STARTER FOR: @westerosei
LOCATION: Renly’s quarters in King’s Landing, evening after the luncheon
As partial as Renly was to busy days full of festivities, there was something to be said of a quiet evening. There would be enough activity to keep him occupied, but there were only a few things, in his mind, that made the journey to King’s Landing a worthwhile endeavour.
Of course the company he had planned to keep was among the highest on that list, something he anticipated eagerly. When the knock at his door finally came, Renly glanced up from the cards laid out before him on the table, a smile spread across his face. “I was beginning to wonder what might be taking you so long,” he teased, warm. And then, with note of greater sincerity: “…Come here. I’ve missed you.”
Loras had never liked King’s Landing. The city was too loud, too busy for his taste, with nary a place to escape that felt welcoming to him. While Loras was charming, personable, even, he truly hated the court proceedings that accompanied his arrival to the capital. He played nice, behaved, acted according to his station, but the entire time, he’d been waiting for an opportunity to escape. Loras adored his family, truly, he did, but there was one person that had driven him forward on the journey there, one reason to truly be in King’s Landing, and it was not obligations to his House -- why would he care about a royal wedding, especially when he hoped to see the boy-king unthroned in the near future.
That one person was waiting for him, undoubtedly, and after making excuse after excuse, Loras finally -- finally! -- freed himself from the prison that was the Red Keep’s banquet hall, winding his way through hall after hall until he found what he’d been looking for. Rapping his knuckles against the door, Loras stepped inside without delay, eager to see Renly once again - it had been far too long since they’d last met. “You know what these people are like,” he replied, rolling his eyes fondly as he closed the door behind him - this evening was for the two of them, not for any onlookers who happen to wander down the correct hall. Turning back to Renly was like seeing a night’s sky filled with stars after months of heavy rains. Like experiencing sunlight after months of only flickering candles to light your way. He was so beautiful. “I have missed you more than anything...” he murmured, crossing the room to Renly, eyes meeting eyes. Loras could stare at him for years and never grow bored. He supposed that the Baratheons got exactly what they’d wished for when Loras’ own House sent him to squire for Renly nearly two decades prior - undying loyalty in its purest form. Love. Loras would be a fool to not admit that to himself. It was love.
