" okay, first of all, stop trying to move your wrist so i can actually take a look at it, " eddie sighs. admittedly, when he had first received the call from mike, he had come rushing, pretty much fearing the worst. " good news is it doesn't seem like it's anything serious, so no clinic or hospital necessary. let's get some ice on that wrist first, and then i'll get you set up with a compression bandage. i do not want you doing anything intense, so if your 'millions of things to do' involve anything that's going to fuck up your wrist more, think twice. " he pauses briefly. " how about you tell me how this even happened ? "
he was the type of person who moved around a lot , he was an antsy sort of individual. that was especially true when he was experiencing stressful situations such as this one. the last thing he needed was an injury that would impact his daily life. “ fine , ” he muttered. mike huffed petulantly , even if he followed the male's instructions and forced himself to remain still so he could examine his wrist. an involuntary laugh escaped his lips when eddie told him he didn't want him doing anything intense. “ i'm not exactly the picture of athletic prowess. it's not like i was planning on doing any sort of gymnastics. they involve reading , grocery shopping and writing. well , typing , but ... yeah. ” of course he just had to ask the most obvious question. “ i was staring at a cute g-... someone and i got distracted and tripped over my own feet. it was incredibly humiliating , so thanks for making me relive it. ”
Few phrases invoked the same pleasure as that—whatever you say. Not the sarcastic version, mind. But he would work with what he was given in any case! Releasing Nolan's shoulder, Cletus weaved through some of the late crowd and slunk along the back wall toward the exit. While he waited for them to follow, he hung lazy and unbothered—and most of all, totally inconspicuous. "All right, this is the big part," he started once they were in earshot, voice low. "You gotta be confident. Got it? Just walk out like you was always meant to." Drinking and dashing... a classic. "Don't stop for nobody. I'll meet ya on the outside." Giving him one last nudge, he disappeared back into the crowd to take his own path out.
nolan caught on pretty quickly to what the male was wanting him to do. he was no saint , he'd dined and dashed in the past , but it had been a long time. when he thought about it , the last time he had , was back when he was still human. technically , he was human again , but he still hadn't done anything so foolish in years. he was careful , blended in with the crowd when and where he could. dc was different , though. confidence was something he could sell. he had developed an inflated sense of ego of sorts over the years , so he had faith in his ability to confidently walk out of the building without concerning himself with paying. he just wouldn't make it a habit of it. he wasn't trying to get himself into any trouble or stand out. “ got it , ” he stated , nodding slightly before he took off in the direction of the exit , making it out of the building with ease.
“ oh , you never know … ” david let out a slight laugh , genuinely amused. if the familiar feeling meant anything , well , then that was something interesting to say the least. he was curious enough to pursue it further , even if only because he had nothing better to do. “ no , i'm flattered , ” he said with a charming smile , holding a hand to his chest. “ and to think , i was simply trying to be kind , ” he hummed. in reality , he wasn't going around offering people company out of the kindness of his heart ; david was merely humoring his own curiosity regarding the familar face. “ twenty four years ? ” he arched a brow. “ unless you just look amazing for your age , i take it that's your whole life ? ” he , of all people , should know not to base one's age on looks alone. “ i don't know about that , ” his response somewhat genuine. “ i may understand the ways of the past , but that doesn't mean i dislike the present , ” he pointed out. he wasn't a particular fan of the time he was born in , but becoming immortal allowed him to see years far past a human lifespan. ( he found himself somewhat fond of the 1980s , at least before his ultimate downfall. ) david contained a growing smirk as he watched michael , his michael. he could tell the cogs were turning in that beautiful head of his. “ i'm a great judge of character. quick , too , ” he claimed. “ and the city is only so big. it's only fair to assume we may cross paths again. ” his head lolled to the side , eyeing the male. “ tell me you won't try to avoid me , michael. ”
“ i think i've got a pretty good idea , though , ” he insisted. dc wasn't the most interesting place. while it was true some experiences had been a little bizarre , they weren't anything incredibly fascinating. michael squinted at the male , his head shaking in confusion. the guy was a little odd , but he could've just come from a strange town or something. “ i'm sure you'll find someone around here who would appreciate your so-called ... kindness. ” it just wouldn't be him. he would continue to take care of himself and his family because that was what he was supposed to do. “ yup , my whole life , ” he confirmed , nodding slightly. “ all twenty four years. ” he didn't really care for their conversation , he'd probably end up forgetting most of it anyways. it wasn't all that relevant. “ whatever , dude , ” he said , shrugging. “ like what you like ... understand what you understand. you can appreciate both , even if the present's probably better than the past at the end of the day. ” the world kept advancing , and he figured that was probably a good thing. he wasn't there to judge people for liking the past , either , though. “ if you say so , ” he stated. he wasn't sure if the guy was actually a good judge of character or not. michael didn't have the most favorable opinions of himself at times. he was still trying to search for answers , but his mind was working against him. there was a barrier there that seemed impossible to pass through. his arms folded across his chest , his guard still elevated. “ it's big enough to see someone once and likely never see them again , ” he argued. “ i don't think you've given me much of a reason to not avoid you. just saying. why should i want you around ? ”

“ hey , ” he greeted back , offering her a small smile. “ just walkin' in. thought i might be a nice friend and bring you a drink , ” he told her , holding up a to-go cup. “ you guys been busy today ? ”
or did he confuse himself. he had no idea anymore. this whole situation was confusing ❝ don't listen to me. i don't know what i am thinking right now. everything is confusing about this city. people coming from the past and probably the future, people forget their old life ❞ steve frowned. insanely evil ? why would he care about that ❝ what does it matter if they are? if they pretend to be me? ❞
mike blinked , a confused , somewhat concerned laugh escaping his lips. was this guy okay ? “ i'm sorry ... ” he began , shaking his head in disbelief. had the guy he was talking to lost his mind ? mike was beginning to think so. “ you said ... you said people are coming from the past and probably the future ? you know time travel is just science fiction ... right ? people are not time traveling to dc. i mean ... that's just ... that's just absurd. okay ? absolutely absurd. and you think they're becoming amnesiacs too ? have you hit your head recently or something man ? ” mike couldn't believe what he was hearing. “ well it probably wouldn't be a very good look for you if someone who had a similar face to yours went around committing crimes. yes , they could easily commit identity theft. ”
david smirked as he was called somewhat observant. “ you wouldn't believe the things i've seen , ” there was the smallest hint of humor in his tone , like he might be sarcastic. however , he seen more than any mere human could possibly live to know , nevermind all the supernatural elements. he smiled , feigning flattery. “ my heroic instincts ”? he arched a brow. was he truly a hero ? few would agree. however , david thought his usual methods , while questionable , were extremely effective when offering assistance. he caught the not from this place , a small clue that there may be something the male needed protection from after all. david would be keeping that in his back pocket. he hummed as he glanced around their environment. “ it only takes one bad night , ” he mused. david laughed at the series of questions , clearly amused. “ maybe i'm just an old soul , simply from another time , ” he offered with a dramatic wave of his hand. with his personal flair , perhaps being mistaken for an actor wasn't that much of a stretch. he had plenty of years worth of pretending , after all. david paused , watching the male. when he finally introduced himself , it was like a puzzle piece snapping into place. michael had no major reaction to david , his overall presence or his name. considering he was the one to deal the deathly blow , he clearly had no recollection of the vampire at all ; but david remembered all too well. “ michael , ” he repeated the name with a cadence that was potentially reserved only for this particular soul. “ i think i'm gonna like you … ”
“ well , that's great and all , but you're probably not gonna see anything interesting here , unfortunately , ” michael told the male , shrugging indifferently. dc was pretty uneventful. at least it was in michael's eyes. he didn't get out much , though. he was often too busy making sure he took care of his family. “ yeah. or , whatever you wanna call them , i guess. doesn't change anything for me. ” he didn't know why he was still standing around entertaining the guy. michael wanted to be home , not chatting with some stranger who liked lurking in the shadows and randomly popping out on unsuspecting people. one bad night. the words were a little strange to him , but he dismissed that thought. he decided it was just exhaustion sinking in that had him feeling the way that he currently did. “ i've lived here for twenty four years ... i'm pretty sure if something was going to happen , it'd have happened by now , ” he argued. michael rolled his eyes , a low scoff escaping his lips. “ let me guess ... you're just one of those people who swears they were born in the wrong generation. right ? ” he questioned , unimpressed. he'd heard that said plenty of times , and he always found it to be an incredibly annoying saying. michael inhaled sharply when the male spoke his name , an odd sense of familiarity mingled with dread blanketing itself over him. it was a bizarre experience to say the least. he found himself feeling more antsy the longer he stood there. michael stared at the male , brows furrowing slightly. he was attempting to solve a puzzle , but several pieces were missing. “ a bit premature for that kind of judgment , don't you think ? besides ... what makes you think we'll even see each other again after this ? ”
it felt like he was losing his mind. started to question everything he knew about home and washington dc. steve frowned, sighed and a brief second later moved up his hand to his face, rubbed his eyes ❝ i don't know. maybe ? maybe not ❞ what shall he himself believe in nowadays? ❝ damn, you are confusing me. good for you it hasn't. yep, i bet it would be. hope you never meet someone who looks like you. i get a bad feeling my face might be around here somewhere, would not surprise me ❞
mike wasn't sure what he'd said or done to confuse the guy. he thought he was being pretty clear in his words , but he supposed he could've been mistaken. “ not really sure how i'm confusing you , but sorry , i guess , ” he said , shrugging. “ yeah , i hope it doesn't happen to me , either. ” mike furrowed his brows , head canting slightly as he listened to the male speak. “ well , if someone else around here does have your face , i guess you should probably just hope they're not insanely evil or something , huh ? ” he knew that probably wasn't helping , but the words escaped before he could take the time to reconsider them.
his eyes narrowed. he wondered the exact same thing. why did the person in front of him look like him? it’s been enough he noticed he couldn’t leave washington dc. he worried about his mom. doesn’t matter how angry he was at her, but he still loved her despite everything she had done. she wasn’t okay, he knew that, it was just hard to handle it. he wasn’t there anymore for her and jules wasn’t here either. right now he needed jules, to talk to them about this and other things too ❝ i ask the same thing. i thought it was crazy we can’t seem to leave and go back home. this is really strange. what’s your name? i'm john logan ❞
michael was freaked out , but he knew he needed to try and keep his head on. if he freaked out , he wasn't going to get any closer to finding the answers he wanted to find. staring directly at someone who was essentially his clone was unsettling. he knew he didn't have a twin brother , so he wasn't sure what the explanation could really be. he shook his head , still trying to process what was happening. “ wait ... what ? ” he asked , perplexed. “ what do you mean you can't leave and go back home ? you're just ... stuck here ? ” he hadn't given leaving dc too much thought. he had a family to provide for , and while there were plenty of things he wanted to do and see for himself , he just didn't have the opportunity at the moment. “ okay , john logan ... i'm michael. michael emerson. ”
"If you want, I can get you some vervain for protection. I have a witch friend who sells it at her shop." Bonnie offered, hoping it would bring some ease to his paranoia. She gave her friend a smile and nodded, "I'm glad you had a good time. I don't even know where to begin." She crossed her arms in front of her. "I died twice after you left. Almost died a third time. I guess that's what happens when you overuse your magic."
“ yeah ? you could ? do you think i'll be needing it here ? just how many vampires are crawling around dc ? ” he questioned. did he even want to know the answer to that ? nolan was just hoping he didn't run into one specific vampire. his eyes widened at her words , an involuntary gasp escaping his lips. “ twice ? ” he asked , shocked. “ for what it's worth , i'm glad you didn't stay dead. are you using it more safely and responsibly now ? how many times can one person really defy death ? ”

will tilted his head to the side slightly. he felt so out of place himself , he wasn't sure he knew what normal was supposed to look like here anyways. for that reason , he couldn't say with any confidence that the other male looked out of place. he should know better than to judge on appearances , after all. “ guess it's a more common experience than i expected , ” he softly mused. “ it's a sad assumption you're not from here … so should i ask ? ” the question genuine , not knowing how to proceed. it'd feel weird to be outright explicit on the peculiarities of the situation , if they truly had the same experience. he nodded at the male's apology. he appreciated it , even if it was merely a nicety. “ you could say that , ” he forced a smile. he started to rub the back of his neck , his own cool hand making him catch the unconscious habit. his hand fell to his side , his posture stiffening. “ an easy life is rare , anyways , ” he tried to keep the conversation light. “ they say struggles build character , right ? ” he forced out a laugh. “ or that the bad times give all the good times that much more value … i believe that a bit more , honestly. ”
you're not from here. that told nolan what he needed to know. the guy was like him ... aware , and likely incredibly confused. that was good to know. the more people he found that were like him , the closer he hoped he'd get to an explanation. it wasn't like any of the brainwashed people in dc were going to be able to offer any assistance. “ let me guess ... ” nolan begin , tapping a finger thoughtfully to his chin before pointing at the other. “ you're from some small , quaint little town. you go to sleep one night , safe and sound in the bed you've known for years. then , you wake up the next morning and you're suddenly just ... here. in dc of all places with no idea how you got here. sound about right ? ” he asked. to someone who believed the lies , it'd sound like sheer insanity. not to him , though. he hummed lowly in agreement with the male. “ yeah , guess you're not wrong about that. who needs an easy life anyways ? ” nolan had an easy one until his asshole ex sunk his fangs into his neck and ruined his life forever. this was a new opportunity for him , though. he could live a fully human life. “ it at least builds a tolerance for handling difficult shit , i guess. ” nolan paused , mulling over the other's words. “ so you like to be optimistic ? ”
“ desperate ? ” david repeated the word in a way that sounded somewhere between a laugh and a scoff. it'd be a lie if he claimed he didn't take advantage of people's desperation. it usually helped him get what he wanted , be it a meal or just a little entertainment. “ oh , i hardly consider you the desperate type , ” he seemed to insist despite not knowing the guy , but he did know who he was reminded of. if the rumors he heard around town were true , well , he may start having suspicions. he'd have to keep testing that theory , and didn't david love pushing boundaries ? he held a hand over his heart , the same spot where his eternal life was possibly ended. “ oh , but one does not order a savior , ” he feigned some sort of hurt. “ a true savior appears when you need them most … ” he let out a dramatic exhale. “ but i take no offense. i was simply offering a companion for whatever journey you find yourself on , ” he claimed , pausing his movements. he went deathly still , if only for a moment. “ i'd hate for someone actually unsavory to try to bother you , ” he hummed. he raised his chin , considering his next move. “ if it makes you more comfortable , why don't i introduce myself ? ” he offered , carefully watching the male. “ i'm david. ”
“ desperate , ” michael reiterated. he inhaled sharply , his patience dwindling. who did this guy think he was sneaking up on people at night anyways ? didn't he know that it was inconsiderate ? well , looking at the guy , michael could surmise that he probably knew and just didn't have the capacity to care. “ well , at least you're somewhat observant. ” michael wondered if the guy just got his own amusement out of being somewhat unsettling. it wouldn't be all that surprising , he supposed. he rolled his eyes , a loud sigh escaping his lips as he listened to the other speak. “ well , i hate to disappoint you , but you should probably reassess those heroic instincts. you got the wrong guy. i don't need protection. not from this place. ” his nose scrunched up at the man's words , noting the fact that he spoke like he was a little bit ancient. however , he didn't panic. he decided the most logical explanation was that the guy was an actor who insisted on staying in-character even when the cameras weren't rolling. “ my journey is to my home. i can manage to get there on my own. i've done it plenty of other times without incident. ” michael shook his head , still confused by the guy. “ someone unsavory ? what are you ? an actor or something ? how much do they pay you to talk like you're from another century ago ? ” david. a generic enough name , yet it made the hairs on the nape of his neck stand up. why ? michael didn't know. “ david , ” he repeated , nodding slightly. “ well , i'm michael. ” why did he go and foolishly introduce himself ? he had no idea.
will started to chuckle , but it got caught in his throat. on appearances alone. a small reminder mike didn't actually know him. still , he caught on to plenty about will. “ a trustworthy face can be sinister , ” he argued. “ the worst evils come from the most unexpected places. ” he probably knew that better than most , but he wasn't about to list his personal examples. he had no idea how mike would react , after all ; believe him or think the artist was simply creative with his hypotheticals. “ and even if i am too kind for my own good , it just means i'm kind for everyone else's good , ” he tried to make the obvious flaw sound better. he blushed slightly. “ i … maybe , ” he admitted , clearly caught. “ i mean , you're a creative writer , right ? ” he tried to make the question sound geniune , like he didn't know for sure , despite the idea already being somewhat established during their conversation thus far. as natural it felt to talk to mike , will needed to be more careful. he didn't want to scare the other away ; having his best around with no memories was better than not having him around at all. “ i make no promises about how i sell myself , ” he said with a shake of his head. “ you haven't seen my stuff , ” it pained him to argue. “ so you don't know if im selling myself short anyways. ” his nose crinkled slightly. “ yeah ? ” he smiled slight as mike seemed to humor the idea of potential dragon art. “ i can work on the dragon … but if i did make you a vase , i'd at least be nice enough to offer you flowers to go with it … especially since the vase itself wouldn't be worth much anyways ., ” he joked ( mostly ). “ sometime ? " something hopeful in his tone. " you'd let me ? ”
“ yeah , of course it can. i've seen enough unsettling horror flicks to know that , ” he replied , laughing slightly. mike wasn't the biggest fan of horror films , but he'd watch them if that was what his friends were already watching. complaining never did him any favors anyways. “ you sound like you're speaking from experience , ” mike observed. he wouldn't press will on it , but he noted the fact that it seemed like the guy had been through a troubling ordeal. “ what about you , though ? ” mike questioned , confused. “ doesn't it hurt you to be kind to people who don't deserve it ? ” perhaps he was being a little invasive , but some strange part of his brain felt like he could talk to will about anything or ask him questions he wouldn't ask anyone else so boldly. will was easy to talk to. almost like he'd known him all his life. he chuckled , giving will a nod in response. “ yeah , i am a creative writer , ” he confirmed. “ i probably could come up with something better. ” will deserved something more clever. “ give me a little bit of time , i'll come up with something much better , ” he insisted. “ i get the sense that i'm pretty spot on about this , even if you're not gonna confirm it for me. ” he didn't know what it was about will that made him stand out , but it was difficult for mike to ignore the fact that he felt intrigued by the guy. “ maybe i haven't , but once again ... i'm pretty sure i'm right. you look like you're a talented person. ” mike laughed at will's words , gaze shifting to the ground in an attempt to conceal the heat that had suddenly flooded his cheeks. he took a second to try and compose himself before looking at will again. “ well , you'd definitely be the first guy to bring me flowers , ” he told him , another laugh escaping his lips. “ of course i'd let you. ” there was something about will that made it effortless for mike to trust him.
"Oh, I'm sorry about that. I don't have a very big family either." Genesis replied with a shrug. It was always just her and her dad. She had friends and the rest of her dad's Starfleet crew to keep her company, but no other family. "I was just curious, making conversation, but I wouldn't mind some recommendations if you know some good places to check out!"
“ oh , i mean ... i'm not really sorry about it for myself. i'm sorry if that's what you want for yourself , though. i imagine it must be really upsetting to want a large family and not have one. ” mike , however , happened to enjoy the quiet that came from a non - crowded household. “ oh , okay. well , there's plenty of places around here. what do you like to do ? i don't want to recommend something you wouldn't enjoy. ”
Arthur reached into his bag, and pulled out his old, leather notebook. He started scribbling down some words and notes. He always preferred working out on paper, rather than on any new technology. He listened to Mike as he wrote, "Interesting. Well, I'm glad you found your way to writing. We can always use more writers in the world." He said with a nod. "I'm certain you'll see your work published one day as well. I can see you work very hard, I'm sure your effort shows in your writing."
mike glanced in the male's direction again , slightly curious. “ that thing looks old , ” he commented , neglecting to filter himself. he was trying to be better about that , but sometimes , he just failed miserably. he smiled slightly at arthur's words , a nod of appreciation following. “ yeah , sometimes i feel like it's not appreciated nearly as much as it should be , ” he stated. “ that's the goal ... eventually. i guess i'm not in too much of a rush since i'm only twenty. i'm sure it'll feel pretty nice when it eventually does happen , though. ”
The glasses clinked and he downed the contents of his own in one quick gulp. If you couldn't celebrate the little things, what could you celebrate? Was he right, or was he right? Plunking his glass down, he pushed up quick and easy from his seat and set a grin upon this fast friend of his. "Well let's not keep that excitement of yours waitin', eh?" Cletus could even think of one or two good ideas to get them setting out on the right foot. "You an' me are gonna start with rule two, just 'cause we can. You'll see why that's important once we get to number one, don't you worry that pretty, little head a' yours." One hand on Nolan's back and the other shoving both empty glasses aside, her finished, "Just follow my lead."
out of the new people he'd met in his short time in dc , this guy was easily one of the most fascinating. he was curious to know how his mind operated , wondered if he was like that before his incident or if it was a side effect. he wasn't rude enough to ask , of course. he'd rather just be curious. he raised a brow at the male's words , a soft chuckle escaping his lips. “ okay , sure , whatever you say , ” he told him , shrugging. who was he to question the guys tactics ? while starting with rule number two seemed absolutely absurd to him , he'd keep his mouth shut and follow the male's lead. “ noted. i'll follow your lead , ” he told him , nodding slightly.
