WIP Preview for a sonamy comic I’m working on!

I think Amy humanizes Sonic the most out of everyone in the cast

With just her presence it throws him completely off his game and he’s stuttering and frantic and it’s like he forgets he’s capable of destroying Gods

Often I see Sonic as Freedom with the power to back it up and Amy as Freedom without the power to fully express/ achieve her goals. But in the context of Love, Amy has more ‘Freedom’ which is why she’s able to overwhelm Sonic consistently and it’s why she’s able to wear it all on her sleeve when he doesn’t.

I also think they do this weird thing where they correctly equalize each other while still underplaying their own role in the other’s life.

I think a lot of this stuff is below the surface (especially for Sonic), Sonic and Amy aren’t super deep thinkers, they’re naturally aware of things and are both strong willed self motivated people.

I don’t think they’re fully aware of the hows and the whys and the greater realistic implications of their lives intertwining nor are they particularly interested in that stuff.

I think this stage of their relationship annoys/ frustrates some fans but I really love this era of unspoken understanding and loud uncertainty cut with rare scenes that perfectly encapsulates what their relationship really is.

This comic I’m working on kinda tries to bring some of these uncertain unspoken feelings into the light without putting too many words in these character’s mouths.

It’s what I’ll be focusing on until it’s done so please look forward to it! :D

Some more thoughts:

I think in Sonic's mind, he's never not seen himself as a regular guy, but every external experience sorta contradicts that- he's stronger than anyone he’s ever met, has powers no one else has, and has the will to not only survive manipulation & despair but also save others from it successfully

And Amy says, despite if he already knows it, despite all her loud admirations, she sees him as a regular guy too. Because she knows he needs to hear it.

And Sonic is deeply deeply touched. He isn't the type to seek external validation or support but it feels undeniably good to be seen and understood. But it's such a foreign feeling to him it rattles him just as much as it comforts him.

And Amy sees herself in Sonic here. In a lot of ways her internal compass is unmoved with the contradictions of the world around her which can be very isolating. So she finally sees someone like her in that regard and wants nothing more than to seek connection because she herself hates being alone.

I think Amy and Sonic both feel this specific type of loneliness since they’re both trail blazers but the difference is Amy fears loneliness while Sonic will shoulder it without complaint.

It’s a weakness but it’s also a driving factor for her and it’s (partly) why she chases him so much.
