he had to jump in the ballpit to cool off after getting all airplane ears over a treat puzzle that proved a little too advanced

he's done this a few times now. the ball pit actively soothes him when he gets mad over puzzles. i could learn something from this

In Vol 1, Jamie Campbell Bower’s performance was an absolute masterclass in psychological melancholy. And it’s a literal fact because Jamie himself officially confirmed in interviews that the "Mr. Whatsit" persona and the house were entirely built on this tragic foundation.

When we see him as Mr. Whatsit, yes, on the surface, it’s a clever facade—a friendly children's book character he uses as bait to lure kids in. But there is a much deeper layer to this choice.

When we see him as Mr. Whatsit, it isn’t just a random disguise to manipulate people. Jamie stated that this was Henry’s desperate, distorted attempt at an identity—the person he wanted to be before Brenner and the Mind Flayer hollowed him out. His conscious brain can no longer remember Patty or his lost humanity, but his soul remembers. That was the life he subconsciously wanted to live with Patty.

The contrast between how we see him as Mr. Whatsit vs. how we see him as Vecna is heartbreaking. As Vecna, he is pure, unfiltered rage, a monster consumed by the Flayer. But as Mr. Whatsit, in that house, there is this eerie, empty melancholy in Jamie’s eyes. He is chasing the ghost of a peace he can no longer name. His subconscious repressed good side was literally breaking through the Vecna armor, even if Henry himself didn't fully comprehend why he was drawn to that specific imagery.
