Nadja Antipaxos Madonna Monstera

I don't know how long I've been working on this portrait of Lady Nadja Cravensworth, but it's been a treat to finish it whilst I binge on the new season of What We Do In The Shadows. I like to think that this piece is a portrait Laszlo commissioned of his good lady wife for his private study, as I was inspired by a portrait of Queen Victoria that Prince Albert had done for his office. I know that her Dolly is usually dressed in a miniature version of what Nadja wears, but I thought for an inverted Madonna and Child piece that it would be best to contrast their colours. I especially like turning Christmas red and green into something more sinister, and the exposed breast with blood dripping down her chest a macabre yet witty touch. Often the Madonna is painted pre or post feeding, so Nadja feasting was a nice twist on the tradition. Anyways, enjoy my dark darlings!
