watching ride or die episode 1. this GROWN MAN who wants to be PRIME MINISTER OF THE UK cannot find his NASAL SPRAY in a DRAWER
Post show thoughts as a Parker fan:
Ride or Die is a good time y'all!
Now, it goes without saying that Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer was a duo I never knew I needed and I am quite excited for the prospect of another season with all their hijinks (oh, and more of Calam Lynch and Savannah Steyn please) but I'd be lying if I didn't say that I really was here for Jamie.
First off, David...I have ran out of adjectives (derogatory) for you (x) but I am glad you are where you are right now. Tbh, you deserve a whole lot worse.
Lucky bastard.
But also, I'm just so glad to see Jamie Parker get to do some comedy again you know? Not that I didn't appreciate the last 10 years or so of him playing characters in constant emotional turmoil but crying every time I watch those shows can get quite exhausting after some time (I'm looking at you Next to Normal...and Into The Woods...and Benjamin Button).
Now don't get me wrong, I am still crying...but at least it's tears of laughter. And maybe a bit of schaudenfraude.
So, thank you Ride or Die. I might watch you again next week. But for now, please do excuse me - I gotta go watch Next to Normal...again.
Just watched the first episode of Ride or Die, and as soon as Octavia Spencer Character's Husband Character appeared onscreen, I was like, "Wait, is that...?" And it cut away to a different shot, and I'm like, "No, show me that man's face again," and guys it's Dan from West End Next to Normal.
David Ride Or Die meet me in the pit
hey. do you ever think about dan being the first one to say gabe’s name, despite diana centering so much of herself around him? because for diana, it was never just about gabe himself; he was the son she lost, the life she could have had, the mental illness that governed her life, the child she could imagine but not have to care for. he was a symbol for all of that. but for dan, gabe was gabe: his son, not a symbol. he cared about diana, about natalie, about gabe, about his family. so he said gabe’s name because he still recognizes gabe’s identity, even when - to diana - he’s spiraled so far beyond.
Might have to make a new one now that Ride or Die is out
This is gonna be where I post all things Parker/David in Ride or Die and will update as I continue my watch. Figured I'd keep it all in one place.
Thing of note, it's his first minute in and all I can say is what a pompous git 😂
I think a hug from Hester Leggatt would fix most of my problems
jack wolfe and jamie parker do things to me that i don't like my poor heart can't take it anymore
if you think about it it's actually really interesting that dan was trying to rewrite everything to be happier, even back to their wedding day, not just omitting gabe specifically; because it suggests that he blames a lot of their life for diana's bpd, perhaps most of all himself for not being able to give her what he would consider a "better" life ("a life restored")
but at the same time he doesn't rewrite natalie. because he loves natalie and even in her imperfections to him, she's perfect. "nat learned what her middle finger meant" said with affection and adoration, with fondness and love. he protests when she brings up the market incident, the fire that burned down their house, the cat they ran over- but not when diana forgot to show up to the recital. natalie even looks at him, as if seeing if he will interrupt on this one, too; but he doesn't. because even though it's a bad memory, and it hurts, it's one that specifically affects natalie, and so he doesn't touch it
The Kermit Dan allegations have been popping up again and you know what? It's fine. I was deep in the trenches when Shrek Dan was happening so this is all familiar ground. Not saying there aren't similarities (there are) but neither Kermit nor Shrek hindered my enjoyment of Dan as a character at all.
Dare I say it's actually endearing.
Too early to speculate and I guess spoilers BUT
