Temeraire sniffs and says, “This was not it,” again, very decidedly this time. “But perhaps it is a different list. Perhaps there is more than one?” He considers it carefully, then says, “Anyways. The god who is also an empress showed me, but it is not very useful to me anyways as I cannot very well use it.” He sits, ruff flattening with displeasure, before his gaze turns back to Ogata.

“You have a ‘holophone’ as well, yes? If anyone is violent towards you again, you may find me on this list and call me, and I will come and put a stop to it.”

“I don’t plan on being attacked in the woods again, but thanks,” Ogata says stiffly. He’s not too proud to have allies, but the thought of using the holophone in such a situation is a little daunting. On the other hand, the mental image of Temeraire trying to answer his call is nothing short of hilarious.

“Let me see if I understand it.” He takes the holophone out of his belt pouch and prods it experimentally, trying to remember which buttons Temeraire had pressed (or tried to press). The whole process isn’t as difficult as he expected, but then, he does have fingers.

It takes some searching, but he eventually finds Temeraire’s name on the list. Ogata had been somewhat at a loss as to what he had meant by call, but he sees now that there’s a call button clearly labelled on the screen.

“I just...press it?” he says aloud, more to himself than to Temeraire as he delicately taps the call button.
