Because Brassmereâs royal family had always been chill, Matheusâ mom was a princess, but Matheusâ father was just a regular guy.
His mom is a renowned swordswoman, and as Queen, she still teaches swordfighting to the brassmerean youth, whereas Matheusâ father teaches sewing
His parents met because his father always saw his mom swordfighting in the field with her instructor, and was simply enthralled by her.
Even though their first real encounter was her holding a sword to his neck, he had the very valid reaction of âmarry me pleaseâ.
He hadnât done anything to warrant her doing this, by the way. She was just too awkward to approach him normally and didnât know how to say hi đ
I was thinking about the tech situation in Wickedâs Oz. Here are my findings and my ideas:
They have:
- lamps with switches
- wall mounted lites that I assume have toggles
- PA systems with near perfect sound quality
- microphones with cords, so I assume itâs being plugged into something.
there arenât any ceiling lights even in Shiz, from what I noticed. They still heavily depend on daylight and, as mentioned, smaller wall mounted lights and handheld lanternsâbecause they donât have flashlights either.
And even with the bigger light fixtures in the wizardâs inventing space, thereâs still:
- lamps on poles along the banister
- wall mounted lamps
- large windows to let natural light in
There were only a few light fixtures that were very big, but the fact that there were only a few of them more leans into the wizard passively building them, if that makes sense. Not a light source he depends on.
Oz doesnât have smartphones, obviously.
they use drawings throughout the Shiz Gazetteâand yes, I paused the film to look at the newspaper:
- the drawing of fiyero
- the drawing in the right corner of the racehorse being interviewed
- a drawing of a kettle
- on the front of the newspaper thereâs a drawing of the ânew library opening at Shizâ
I imagine they do not have DSLR cameras.
My idea is that maybe they DO have Instant/Polaroid cameras.
But these cameras are only used for everyday photos of friends or gatherings or nature.
Most donât have the flash function, so theyâre ideally used during the day.
I think my âbasic Polaroidâ headcanon still fits the universe because instant cameras arenât high tech. They just produce a photo of the moment, even if itâs not insanely high quality, but I donât think âhigh qualityâ matters if instant cameras are mostly used for creative purposes rather than professional settings.
So a Polaroid camera doesnât seem too out of place compared to a DSLR camera. A DSLR would feel like âwaitâŠyou have DSLR cameras but you donât have flashlights???â
All in all, their tech is both antiquated AND modern. But it seems that the more modern tech is only for practical useâlike the basic lights, high quality PA system, and mics.
This adds nothing to the âloreâ but Matheus arrives at Shiz after classes have started.
Fiyero knows Matheus hates being behind, even if heâs an art major.
Heâs witnessed the meltdowns being behind on anything causes Matheus, so he brings him the rubrics for any mini activities/exercises he mightâve missed in class.
Also, Matheus only take 2-3 classes a semester. Even though he enjoys art, he wants to put full focus and effort into each assignment, and taking a full course load will divvy up his attention span too much. He is also more likely to experience burnout, which in turn causes him to simply finish assignments just to say heâs done them, but not because he liked or enjoyed them.
Less classes just means he can spend more time on what heâs working on rather than rushing to get it out the way so he can focus on what others deem more important.
The concept of Matheus nesting when he starts living in his dorm at Shiz.
For context, back in brassmere, him, fiyero, and some friends built his âcottageâ a year or two prior. The way brassmere is laid out, imagine the palace, and an open path leading to town square. There isnât a huge divide between the palace and the people. But somewhere between that, Matheus had his cottage/townhome built.
Anyway, back to the nesting. He was originally wary of moving to Shiz, only because he doesnât like being thrown into new environments with no quick way to get back to his âsafe zoneââhis home.
So prior to leaving, he does a rough sketch of where all his furniture is in his room, bathroom, etc. in the townhome.
When he gets to his room at Shiz, he instantly rearranges all the furniture so it is exactly like his home, and lights incense to give a familiar scent.
Going to a Gillikin Country (where Shiz is), is already a difficult transition for him. Heâs been here before on his many adventures with fiyero, but there was always the rule that he was going home after. Back to something familiar.
Which is why itâs so important for him to have his dorm room in a familiar layout. Itâs just to make that transition from brassmere to Shiz easier.
He even asks for a room with the walk in closet on the east side of the entrance to his room, and the door to the bathroom North of the entrance because he needs everything to a T.
And once his bed is placed, he will lay down and get out of bed the way he would to go to the bathroom to make sure it is in the correct spot.
Because it needs to feel so close to his home space that:
âIf I get up at night to use the bathroom, the path needs to be the exact same so I donât panic.â
Fiyero basically lives in Matheusâ dorm room, but because he doesnât need to nest to the extent that Matheus does, he basically lets Matheus organise his [fiyeroâs] items however he needs too.
Because fiyero frequently stays at Matheusâ cottage in brassmere though, Matheus has most likely already accounted for the placement of Fiyeroâs stuff in their shared space, because that adds to the familiarity.
Imagine if âdancing through lifeâ happened with these two clowns.
It doesnât matter how long Matheus has known fiyeroâin fact, Matheus couldâve given birth to fiyero himselfâand he still wouldâve flipped a table if fiyero was getting everyone involved in a school wide dance IN THE LIBRARY WHILE HE WAS TRYING TO STUDY
But what would make him flip a table isnât everyone dancing and singing.
Singing and dancing, he can handle. Heâs known fiyero since they were 6 years old, and has watched fiyero do five front flips back to back while bored. Heâs learned how to tune out his chaos.
No, what would push him over the edge is if fiyero started dancing on his notes/textbooks.
Fiyero, blessed fiyero, wouldâve gotten two textbooks and a size 22 sandal up his ass đ
The cake doesnât get eaten in this one || ft. wicked!matheus, Fiyero, Glinda, and Elphaba
Note: writing this was easier having art to go with it, honestly.
Matheus and fiyero had just returned to Shiz after a full day of celebrating the brassmerean princeâs birthday with the townsfolk and his family.
Matheus could tell by the way his lover was practically vibrating that something was up.
âWhatâs your problem?â Matheus tilted his head. Had fiyero not known him their whole lives, the tone wouldâve made him flinch, but he knew better than anyone that his prince didnât always mind his tone.
âNothing, just thinking,â he replied with a grin that was a bit too mischievous for Matheus liking. Matheus grunted in response and held Fiyeroâs hand as they walked to their shared dorm room.
Fiyeroâs vibrating felt like it was travelling all through Matheusâ arm and he clicked his tongue.
âFiyero, youâre shaking. I swear if you-â he started, but his words were cut open by his dorm room door flying open, revealing a round table, a shoddy cake, and a smiling Glinda and Elphabaâwho was wearing a lovely sweater heâd made her for her birthday.
âSURPRISE!â His lover, and the girls yelled. Matheus stood there in shock.
âIâŠIâŠâ he shook his head. Fiyero laughed and nudged Elphaba. âI think weâve broken him.â
âThank youâŠâ matheus said quietly and approached the table with the cake. Glinda clapped her hands excitedly.
âI knew this would fix your horrendable mood!â She exclaimed, earning a glare from Matheus.
âGlinda made the cake,â Elphaba said with a slightly fearful expression that was obvious to Matheus but missed by her blonde friend.
Fiyero shuddered, knowing that the perfectly layered icing on the cake probably hid a biohazard underneath.
Matheus cut the cake as if he were performing a surgery, and slowly lifted the slice.
Raw.
But not on the inside. On the outside. Somehow, Glinda Upland had gone against all odds and baked the inside of the cake and left the outside completely raw.
âGlinda, IâŠâ Matheus starts but sighs seeing her bright smile. he really couldnât stand the girl, and she wasnât a huge fan of him either, but he wasnât a cruel man.
âThank youâŠeven if this should count as an attempt on my life. Thank you.â He muttered. Whether she ignored the thinly veiled insult or completely missed it was unclear to Matheus as she squealed and hugged himâprobably the former. She had a sharp mind even if it needed a bit of prodding.
Elphaba bit her lip to conceal a laugh, and fiyero openly chuckled at Matheusâ moodified expression.
âWe have gifts as well,â Fiyero grinned, and brought out three boxes marked from each of them.
âYou should open mine first,â Glinda pipped up again. âI took a class on perfect gift wrapping!â
âIf only it had been cooking,â Matheus muttered under his breath as he opened the beautifully wrapped box. To his surprise, it was a set of fine tip paintbrushes, though with thick handles.
âDo you like them? I knew you couldnât hold the tiny brushes so I found ones with thick handles!â She said with a bright smile. Matheus looked at the brushes then at Glinda.
âThanks, Glinda. ReallyâŠâ he said kindly. Elphaba smiled behind him, partly because she knew theyâd be at each otherâs throats come sunrise.
Matheus reached for the next gift, which was from Elphaba. Inside was a hand made mug made of clay, shaped to look like his pet chicken, Qita.
âOh, OzâŠâ he murmured.
âYou can use it to hold your brushes,â Elphaba said with a smile. Matheus smiled faintly at her in response and took the brushes from Glinda and set them inside the mug.
Finally, it was fiyeroâs gift, which his lover practically shoved in his hands excitedly.
Matheus looked at fiyero, and opened the box. He half expected something deeply inappropriate, but was shocked to see a signant ring with their initials on it.
âFiyeroâŠâ Matheus whispered, and slipped it on his finger. It was perfect, and It wasnât too big that it felt uncomfortable.
âThereâs more in there,â fiyero said in a singsongy voice.
Matheus looked inside to find a locket with a tiny painting of us, a handmade sketchbook with mix media paper, and of course the very thing he expectedâa heart shaped cockring.
Matheus hugged fiyero tightly. âYouâre an idiot,â he murmured but kissed the side of his head.
âLetâs eat the cake now!â Glinda cheered. Elphaba, fiyero, and Matheus looked down at the inedible dessert.
âHmâŠIâd rather not end my birthday stuck in the bathroom,â Matheus drawled out, only to get a slice of cake shoved in his face. Matheus stood there in shock as a proud looking Glinda stood there with a now empty plate in her hand.
âYou-â Matheusâ insult was cut off by Glinda kicking off her heels and running out the door.
Matheus grabbed another slice of cake and chased her outside, partly letting her outrun him since he was much taller.
âGet back here, asshole!â He yelled.
Elphaba and fiyero grabbed the rest of the cake and ran after them.
The rest of the evening was spent throwing pieces of raw batter and icing at each other in the fields surrounding the school, eventually ending in the group sprawled out on the grass panting hard.
âNext year, I make the cake,â Elphaba said breathlessly, to which the others agreed.
note: writing the theatrical lines was harder than the rest of the fic đ
Despite knowing each other for as long as they have, Matheus is still shocked by how smitten he is with fiyero.
He was standing off to the side, watching his lover capture the attention of everyone in the room while doing his playful rendition of the main character in the school play. Yet despite all eyes being on Fiyero, Fiyeroâs gaze remained on his prince.
He winked at Matheus, which nearly made the other boy faint, even if heâd never admit it. Though he didnât need to admit to his ever growing crush on his own boyfriend, for the glowing gold markings that spanned across his body gave his true feelings away.
Fiyero noticed the way Matheusâ markings glowedâhe always did. He always noticed when his prince would glow before they even spokeâŠbefore Matheus even noticed he was even in the room, as if they were sentient enough to know his presence.
Matheus shook his head as the other students swooned over Fiyeroâs theatrical declaration of love for his co-starâs character. He wasnât jealous, of course. He couldnât blame them for lusting after his lover. Not when he looked so handsome with his stupid smile and tight trousers.
Matheusâ eyes trailed over fiyero as his back was turned to himâŠ
âYesâŠtight trousers, indeed.â He thought to himself.
He looked up again as fiyero continued his dramatic performance, though his lover had now turned towards him, as if directing the words towards Matheus instead.
âAnd though I am burned by the turmoil my foes drag me through, it is your voice that lifts me away from their talons that threaten to drag me to my demise.â Fiyero recites his lines as he approaches his prince. âI am truly moved by the mere sight of you, my love, and I could never define what you are to me, for I am a simple man,â
He stops in front of his prince, a little smirk spread across his face as his hand comes to rest against the wall beside Matheusâ head. The height difference was never an issue for Fiyero, not when he could still make the Titan Prince glow brighter than the sun that made him.
âOlĂ , camjora,â fiyero whispered in Matheusâ native tongue, looking up at his prince with mischief. âEnjoying the view, eh?â
Matheus scowled at him, but there was no hiding the faint glow radiating from his skin. âDonât you ever get tired of parading around?â He grumbled, earning a laugh from his lover.
âIâll give you a private show later on, princey~â fiyero whispered and pressed a tantalising kiss against Matheusâ throat. The students around them gasped and murmured as they witnessed the intimate moment.
Matheus briefly looked into his eyes, and nodded. Fiyero smirked again, lightly pinching his princeâs cheek before running off again.
Matheus walked in the opposite direction towards his private quarters on the university grounds, struggling to control his racing heart.
Matheus kept a sketchbook of drawings/paintings/etc. that ONLY FEATURE FIYERO AND THAT MAKES ME ILL
He has been making art in that book featuring fiyero since they were 6 years old.
You can see in the early drawings, in the shakiness of the lines, that Matheus struggled to hold the pencil but knew he wanted to capture fiyero doing a mundane task no matter how bad it looked.
The scribbles and the shittily written annotation on the side perfectly described âfiyero holding a bunnyâ in his little head.
And what makes me even sicker is that you can see fiyero growing throughout the sketchbook, BUT you can see Matheusâ skills improving too.
Especially since his main motivation for improvement was to capture fiyero living as best as possible.
Matheus changes the hard cover of the sketchbook so itâs easier to close even as he adds pages. Because, yes, he simply adds pages to the book instead of getting a new one.
As he got older, He specifically tailored the paper so it wouldnât bulk up the book when he used thicker mediums like paints, oil pastels, collage, or general junk journaling with fabric clippings from old clothes.
And yes, I said old clothes. Him and fiyero have been on some questionable adventures together. Many of which ended with a torn shirt or trousers. And Matheus kept clippings of those to commemorate those stupid adventures.
I have talked about Matheus convincing Fiyero to eat grass. But he has also gotten him to eat/lick:
- sand
- snow
- gravel
- hay
- napkin
- shredded watercolour paper
And at no point does fiyero cast judgement upon Matheus for initially suggesting that these things. He happily followed him to eat them without asking any questions.
Fiyero walked up to Matheus with his usual shit eating grin, making the brassmerean prince preemptively sigh knowing his partner would either say something incredibly foolish or sexual.
âOh, donât give me that, princey,â fiyero laughed, âI havenât even said anything yet.â
âSurprise me,â Matheus said blankly. Fiyero looked him up and down slowly, barely holding back another smile.
âYâknow, Mateo, I never noticed how delicious you look in that outfit,â fiyero said in a low purr.
âI am wearing the same thing I had on yesterday. Thatâs how uniforms work.â Matheus replied in a flat tone.
He wasnât going to give Fiyero more of reaction than that, the Vinkun prince knew that already, but he never grew tired of the brief flash of rage one could only pull from their best friend.
Note: I love Drabbles because I can start at any point in the non-existent story and end abruptly. I had this idea months ago so. This probably took place at Shiz. But in their main âstoryâ, Matheus does not wear the school uniform.
The flower is used for teas, medicinals, but also has a fuzzy looking part right under the petals that can be turned into flour for baking.
Brassmereans arenât wasteful so every part of the flower is usedâpetals, leaves/stem, the milky looking substance thatâs in the stem of most flowers (but in this flower itâs sweeter and tastes almost like cane sugar), that fuzzy looking thing I mentioned underneath, and even the pollen is used.
BUT the petals are also used to make golden-yellow paints, or used in their natural state for collage. The stems can also be weaved into baskets as they are sturdy enough, especially when tightly weaved together.
The signature gold markings that Brassmereans have on their skin are the same shade of yellow as the flowers. And those flowers always face the sun, so thatâs why Brassmereans are not only artisanal, but also people of the sun in folklore. Itâs a pretty contrast to Vinkuns (Fiyeroâs people) who have blue markings on their face as if they are people from the water.
Elphaba: you eat with this man, sleep with this man, go to class with this man, will probably die with this man, and piss with this manâthough that is more of a reflection on your collective lack of understanding for personal spaceâand you want to ask why I think you would know where he is?
Matheus: âŠ
Matheus: I donât actually like your tone
â
sheâs not exaggerating about them pissing together đ
Fiyero eating grass as a child makes sense. But what people donât know is that Matheus was not only was out there with him, but was the one WHO SUGGESTED THEY EAT GRASS
Fiyero: he ate it first
Elphaba: MatheusâŠateâŠgrassâŠ? The same boy who gets upset when his boxers arenât organised by colour?
Matheus: I DID NOT GET UPSET
Galinda: you refused to wear a pair of socks because the wind was blowing in a ânorthwesterly directionâ [mimicking his voice]
Boq: I just canât imagine you with your head in grass. Fiyero, yes, but you?
Fiyero: he 1000% ate grass with me
Matheus: I had a good reason [scowl] I wanted to understand the cattle
Elphaba: đ [walks away slowly because all her friends are morons]
Every few years, Matheus will be watching fiyero doing somethingâwhether it be dancing, brushing Feldspur, or painting (a recent hobby Fiyeroâs picked up because he likes making a mess and accidentally make something nice)âand itâs as if the knowledge that Fiyero is in his life makes him so emotional. Like, he actually cries and then gets frustrated with himself for crying over something âso dumbâ.
Itâs so random too. Like, âthis is my life long best friendâŠMY boyfriendâŠâ and he just breaks down. Mind you, fiyero could be in the middle of saying THE DUMBEST SHIT KNOWN TO MAN
Fiyero: yâknow, what does âkeep your eyes peeledâ imply? Why are we peeling our eyes? Is it keeping our eyelids open? Why canât it be âbrain peeledâ because itâs your brain that focuses?
Matheus: [about to cry because thatâs his best friend and he canât imagine a life without fiyero in it]
Matheus doesnât use his Prince status to get what he wants. he DOES, however, use it to get out of taking art history.
Only because he canât remember dates and just wants to get his hands messy.
Heâll look through books with art pieces, and buy art at Brassmerean festivals that inspires himâmostly to support artists in his community, but he doesnât enjoy lecture type classes.
If the teacher can mix lecture and hands-on, fine, but they donât do that at Shiz, so he finds a way to tiddle the system with âIâm from an artisan country, the hell do you mean I must take art history? WE ARE THE ART HISTORY!â
To Matheus, art history classes honour the same artists all the time. Even if the artists werenât all privileged/wealthy, he doesnât like something he and his people do as a comfort (and for trade yes, but especially as a comfort) being made into this elite sounding topic.
He loves creating and he loves seeing everyone create, so gentrifying it makes it feel dull.
And just to be clear, learning the history of art isnât what he believes gentrifies art, itâs how the content is presented by the professors. It creates this idea that âthis is what you need to create or itâs not artâ. And that is the opposite of what brassmere, and therefore Matheus, believes.
Also, he goes to Vinkus to buy from smaller artists too, especially the textile artists because he loves having fabrics of Fiyeroâs country so he has a piece of his dumbass boyfriend because heâs a nerd
The concept of Fiyero having better outdoorsman skills than Matheus.
Matheus stupidly agrees to try camping with his lover, but upon arrival, he realises just how much of a princess he isâor too much of an artist.
He leans back against a tree while watching fiyero set up their tent. And even when the tent is complete, he insists on sitting outside it while Fiyero chops wood for the fire.
Fiyero hardly notices the way Matheus shifts uncomfortably due to his sudden wave of arousal. He barely notices the way his princeâs golden eyes are blown wide with need. He certainly doesnât notice the way Matheus bites back a whimper seeing him slip his shirt off.
Matheus couldnât help himself. Seeing fiyero being soâŠresponsibleâŠwas such a turn on.
By nightfall, Matheus is definitely fully hard just from the amount of spoiling heâs receiving from fiyeroâa prepped tent, a lit fire, and cuddling.
Itâs only then that heâd notice the way Matheus leans into each touch, or the way his breathing quickened whenever his eyes landed on his crotchâŠ
Itâs safe to say these two are more than happy theyâre the only ones in the woods tonight.
