If you see someone say they want to kill themselves or say they are going to.. DO NOT “LIKE” THAT POST.
Do not. Fucking. Like. That post.
I saw a loved one’s blog recently and I was absolutely disgusted that three people liked their post about wanting to end their life.
Suicide and depression aren’t trendy. It’s not something to build a community around. When people say that kind of shit, take it seriously. Discourage them. Tell them to stop and breathe. Don’t hit the “like” button because it’s relatable.
After a short series of suicidal posts, this person I care for did not say anything else on any of their social media profiles, and I know they do normally. I don’t live close to them anymore, so I didn’t know what was going on. I was freaking out, crying, worrying... That could have been it. They could have REALLY killed themselves. They disappeared, and I didn’t know what kind of disappearance that was. I was going crazy all day wondering what happened until I was able to get in touch with someone who knew what was going on.
And three people “liked” that.
Luckily, they are safe. However, they have been hospitalized since March 16th.
What if they did jump? What if they were dead? How much would you “like” that fucking post?
Get your fucking act together. Do NOT encourage someone feeling like death is their only option.
Tumblr has developed a huge culture around mental illness - accepting it as a truth we can’t fight. Accepting it like there’s nothing we can do about it. This is such a lie, and we need to see and spread the truth.
Stop your culture of mental illness. Stop encouraging yourself and others to feel this way. Creating a culture and community around this is keeping you stuck in your depression. Build a community of hope. Surround yourself with positivity, and spread it with everyone you know. Even if it feels fake - do it. It will become real if you are patient.
Please. If anyone sees this.. please think about what I’m saying. There absolutely needs to be a change in how our generation handles these issues.
And if you’re thinking about ending your life right now... Please don’t. I promise, things can get better. You can email me and I will be there to listen any time you are feeling alone: [email protected]
I don’t use tumblr anymore, so if you need someone, please email instead of PM here.
I used to run a blog for self injury called “We Will Quit Cutting”, and many people said talking to me one-on-one was helpful for them. I will love and accept you, I will not judge you. Whatever you say is just between us. And feel free to share my email with anyone else you think needs an anonymous friend.
Embody love. Spread love. Accept love.
