Artist Statement
I have always been intrigued by street art and the vibrant colors that are used for many tags and murals. I wanted to capture these different mediums of art in the form of photography as if to freeze them in time. Graffiti pieces change constantly due to other artist painting over or the authorities having them painted over. I have always enjoyed architectural photography and I wanted to show present a different perspective on what we sometime would see as gang activity to a new light of art. One of the artist I am inspired by is Tim Davis and his vision of commercialism and the influence it has on our society. Instead of an invasion of consumer culture I feel like graffiti is a take over of inspiration from many artists simply looking for a platform to portray their creations. It has a rebellious tone to it and I want to capture that in my pictures. Us a small aperture I wanted to capture all of the beauty and detail in graffiti and how the location or type of medium can give a piece of artwork several meanings.
