I am out of words. This is actually genius!
Fridge looking so barren it's got me singing Sondheim💔
Thanks to this show, I now can not make a list without singing it
The bag that has the script
The paint as black as night
The pump that's for the tire
The cloak that's for the end
Into the store it's time to go, I hate to but I have to though.
Into the store to buy the things!
Into the store but avoid the people!
Into the store and outta the store and home to feed cats.
If I get rich in the future you will see me have:
The cow as white as milk
The cape as red as blood
The hair as yellow as corn
The slipper as pure as gold
“Let the moment go, don’t forget it for a moment though” is such a good line. Shame it’s about a woman cheating on her husband
Who up justifying they bean
Presently developing a conspiracy theory that Sondheim was wronged by a baker in his youth. He has three separate instances of baker characters who are the less interesting or less wanted love interest to one of the leads. Dot marries a baker but really wants to be with George, The Baker’s Wife cheats on him with a prince as her final act in life, and Ms. Lovett its not only bad at baking and spurned by Sweeney Todd but is also, you know, baking people into her bad pies.
I go into the woods
The way: clear
The light: good
I have: no fear (nor no one should)
The woods: just trees
The trees: just wood
I get out of the woods and home before dark
happy There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury day
Riddled with immense stress and anxiety yet again, but it’s okay, because I have depressing 3h musicals to watch and we all know that helps
I think about that fic so often where after fleeing and everyone else dyin', Lucinda becomes the Witch from Hansel and Gretel.
LIKE WHY DIDN'T I THINK ABOUT THAT???
I've been listening to Into the Woods so I can write about it in my Cinderella book.
There are so many things I could say about it.
But for now I’ll just make one remark, based on some comments I’ve read online.
Are there actually fans who think the Witch is an unambiguously good person?! Who genuinely think “We start out thinking she’s a villain but she’s the only character who’s actually good?”
She herself sings “I’m not good, I’m not nice, I’m just right.”
Yes, she’s sympathetic. Yes, she genuinely loves Rapunzel (though that certainly doesn’t make her a good mother). Yes, the other characters are wrong to blame her for their own mistakes, and yes, in “Last Midnight,” she becomes the voice of reason. But she’s still a very morally gray character!
I only just found out that Richard Dempsey, who played Peter in the '80s BBC miniseries of The Chronicles of Narnia, went on to play Jack in the original West End production of Into the Woods in 1990. And I didn't know it was him until after I listened to that production's cast recording for the first time!
Watching Into the Woods in the original Broadway production telecast, when I saw the Wolf's costume with its sculpted, sexy human-like abs on an otherwise animal body... and how this reinforces the idea that he's a symbolic seducer and sexual predator (as does a certain furry thing underneath those abs, but that's beside the point)... I couldn't help but think of a similar costume from another musical.
It reminded me of the Beast's costume in the original Broadway production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and how in his initial shirtless scenes, instead of being completely covered with fur like the animated character, he has a human-like chest an abdomen that we glimpse through the scraggly fur, complete with visible nipples and sculpted abs. And how according to the book on the making of the musical, he was given this look to enhance his "chemistry" with Belle – in other words, they wanted the Beast to be sexy.
Then I realized that both of these two costumes were designed by the same person: Ann Hould-Ward.
Now it makes perfect sense!
There seems to be a certain pattern when she designs costumes for baritone-voiced humanoid animal characters.

And what if I say Jack's mom referring to her son as "The slotted spoon can't hold much soup but it CAN catch the potato" is an autistic allegory
