Jacee was actually stunned by the female, there was no snarky remark she could come up with to offend the female and she was sure she didn’t want to. “Well you are doing one hell of a job.” She complimented the brunette before hopping up into the seat next to her. “I’m being very nice which I think should result in you spending money on me – meaning you should buy me alcohol.”

“thank you,” she flashed the other a wide smile, her shoulders perking up at the compliment. charlie was more than happy to accept it, seeing as how that’s how she planned her evening to go. her eyes focused on the female as she moved a seat closer, a small smirk settling on her lips at the other’s closing comment. “sure, why not? i’m feeling generous tonight. what do you prefer?”

“evidently not, which is very unfortunate. but, y’know, everyone is at this fuckin’ party, so what else am i going to do?” he laughed, bringing the glass back up to his lips and taking another sip. “well, i’m impressed, and i think my opinion matters the most.”

“i don’t know, what do you usually do when you’re being a loner?” she tilted her head, tugging her lesser lip momentarily, a habit she’d been trying to break. “and what makes you think your opinion should matter to me?” she mused, sitting up a bit straighter in her seat, a small grin placed on her lips.

“Sounds like that was a trip. You probably scared the living daylights out of the poor soul. Sure it was priceless to see though.” he responded. “Not the best choice for going out to something like this. Sometimes it’s better to stay home than go if you don’t have anything to wear.” Isaac took another sip of his drink, looking over the other at the comment. “I can tell. That dress looks nothing less than a few hundred. Quite a bit more if it’s handmade– which seems like a possibility with the quality.”

“i’m pretty sure i actually convinced her to move to canada. doing us all a favor if you ask me,” she shrugged a single shoulder. “i am so glad you feel the same. i’d rather sit inside in my pajamas than go out and embarrass myself looking like that.” charlie shuddered at the thought for dramatic effect before raising her glass to her lips again in sync with the man. “it wasn’t handmade, but it was custom fit and i had a few of the embellishments added. thank you for noticing. it’s so hard to find a man these days that appreciates fashion.”

“Could you please be more careful with those? They’re expensive,” Carolina spoke to the taxi driver who was taking her luggage out of the car, her arms folding together across her chest. Even though she’s been away for three months due to competing in Grand Prix Final in Barcelona, she was eager to get back in the rink as soon as possible. Sure, being home brought some kind of satisfaction since she wouldn’t be sleeping at hotels anymore, but that didn’t mean she had any time off if she wanted to be the best figure skater in the country. Turning her head around as she felt someone from behind, her piercing blue eyes simply scanned down the person without any kind of reaction written on her face before she returned her attention back to the taxi driver. “Y’know, if I knew this would be such a problem I would’ve carried those out myself,” she snapped a little, her annoyance growing with each second.

the taxi pulling up outside the front entrance of the estate as Charlie was preparing to go into town — for no reason in particular, simply to escape the house — immediately sparked her entrance. she watched in curiosity as a blonde head stepped from the cab placed on a figure similar to her own, only more athletic, immediately recognizing the similarities. trotting down the stairs, she couldn’t help the stiffled laugh that pushed past her teeth at her sister’s snarky comment to the driver; she had to admit that it sounded like something she would say herself. she tossed one side of her hair over her shoulder as the younger turned to face her, simply perking an eyebrow at her inspection before she turned away. crossing her arms over her chest, charlie assumed her notorious defensive stance with her shoulders back and chin held high. “wow charlie, it’s great to see you,” she mocked an impression of the other blonde, ignoring her comments to the driver. “charlie, you look fantastic!” she continued with faked enthusiasm before her voice changed to it’s normal cadance. “welcome home, sis,” she added a sarcastic emphasis on her last syllable.

“What am I doing here?” CJ asked, raising his eyebrows at the person next to him. “I don’t know, what are you doing here?” He asked them back, crossing his arms over his chest, observing the other’s outfit for the event happening here in Brighton. “Am I not allowed to be here? ‘Cause, I didn’t exactly get a invitation but no one told me not to come. Pretty sure this is an everyone thing.”

she raised an eyebrow at the male’s defensive stance, her lips pursing as she allowed her hands to fall rest on her knee, which was crossed over the other. she peered at him through her lashes, aggravation burning in the back of her mind. “i didn’t expect to see you, CJ. you can take the fucking stick out of your ass, it was a genuine question,” she barked at him in the same tone he’d delivered to her. “sorry for asking.”

Benji leaned over the bar, beckoning the bartender to serve him yet another drink. The only way he would get through the rest of this night was with the help of alcohol. He had never been one for extravagant events, especially ones that centered around holidays he couldn’t stand. It was just a reminder of everything he didn’t have. Once he heard someone speak to him, he turned his head to face the girl, shrugging his shoulders as he sipped on his drink. “No excuse. I don’t know why I came, but I put on the suit and felt like I had to,” he smiled, leaning back on the counter top. “Why did you come?”

“hm, so i can assume you have nothing better to do with your time?” she mused, a playful tone laced in her voice. she shrugged a shoulder as he returned the question, her eyes transferring from his expression to her glass once it made it’s arrival. raising it to her lips, she took a small sip before placing a napkin on the counter top and her glace upon it. “isn’t it obvious? i showed up to impress,” she flashed him a wide smile, a small laugh following though she was completely serious.

“You like watching the drunk people? Can’t blame you. They can be pretty entertaining.” Isaac couldn’t help but notice the way that she studied the outfits of the group that walked by. It’s what he’d been doing basically all night. “What?” he asked, laughing a little as he took a sip from his drink. “Not enjoying the matronly cotton skirt and kitten heels?” he mused, glancing to what the girl in the back of the group was wearing. “It’s always a plus, that’s for sure. Shit’s always too damn expensive for its own good.”

“absolutely. part of me likes to mess with them, too, when they aren’t extremely irritating. like, the really gullible ones, telling them that Trump is president or something ridiculous like that. priceless reactions,” she grinned at a memory of her statement, a random girl she’d met in a bar crying at the thought and declaring a civil war. “it’s not the best thing i’ve ever seen. you’d think these people walked out of either the 1950s or seventh grade,” she rolled her eyes, more to herself than the other. “tell me about it. just trying to have a good time and it’s not even possible without emptying a pocket or two — not that that’s a problem for me.”

Isaac had been to plenty of events like this. All throughout design school, more-so near the end and in the current year after he got out, getting himself more involved in the industry. It was kind of required in trying to get people to know his name. The fashion was usually wonderful– people trying to impress always tended to pull out their best to show off. And Isaac wouldn’t deny that he liked looking at it. He was nursing his drink at the bar, watching the people walk by, picking out his favorites and his least favorites. Honestly, his head was constently critiquing most every outfit he saw, as annoying as that got he couldn’t seem to shut it off. Especially not at places like these. He eyed the person next to him as she spoke, laughing lightly. “What? You don’t think these things are fun? I get amusement out of ‘em.”

she cocked an eyebrow as if to say ‘are you kidding?’, shaking her head. “it’s not that i don’t get amusement out of them, because it is quite entertaining watching people get so drunk they can’t stand up because the booze is free — but is it my idea of fun? not at all.” her head turned to watch a group of girls walk by, instinctually eyeing each of their outfits, a subconscious look of miniscule disgust crossing her face for a brief second before focusing her gaze on the male beside her again. “not that i’m complaining about the free booze. it is the biggest incentive to show up.”

Jacee stuck by herself most of the night, not really caring for the whole masquerade scene. She’d been at home since she showed up in Brighton and she was getting sick of it. No drama circulating around her, not getting enough attention - it was all too boring for her. Her brown orbs were currently locked onto her phone, well they were until she felt the presence before her. The girl gave the other a look before shrugging. “I just came here to look better than everyone else.”

once Charlie had approached the only thing that had caught her attention at the ball ( the bar ), she sat herself next to a girl who looked to be around the same age as she, her long brown hair flowing down her back. crossing one leg over the other, she ordered herself a glass of Chardonnay, turning slightly in her seat to face the other, a quiet laugh escaping at the other’s explanation. “they do say that great minds think alike.”

Charlie glanced around the room aimlessly, scanning faces both familiar and unknown; none of them catching her interest. she mentally questioned why she’d shown up to the overrated party they’d labeled a ‘ball,’ before the obvious answer made itself present: because she liked to dress up and hadn’t done so since she left New York. she used the event as an excuse to wear one of the more extensive items in her closet, the twinkle lights sparkling off the small sequins that were strategically placed down her gold gown. she tucked one side of her loose blonde curls behind her ear, her clutch in her other as she strode to the open bar, choosing not to take a seat and simply leaning on it instead. she cocked her head to the figure placed beside her, her words slower than their usual much too fast pace. “so, what’s your excuse for showing up? you can’t honestly tell me you wanted to come to this thing just for the fun of it.”

“doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. so what exactly is it that you do then?” nevaeh asks with a smile of her own, “i’ve never heard that, but i get what it means. i actually don’t care much for shopping – usually feels like to much work. i’d hire someone to do my shopping for me, but i’d be afraid that they’d grab the wrong stuff or something. really? you seem like the type of person who’d get along with pretty much everyone, but what do i know? nothing. couldn’t you tuck your hair into a hat to keep it from frizzing, or would that not work?”

“i edit fashion articles for this indie magazine in New York. it’s a small gig right now but i’m working my way up. it’s a hard ladder to climb,” she flashed a smile. talking about her job was something that she truly enjoyed, and if someone didn’t stop her, she’d go on all day. “shopping really is a task but i enjoy it. thank you! i’m glad you think so but that’s not always the case.. some people just get on my last nerve, you know?” she shrugged a shoulder, her lips pursing. “you could but after i fix my hair and make it look nice, i don’t want to hide it beneath a hat. — you seem like you get along with most people, as well, by the way.”

“so you purposely act rude because you believe the devil is somehow watching you and your choices? — what if i were to tell you that i don’t believe in the devil?” she cocked her head as he challenged him. she enjoyed challenging others, posing them with ( sometimes ridiculous ) questions simply to watch the way they think on their feet. watching others articulate was always an activity that charlie found interest in, she found that it revealed things about them that may not slip past otherwise. her grin widened at the sound of her name curled in the velvets of his voice. taking another step closer so that they were in dangerous proximity of one another, she tilted her chin up a small fraction to stabilize her gaze meeting his own. “nothing...” she faked the innocence in the one word, “just observing. trying to see why you’re so full of yourself. i think i’m beginning understand. it must be your looks,” she tugged the center of her lower lips, one hand reaching to delicately trace along one of the man’s swole arms before dropping to her side again.

“still as lovely as always,” he commented, offering a single nod of the head. he’d always loved the way the simple syllable ‘shar’ flowed, but a name meant nothing. “the one and only,” he replied, a grin spreading across his lips. he considered for a fleeting moment bringing up the ‘shakespeare’s butler’ controversy for the sake of prolonging the conversation, but figured the two had enough to catch up one without any shakespearean talk. although dante preferred big city life to anything involving small towns such as brighton, he’d made a pact for himself to follow: he’d always return every year around christmas, just for the sake of upholding tradition. “brighton never fails to disappoint when it comes to the sheer… sameness of it all, no matter how hard they try to change the town around. ah, i live there now,” he responded, nodding his head with raised eyebrows. the lifestyle he led in new york city – it was better than any lifestyle he could imagine living in a town as simple as brighton. “the lights make up the city around the holidays, don’t they? there’s nothing like new york in the winter. ah, what can i say? i’ve always been a stickler for tradition.”

“please,” she brushed off his flattery, her cheeks flushing a faint shade of read though she was sure it’d be hard to tell since the color was already applied to her features due to the temperature. though she received a handful of compliments throughout the day when she graced the public with her presence, they always had more effect on her coming from someone she knew rather than a stranger. a brief shiver was sent down her spine as a cool gust of wind washed over them both. nodding at his comment regarding the town, a quiet and short chuckle slipped past her lips. “at least you always know what to expect when you’re in for a visit, right? much better than going somewhere where the roads always change and you get lost on a the same path you’ve been driving since you could legally get behind the wheel... I know from experience,” she shook her head at the memory of her countless circles around LA the last time she was there. “you live there? so do i — i can’t believe we haven’t ran into each other!” the excitement lit her features again at the thought of the pair catching up both here and once they returned to the city. she’d always considered dante one of her closer friends. “they really do. it’s a sight that everyone should see once in their life. oh, i know. i do remember that about you.”

“oh i’m no expert. it’s just, you know, my career,” a smile crossed her lips, a joking tone in her voice. “shopping is my cardio, ever heard that? it’s partially literal when it comes to me. i get where you’re coming from. except i’m sort of hoping to avoid a few people, plus when i’m out in the moist weather for too long, my hair gets frizzy and trust me when i say you don’t want to witness that.”
