this wasn’t how hyungwon had envisioned high school to be like, as cliché as that sounded. hyungwon never thought he’d be around someone he didn’t particularly like 24/7, but every class, there peter was. in their dorm room, in the dining hall—peter was everywhere he went. and it would have been great, if they got along, but (unfortunately) they didn’t. the extent of their relationship was them staying out of each other’s ways. it wasn’t ideal, but hyungwon decided, it was for the best. he already burned too many bridges.
in most of their classes, hyungwon had his cheek leaning against his palm, always a second away from dozing off. he only really paid attention in history and sometimes, drama class. and peter was always in the corner of his eye, whether he actually noticed he was there or not. more than once, hyungwon caught himself staring (and he prayed peter would never find out because getting confronted about the staring months ago was already embarrassing, but staring now when they don’t get along would be…ten times more embarrassing). always hunched over, hyungwon couldn’t help but think. and then wondered how peter back wasn’t constantly hurting.
at peter’s comment, hyungwon rolled his eyes but silently agreed because his luck was never good with things like these. his eyes followed the piece of paper and once the words on them registered, he heaved a sigh. ‘why couldn’t it be the scene where everybody’s falling into the ocean and drowning?’ hyungwon picked the paper up, narrowing his eyes at it before crumpling it up. ‘let’s just fail.’
[ ☆ ] that actually wasn’t an awful idea. at least, peter 100% would have been keener on doing the drowning scene as opposed to this one. ❛ or even the scene with the two where rose is like ‘i’ll never let go...’ then just drops jack, ❜ he half - joked, surprised with himself for engaging in any kind of teasing attitude with hyungwon. ❛ . . . it would have been fun dropping you in the ocean- ❜ he added, slightly less - than - half - joking.
watching the other male crumple the paper then declare they just fail, peter reached out, plucked the balled up project details out of hyungwon’s hands, and frowned. ❛ failure might be an option for you... but i plan on taking this easy hundred. ❜ as soon as he said it, he wanted to take it back. easy? it could have been an easy hundred if his partner weren’t an everyday reminder of something that could have been. ❛ we’re working together, so you can plan on getting the best grade. ❜
thankfully picking the movie and scene was the last thing they had on the agenda for class that day so they were free to do whatever now. unfortunately for hyungwon, working with peter on a project meant limited free time. even as others started getting up and dispersing once their teacher left, peter was whipping out a notebook and pen. turning to look at hyungwon, he decided to give the other first choice, ❛ rose or jack? ❜ this was the first time peter properly looked at his roommate in quite a while and he almost couldn’t stop his eyes from wandering. for a brief moment, he actually did examine the other, ❛ i think you’d be fine as either. ❜
