I love this because everybody has a purpose. Sometimes we don’t know what it is, but you can look back and reflect on all the chain reactions and influences you have made in your own life and others’. If anything, I’m reminded that my experiences are building me for my calling. I’m going to make a difference in this world.
How to get yourself out once you've gotten yourself in.
I had a dream…that I had to drive over a pass where waves were beginning to crash over due to a storm. As I was driving over this pass a large wave took hold and drew me into the water with countless others and took us with the current. All I could think about was the condition of my car, then my own physical safety. I listen to others around me and and someone shouts, “Let it take you out. Once past the point out there you can swim it back in safely.” Suddenly, our vehicles turned from cars to planes. As the crowd of people stranded in the water are able to turn themselves and their planes around I overhear conversation nearby, “Wow! Everyone has very nice models here! No dirty names or ridiculous phrases. That’s how you know you’re surrounded by good, responsible people.” We were getting closer to the shore as we felt the tug and pull of the waves sucking in and out but we all grabbed hold of each other and helped each other closer to shore, baggage in tow….then my alarm woke me up.
So first I should explain that I dream of water and waves when I have anxiety and am overwhelmed with something in my life. I am grateful that I have not had any wave dreams for the last week as I feel by body knew I just needed to recover and get through the roughest times with as much “smooth sailing” as possible. Now I can think and process a bit more effectively as I’ve gained back a little more control of my emotions in the last couple days.
Let me break this dream down: First I sense a storm coming, see the chaos escalating in front of me, choose to move forward and “dive in”. Clearly there was something I felt I needed or wanted from that place, and got swept away by the current. In a place of panic, I was concerned for my vehicle (or what got/took me there), but followed the path that had been taken before and knew what I needed to do to save myself. I was surrounded, am surrounded, with good people that will help me out and although it’s a struggle and I need hands to hold on to as I paddle back, I at least see the shore and know I’ll be okay.
My "aha" moment: I believe my “vehicle” is my heart. It takes me into rough waters at times, but it also accompanies me to safety. My heart being a car initially showed how limited I was preceding the crash of the wave. Turning into a plane (although still unfunctional while in water) must be some indication of my heart’s ability to soar when in it’s best condition and state. Sight of the shore is the hope and certainty that, in time and with continued effort, I WILL get there.
Sometimes good intentions are painful but never cease to make you stronger.
The interesting point of this dream is that it was directly preceded by another dream in which a dear, long-term friend turned out not to be much of one at all. Whereas in this dream the people I didn’t know well, if at all, or only recently bonded with, where the ones that assisted me and were there when I needed rescuing. This juxtaposition reinforces my appreciation of those who are currently in my life and part of my “inner circle”. I’ve come a long way in finding friends and surrounding myself with those who are led faithfully by the Lord and know what it means to love others. They hold onto me when I think I’m sinking, lift me up and point out the shore. Thank you friends :)
This also reinforces the tattoo I plan to get on my foot! “My soul will rest in your embrace” entangled in a thrashing wave until it becomes a serene flow.

Last week at the close of the 20s/30s group I lead at church, I asked for group members to get outside their comfort zone and begin sharing their story at our meet ups so we could learn more about each other and the role God has and still is playing in our lives. Well last night, two brave souls stepped up to the plate and WOW did they share. It was a great reminder to never judge another because we all have our trials and tribulations. I am so proud of these two because their story I KNOW sparked something in each individual listening. So I ask, WHAT'S YOUR STORY? Think about it. Who were you before a significant turning point in your life and who are you now? And if you dare to stretch further, what's your WHY? You know, the reason you're doing what you're doing that you feel so painstakingly called to... KNOW YOUR STORY. You never know who's life you may impact by sharing it.
Truth.

WHY WAIT?! If you study and prep and plan too much because you want to begin the “right” way, you may never get started! Just go for it!
A bad habit may not always be bad.
I had a dream.... that included the family members closest to me that stress me out or make me angry. Family member #1 is only concerned with their schedule and how their time is impacted. Family member #2 voluntarily drops everything for the sake of others, yet makes others feel obligated to reciprocate and guilty when they can’t. And family member #3 goes with the flow whether they wish to or not and ends up getting walked all over.
What I have realized is that what I dislike about these family members are, in fact, things that I personally strive for or display myself: not feeling like I need to consider everyone else in each action I take; urging for others to reciprocate the attention and time I make for them knowing full-well it is not possible at times; and just not caring and giving up control.
My “aha” moment: the things that frustrate me most about my loved ones are things that I actually mirror. Why is it OK to beat them up for it, and not myself? And why should they be habits worth beating up over? Sometimes we need to be selfish, selfless or let go.
What if...the next time I am irked by someone, I think to myself what I love about their habit and find something to admire in it?
