The most unpopular video online at the moment? Gillette's new short film "We Believe: The Best Men Can Be" that was published on YouTube few days ago, is now on everyone's mouth. Surprisingly, and I say surprisingly because I believe it delivers a good message, users' reactions were far from expressing approval. Maybe, like Hollywood' star Whoopi Goldberg said, the message it's simply, pay attention! Don't be a j***. Obviously, I don't like, when a corporation like Procter and Gamble that has been in the spotlight for its many scandals is trying to preach virtues to society, and one can legitimately think: do I need a shaving company to tell me that and to call me a j***? Perhaps, Gillette well thought of targeting a specific audience with this ad. What I know though, is that I found quite disturbing the point Piers Morgan and Peter Lloyd were trying to make yesterday morning on Good Morning Britain, on whether the advert is a new attack on men. I would also like to add that it is incontrovertible that a certain vision of masculinity characterised of all those aspects like virility, stoicism and all those things that always represented fixed attributes of a man, has predominated the media for years and influenced many aspects of our society. What if now we were really going towards a change?
What's your take on the matter?
