The Scarlet Flame of the Living Beings

A headcanon of mine that I’m still fleshing out. But I wanted to show it to you, or at least share it, anyway. So, there will certainly be some further adjustments and refinements in the future.

But for the moment, this is the base.

I struggle so much every time I draw fire. That’s why it looks different every time I draw it, lol.

Why did I decide to make a fire-elementish character one of my favorites again? Oh right! Because he’s cool and I love that one specific ship with him and a spider!

I really didn't expect that a few people would actually be waiting for the fanfic to finally be uploaded and thus waiting for the AU.

I’m really sorry it’s taking so long with the ff. I didn't see this coming myself! QwQ

Is it reassuring if I say that Silken actually knows just as little as you guys do? They only received the description for the Artwork and saw the reference sheet for Nightmare’s appearance in the fanfic/AU first. Aside from that, the comm is completely spoiler-free and doesn't show any key plot elements. So, no spoilers even for Silken right now, too. Hahaha!

But I’m really glad that the comm sparked, or increased, your interest! Silken did a truly amazing job bringing it to life, I’m just as thrilled and absolutely love with the comm! And I’m really glad I snagged a slot and entrusted they with my idea!

Nightmare King Grimm and Radiance are Siblings

There are many parallels and hints in the game suggesting that the two are siblings (or connected in some way).

The first sentence can be understood in various ways. I interpret it to mean that the realm of dreams was ruled jointly, from Nkg and Radiance. And each of them had their own domain, yet perhaps they ruled together in some way?

And at some point, the realms were separated? The whys and wherefores? Everyone has their own theories about that. The most common headcanons I’ve often seen are that Nkg and Radiance fought, with Nightmare losing or that Radiance attacked her sibling. Or that nkg turned away from Radiance for various reasons. I won’t include my own hc here, that would go beyond the scope of this discussion, and right now we’re talking about the theory in more general terms.

But now, let’s turn to the parallels and similarities suggesting that these two gods are (or could be) siblings (or are connected in some other way).

The obvious point: both are gods of dreams.

The very title "Nightmare King Grimm" implies that his domain is nightmares, whereas the Radiance is often referred to as the "Forgotten Light" or the "Forgotten Goddess." However, given that the Dream Nail is a crucial element of the game and essential for ultimately defeating her (after all, we cannot enter her realm to fight her without it) along with numerous other hints, it is abundantly clear that she is the Goddess of Dreams.

Furthermore, both possess an additional element that is quite similar: fire and light/sun.

Not to mention the obvious dream essences. Red for nightmares and yellow/whitish for normal dreams.

Furthermore, we can only enter the Nightmare Realm by using the Dream Nail by the sleeping Grimm. This is similar to how we enter the Radiance's realm, though I am not entirely sure whether we are entering Hollow's dream or directly entering her realm in its entirety.

Besides, Seer apparently knows about the Nightmare Realm and the Heart. The poem is also create by her.

We know that the moths were created by the Radiance and while the game doesn't go into great detail about it, I assume not every moth was a Seer. This suggests to me that Seers are special, particularly regarding their knowledge and their connection to their creator, much like tribal shamans. After all, why would a Seer or a moth possess knowledge about another god unless there was some connection to their own deity?

I have tried to keep things very superficial and minimize my own thoughts as much as possible, otherwise, this post would become very looooooooooooooooooooooong.

I actually wanted to add something when reblogging the comm I got from Silken, but at the time, I struggled a bit with it, because I didn't know what I should say. So, a brief follow-up on that now.

You can view it as a spoiler-free cover for the fanfic, and also, to some extent, for the Darkside AU.

You can decide whether Nightmare watches from the shadows over Hornet and fixes his gaze on the viewer as a warning, or whether he fixes his gaze on Hornet while considering his next steps. Either interpretation would be correct in this case.

If I don't forget, I'll address that again after uploading the ff. To tell and explain more!

I’ve often talked to a buddy about a few headcanons, he even helped me flesh some of them out, and in the process, a few funny ideas actually came up that eventually turned into original characters.

Currently, only Bo has a real name. Betti is just derived from "Bets", the one you’ve actually already met here before. But I’ve changed his appearance a bit. And well, if you’ve been wondering who made this notebook… it might have been Artist-kin. The one who ruined his own page with ink....

A moment of Peace...

I love the Troupe AU from @silkenbride and I'm weak... I need to draw something...

And this idea has been floating around in my head for about 2-3 weeks now. So, after I finish my other Art projects, it was time to finally draw this! >w<

My idea behind the Artwork was simply to give her a moment of calm and peace. I don't think Hornet is usually bothered much by the rain, but perhaps she was out exploring the new kingdom where the troupe had set up the tents. She might have also needed some space away from the troupe, Grimm and the general situation. When the rain started, Hornet found this little shelter and decided to take a break, a chance to sort out her thoughts, switch off and find some peace. After all, we know rain can be soothing.

And, of course, I gave Hornet her fluffy Grimmkin companion. (I like this little guy!) I can easily imagine him tagging along with her quite often when he doesn't have other tasks to attend to.

But anyway, those are my thoughts on the artwork. If you want to know more, definitely check out Silken and their AU!

The Grimmkin - Headcanon

Ladies and gentlemen, I can finally present my headcanons for the Grimmkins!

Now that I’m finished, I realize I could have actually made this simpler. But the "past me" from three months ago thought it would be a cool idea to design it exactly the way it is now. And honestly, I didn't feel like redesigning everything after having put so much time into it.

It’s possible these headcanons might change in the future, but for now, these are the ones I’m working with.

where do grimm and hornet like to kiss each other (besides on the mouth obv)?

Let’s start with Hornet, she actually likes kissing him on the cheek or along his lower jaw. There is a practical aspect to this, too! When she is lying on him or wrapped in his wings, these spots are easier to reach without moving much. The neck would also be an accessible spot, but his fur collar makes reaching it a bit of a struggle. In truth, she would prefer to kiss his neck, but his fur offers enough of a consolation.

There is actually one spot on his body, though it isn't really about the spot itself, that Hornet likes to kiss. It is the symbolism behind it, the gesture and the intention, that makes her like it (if one can call it that). Kissing the place on his chest plate where his heart lies. She doesn't do it often, only at special moments, so the significance isn't lost.

However, all of this happens mostly in private. A simple kiss on the mouth is the only thing others will see from her.

Grimm, on the other hand, loves simply kissing her, anywhere at all. Of course, he still has a few favorite spots. In fact, it often depends on the situation they find themselves in.

When she is waking up or returning to the tents, he likes to kiss her forehead, as a greeting. On days when he is feeling particularly charming, he will take her hand and kiss the back of her fingers/back of the hand.

When they are in private, he likes kissing her neck and shoulder area. He might even start nibbling at those spots a little.

Even though Grimm loves kissing Hornet all over, he still prefers the places he knows she enjoys. And because he knows she likes it, he loves kissing her there, too. One of these spots is Hornet’s stomach, he realized quite quickly that this area is one of her sweet spots.

Actually, I need to add something after seeing the hashtags on a reblog. Ah, yes, I do read all of your hashtags, Guys! <3

There’s one thing I perhaps didn’t explain very well. Sometimes I just forget to describe things more clearly because… I always think I’ve made it clear enough. Oops, a problem I've often had with friends: I'd explain something to them and forget a few things that were necessary. Sorry. 〒▽〒

Any public displays of affection are confined to the tents. Outside the tents, neither of them shows any sign that they are a couple, anyone could easily mistake them for old friends. A tap on the shoulder or arm, grabbing an arm to stop the other person, resting a hand on a shoulder, all things friends might do.

To me, the tents aren't really a public space. Sure, the bugs come in for the shows or the Summoner enters the tents, but as long as strangers are around, there is no affection. The group knows that Hornet and Grimm are together, they are family and friends. I see a further difference between friends, family, and the general public or strangers.

It’s not as if Grimm greets Hornet with a kiss every time she returns, either. Usually, he welcomes her back with a variation of "Welcome back, Huntress" and a slight bow.

Small piece, big impact!

Okay, I have to say, the saying might sound deeper than it should, or that it goes in a direction that wasn't meant. And no, don't worry, Grimm did NOT have such thoughts. So the saying has many meanings, but not this background, that he became too tired of life.

A buddy told me a saying: "I asked Odin for a Valkyrie, he sent me a daughter." That’s where it originated, and then it was adapted for Grimmnet.

As for "existence", in this case, does that refer to his fate? The ritual? The Nightmare Realm? Being able to live a normal life again? Nightmare King Grimm? Well, take your choice.

In any case, he was looking for something and asking for something, but finding a beautiful flame, Hornet, in the end was not what Grimm had expected.
