he was confined to the bed, that was Davidâs problem. Heâd⊠probably be able to handle it better anyways.Â
ââŠIâll- Iâll see. Thanks,â Daniel responded, though didnât make a move. He wrapped his arms around himself, eyes lowering to the ground. He wasnât feeling all that tired, but he was pretty sure the pillow would change that. Plus, he didnât feel like doing much of anything, now. At least sleeping made time go faster.Â
David smiled softly at the gratitude, not that he needed it. He was just genuinely trying to help Daniel, despite what all had happened. He grabbed a book for himself and settled in, sighing softly. Just something to do while he was here.
âThe campers are all doing their own thing today,â he began, voice low. Not that he was trying to keep quiet, just that he figured he didnât need to put much effort into projecting, what he said had little consequence. âSo Iâll be staying in here, I think. Just in case you need something. There are a surprisingly large amounts of ways to get yourself hurt in this cabin, so just in case, Iâll just stay here if thatâs alright.â He looked up again, finally looking at Daniel again and smiled- it seemed that he spoke from personal experience about the troubles in the cabin.
âAnd if you need or want anything, just let me know, okay?â
