Why global warming won't be a 2020 issue

For some, dealing with the effects of climate change is a top priority. With the 2020 election underway, many voters are turning their focus away from other issues and looking for candidates that will help move us away from global destruction. Here is the problem: massive sums of money and a thick network of reeducation has been re-framing the voter's mindset. Some candidates have clued in and are making the environment a part of their platform. For example, Rep. Beto O’Rourke and Sen. Amy Klobuchar support in part Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal. However, they are up against a massive green monster that is nearly unbeatable. That monster: a nearly endless supply of climate denier cash. For decades lobbyists have been flooding the Capitol with anti-climate change capital. And it makes a massive impact on the people's view of the issue. 97% of actively publishing climate scientists believe that warming trends are likely due to human activities [1] and we still have to swim through an ocean of 'it's a hoax from China' bullshit. The lobbyists are winning too. As time marches on fewer Republicans think climate change is anything to shake a stick at. 69% of the GOP thinks the dangers of climate change is exaggerated. The Dem / Rep gap is only widening. [7] The Koch brother's, who have profited extremely well from the 'fucking over the planet' industry, have trillions of dollars to lose if we the people of earth decide to change our buying habits. As long as you've heard about climate change deniers, the Koch's have been paying people to market that denial. Nearly half a trillion dollars have been traced to Koch lobbying over the span of only a few years in the mid-2000s. [2] The result was an increase in government pullback on climate change issues. The E.P.A. identified Koch Industries in 2012 as the single biggest producer of toxic waste in the United States. [5] The brothers have more money than god and they plan on using a lot of it to manipulate voters, and that's what the authentic voters are up against. The brother's methods have infiltrated our society like the roots of an aspen tree. First, the Koch brothers create and/or fund super PACs (political action committees) with massive amounts of money that then lobby against things like carbon taxes. Second, the Koch brothers are funding research programs that sway their own political agenda. The Charles Koch Institute, for example, fund educational and research programs with a massive budget, $55 million in 2017 alone. [3] You can probably guess that none of that money is going into researching anything Charles Koch doesn't agree with. Their website is super creepy vague too with mission statements such as 'ideas that help people accomplish great things', with no actual description of what that 'idea' might be. [4] Third the Koch's have literally formed 'reeducation camps' to alter the political thinking of voters. If you are a climate denier, it's possible that many of your quick talking points were formulated by one of these 'think tanks' and filtered down the internet to right bias bloggers. Not only do The Americans for Prosperity have a super patriotic name, but they have also been the forefront of climate change opposition over the past decade. How to fight back against Trump's tariffs

While shopping yesterday I noticed that avocados are now up to $3.50 each. We had been warned that this might happen. In years past, when there has been a bad crop or extreme weather, I would buy bulk storage of items such as almonds, to hedge myself from high prices. But how am I supposed to store up avocados? Or steel or aluminum for that matter? Or high housing prices? We can thank Trump's tariffs on Mexican imports for the price rise in avocados. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, last year a pound of avocados crossing the U.S./Mexico border cost in the high $30s. Today, a pound will run you more than $60. [1] Other factors can affect prices such as the season, excessive heat or drought from climate change, or the change in supply and demand. [2] This time around analysts feel that this price rise is strongly linked to the policy change. At the end of March 2019 the price of avocados jumped 34%! That's the biggest jump that avocados have seen in more than a decade. [1] Well beyond the normal ebb and flows of a seasonal economy. You might be making some joke how this will only effect hipsters and their avocado toast. However, avocados are served at more than half of every U.S. restaurant and Mexico feeds about three-quarters of the U.S. consumption. California was hit with a heat wave last year that has slowed their growing season, reducing American supply leaving more heavy lifting on Mexico. This illustrates how we live in a world-wide economy, and not just an American one. In 2017, the average cost of avocado was $2.07. [2] The average American eats 5 per year. That means Trump's tariffs will cost America $2,385,773,363 collectively in 2019. (price hike X 5 avocados X 329,072,188 Americans) What you can do to stop it The U.S. Constitution grants the power to set tariffs to Congress. Congress then grants power to the President to use tariffs as a negotiation tool. [3] To stop Trump from tariffing the U.S. consumer into financial ruin, we need Congress to stop allowing him to do so. If you want to help slow or stop the rise of the cost of daily living due to tariffs we need to get Congress members that disagree with Trump's tariffs to stop giving him the power to do so. Send your representative a letter of opposition to tariffs. Even Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Tuesday with understatement, “There is not much support in my conference for tariffs, that’s for sure.” With the GOP also in disagreement to hurting the common American, even you might be able to make a difference. Will Universal Basic Income make you lazy?

Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang is pushing for a Universal Basic Income (UBI), or a kind if guaranteed 'floor' of income to every US adult citizen. Under his proposal, everyone gets $1,000 per month to spend in any way they see fit. No US citizen would then make less than $12,000 annually. The general idea is to help low-income people pay for important things that they might not be able to afford. Think health bills, education, child care, transportation to and from work, start-up expenses, etc. If people can receive a little help, more people will be able to focus on other things such as the pursuit of happiness or actually living their lives for a few hours a month. Yes, there are many people who work hard and struggle to get by every single day of the year. For those god fearing readers, let me remind you that the bible has many passages about helping out others. Proverbs 31:8-9, Proverbs 22:22-23, Proverbs 3:27-28, Proverbs 11:25, Deuteronomy 15:11, Ephesians 4:28, Exodus 17:12, Galatians 6:2, Hebrews 6:10, Hebrews 13:16, James 1:17 and John 15:12 to name a few. Obviously this has a lot of critics who scream 'socialism' and 'communism' without giving UBI much more thought.
