sometimes this job is really isolating.
There are fewer than 500 central labor councils in the US and most of them don't have paid staff, especially a communications director.
sometimes this job is really isolating.
My weekend needs a weekend.
Alabama Shakes on Friday was so good. The show, friends, venue. Everything A++
I house / dog sat for Kim this weekend, she'll be back today so I'm leaving work around 4 to be there when she gets back.
Saturday I went to a bonfire at River's and it was super enoyable.
Sunday we had our first tenant union membership meeting and then I took a nap and then went to the Mule's friends and family party. Also fun! But I am just beyond tired.
I always have plenty to do at work but today I am sleepy enough that it's a challenge to stay motivated.
Just a little over a week until my big Kansas trip!
May I present...
Bare Minimum Monday
what if i want my life to be a long conversation with you. what then
awwww I just realized one friend I am excited to see because they are visiting town this week is someone I met on Tumblr like 15 years ago. i'll always love this weird little world we created!
After work yesterday, Rose and Derek and I went to the beach for a dip and a couple of hours of hanging out as the clouds rolled in. A heavy rainstorm chased off the wildfire smoke (and us).
So I moseyed up the street to the Mule for a beverage on the way home and it was Barfly drag night, so I shimmied with a couple of queens.
Then picked up some weed and went home to marathon Big Brother with Patrick.
Fell asleep with the window open and slept like a baby.
got our endorsements out today cus ballots are in mailboxes and the only comments we’re getting anywhere are about candidates we didn’t even endorse cus they’re not in our jurisdiction as a COUNTY. when i made it clear which were endorsements by the state council and then us as the county council lol
sometimes i cant help but be pissed off at people who don’t know any better because they don’t fucking listen or read when you give them the chance to. they just want to bitch. i shouldn’t be losing my mind about it this early into midterms, my god lol.
maybe it’s pms. ? lol oh boy
werk werk werk werk werk
This week my focus is on
City council's $20 minimum wage proposal (writing letters to the Council on behalf of labor and writing public comment for our President)
Pierce Transit's board vote yesterday to send a measure to the November ballot to (up taxes and) drastically expand service routes, times and provide low to no cost service for kids and seniors
Spreading the word of our endorsements, with the Aug 4th primary just around the corner and ballots coming out next week
Spreading the word on the streets initiative that's on the Aug 4 ballot
Sometimes I am not using all of my work time on politics, but this week is definitely on the heavy side.
sunday - alicia's birthday
my boss's wife turned 50 on sunday and they hosted a fun summer open house, complete with gin speakeasy bar in the garage and an assortment of yard games. everything was top notch and I love these people so much. glad to have each other in our corners.
We Need Gift Cards!
Hi my lovelies! We are in dire need for gift cards for my clients as kids are home for the summer eating all the food and back to school shopping is right around the corner. If you have the means to donate it is appreciated more than you know. My clients all are navigating many different challenges, including a lack of funds and resources to meet their basic needs and the needs of their children. I utilize resources I am aware of that can help fill some of the gaps, but often what is truly needed is money.
Here is our gift card registry. They prefer to shop at Walmart or Aldi as they are cheaper than Target, though we also have a Target registry.
You all have give so much over the last few years and I appreciate all of it. The need just never ends and unfortunately is being exacerbated by the current administration.
Saturday afternoon: Rose and Derek picked me up and we went out to his nephew's mom's house for some farm time and paddling in the middle of a little bay that she lives next to. We stopped at Winco and got some fruits and sandwiches and bevs, had a lovely little evening. For as rural as it was, an ice cream truck was a delightful surprise (especially for the nephew) and the adults were just as stoked as the kid.
Saturday morning: met up with my team at the school we're buying because the public employees were holding a shop steward training and the State labor council was launching a canvass using our space for training and the kickoff. Did some networking and photography!
