Roadhog cosplay
Final week/day
It's done!! Akon29 is a day away and i can finally wrap up my cosplay with some blue camo shorts and a 3d printed replica of roadhogs gun!!!
I bought this gun from a etsy maker named Senpai3D and u can buy the gun either painted or unpaited as well as other 3D printed items.
As of right now, I'm coating the gun and my other pieces in an acrylic paint gloss as a safety so paint doesn't wind up being chipped when i put the accessories down or even while holding them for too long.
This was a fun journey and i cant wait to showcase this cosplay on Saturday, 6-9-18 for Akon29!!!
The apocalypse is coming. Saturday @ Akon29!!!
Roadhog cosplay
Week:???
I lost track of time between finals and moving back home, but im mostly ready for akon!!!!!
I finished painting the shoes, but i still need to weather them and tbh, i also need to put a final gloss on all of the props so the paint won't chip away. With only 2 weeks left too! Other than that, this roadhog cosplay was pretty fun to make and I can't wait to show it off at Akon29.
This is a pretty unique edition to my cosplay rack.
A short tutorial on how to apply a beard for any cosplay. I use it for France and Scotland for example. It’s easy and cheap as well ^^ So here some details: 1. Apply eyeshadow as a base for the beard. Make sure the colour fits the hair and is not too vibrant. 2. Apply glue to the area. Make sure to only use glue that is safe for your skin. I used eyelash glue. 3. Apply the hair in the direction of the hair growth. I use leftovers from my wigs, but you can also get some online. For curly beards felt works just fine 4. Cut the hair down with some scissors and make sure not to cut yourself ♡
This beard can only be worn once but it will last all day with a strong glue. The method is quite messy though so don’t wear your full cosplay while applying it. And it might itch a bit (but it’s totally worth it)

Week 10!!!
Finally finished the hook and chain spool. Now im wrapping this cosplay up by making the shoes!!
Im not gonna lie, the shoes was an issue for me just because im a size 12 1/2 in women's shoes, (About 10 1/2-11 in men's), so i wasnt sure how i was gonna pull it off.
Thank god for good will because i found a decent looking men's shoe for about $12!!!! (The cheapest i ever had to pay for my size)
(*Note: Be sure to rub your shoes with alcohol to clean them before starting)
So, from the sheet of worbla, that i cut off when i cut out the shape of the hook, i used half of it and rolled out the horn shape. I also took and flat piece and made it stick to the Left foot as one whole piece.
With some leftover foam pieces i made the small armour plates for the bottom of the shoe as well as the two top parts for his Right foot
(*Note: I'm using contact glue to stick the foam pieces together so they REALLY stay on while im walking.)
This is what i have so far until the glue finishes drying.

Week 8-9
Guess who was so engrossed in cosplay, they forgot to take pictures while making it!🙃🙃🙃
But anyway, i bought some sport adhesive black wrap and wrapped it around the handle of the hook. I also bought a chain link to attach the chain to the hook.
I bought 10ft of a black plastic chain from amazon and painted it to look like weathered iron.
I also tried making the chain spool out of foam, modpodge, hot glue, and a toilet paper roll. I really wish i would've remembered to take pictures because idk if its clear as to what i did.
But im also in the process of paitning it so it's not completely done.
And finally i found a substitute for the tire that sits on roadhogs shoulder pad. I bought a circular floral base, cut it in half, hot glued the halves together then carved a tire shape out of it. I then sealed the entire thing with modpodge, painted it, then finally hot glued the piece onto the armour.
Its a really good thing its light because i didnt want to have to carry an actually tire on my shoulder.😰
Thankfully, im close to wrapping up this cosplay. All i need to do is paint the chain spool and finish the shoes!!!!

Week 7
With the final touches done on the armour, I began painting the hook with a metallic acrylic paint. I also made the letters stand out more by painting the letters black, but it looks just as good if you keep it silver. I also painted the rod silver to keep it blended in to with the hook. I'm most likely gonna wrap the handle with either grip tape or adherent wrap. (Whichever is gonna be cheaper at this point.)
Now, I didn't forget about the chain and chain spool. Since I have 8 weeks left to finish this cosplay, I'm about to make the chain spool and I a ordered black plastic chain that I can attach to the hook from amazon.
This is a little bit more money so feel free to not even use a chain for your cosplay.
Since I needed a hole in my hook and I don't have access to a drill or even anything to hold the prop down to do it my self, I decided to use a random piece of foam and hot glue it to the bottom. (I probably should have used the cement glue, but I was already using the glue gun for the armour wraps which is explained later.)
I used my dremmel to sand and drill a hole through the middle, heat sealed it, then covered it in mod podge for good measure. I'm most likely gonna use a second layer of lodge podge for safety then paint this part black to blend in with the chain.
Now for the armour!!!
I was done painting them, when I came up with an issue as to how to attach the armour without spending more money than needed. Especially since the wrist plate and elbow armour didn't really attach to clothing. I would have used some buckle straps, but I didn't want to risk putting them on too tightly and cutting circulation on those joints. Especially in the middle of a con during the summer.
So I wanted something that could stretch around my wrist, elbow, and shoulder area.
Thats when I realized I had some dark headbands to use!
I basically measeured each one out to fit each joint and worked from there.
The one I used for the wrist plate I folded in half then sewed it together to fit my wrist.
The other two I used as is. Measuring my joint, sewing at the mark, then sewing the remaining piece into the band again making a near perfect circle.
I then hot glued these pieces where I wanted the armour to fit and voila! I could finally put the armour on without having to deal with buying straps. Not to mention headbands are cheap!
So a huge update on the cosplay as I get to the point of finishing the armour and hook and begin working on the shoes, chain spool and chain!

Week 6
I began painting my cosplay this week as well as using the leftover worbla to make the nails in the hook.
I also forgot to put the bolts onto the base of the hook, so I took some foam and hot glued them on. I also hot glued the nails in too because I couldn't risk them falling off when they dried.
Finally I double coated the new parts with mod podge and it's now ready to be painted!
Total time: 4 hrs
At this point I think just the shoes and the chain is what's left of the cosplay since that's all I can afford

Week 5
So, I decided to seal all of my props with kwik seal to cover up all the obvious holes in them. I should've used the clear kind instead of the white, but I'm painting over it anyway so it didn't really matter.
I then covered the hook in black worbla that I ordered on Amazon.
After everything cooled down, I covered everything in 2 coats of mod podge(mixed with a bit of water).
Overall, after 9 hrs of work and burning myself twice with the heat gun(😖😖), I can now paint the armour.
*I haven't forgotten about the nails in the hook, I'm just waiting for some heat gloves*
Road hog cosplay
Week 4-5
I spent all of spring break (week 4) relaxing and getting ready for the next part of priming/painting the hook and armour. This is a small update because even though this is a female roadhog, I didn't want to make it all THAT feminine. (Personal preference of mine) so I order a roadhogs mask from a company I found on Ebay (Joy-Cos) and it came in today!!!
I like it just because it's large enough to fit most ppl and with me, it actaull has room to possible put a speaker or a voice changer in there!! (Still deciding whether or not to do it.) They have other prop masks too so I recommend checking them out!!

End of week 3:
I finished up carving the hook as well as the armour and this is the end product!
Hopefully when I sand the hook it'll turn out a bit better.
Total work time: 6 hrs
Roadhog Cosplay
Week 3:
I have sanded the hook to become smoother and I've actually made the armor out of pieces of foam. Using a Heat gun I bent the armour to the shape of my shoulder, elbow and wrist so they can fit better.
Roadhog week 1: Mistakes have been made!!!! I actually bought foam off of Amazon and didn't realize until after that it WASN'T Eva foam. I did rethink this through and tried finding a way to use this foam, but the brand isn't dense and does not keep it's shape. Thankfully, this foam was only $18 and I can use the remainder to actually make some of the other armour roadhog has like his shoulder plate. I ordered some actual Eva foam and hopefully it's exactly what I needed in the first place. Going into this project without knowing a lot is a learning experience on its own.😅
Roadhog Cosplay
Starting week 3:
I decied to gkue the pieces together using cement glue.
When it dried I drew lines to mark where the curves of the blade and the handle was going.
Cutting into 2 layers of the foam I made an indent and decided to glue the wooden stick (Dowell Rod) using gorilla glue. I thought gorilla glue was a good idea just because it expands and doesn't take as long as the cement glue does.
While waiting for the hook to dry, I decided to finish sanding the arm brace and smooth it out using a dremmel and a hand sander some more and make the bolts pop out a bit more.
Total work time: 6 hrs
The next step is carving!!!!!! I'm so nervous since I've made it this far.
Roadhog Cosplay
End week 2:
I bought some Eva foam boards on Amazon (about $22), and re did what I did in with the first foam I had.
I only used up 2 out of the 7 boards so I will most likely be making the armour as well. I actually managed to carve out the arm piece that roadhog has on his glove.
Over all after 4 hrs this is the end product!!!!
