As summer is approaching, I’d like to remind everyone that you are not entitled to ask someone to cover up their scars, self inflicted or not. I don’t care if they’re big, I don’t care if they’re noticeable, or purple, or all over their body, or what. You can’t police people’s bodies.
This also goes for my friends with feeding tubes, ostomy bags, central lines and urinary catheters. People are allowed exist in bodies that stray from the expected norm.
do you ever think about how much of the original trilogy artoo spent silently watching the drama go down with popcorn
(commission info // tip jar!)
roald dahl was antisemitic and misogynistic. george orwell was openly homophobic. edgar allan poe married his 13 year old cousin. dr seuss cheated on his wife (and was racist as well as antisemitic!). hp lovecraft was racist as fuck. anyways they’re fucking dead it’s not like you’re enabling their behaviors in the afterlife or something. then again I think they bleed into the books so uh keep an eye out for that
the difference between these old white guys and jk rowling is that the former group is all dead. jk rowling is alive and using your money to oppress trans people
"everyone should get more aromantic" can appeal to tumblr's sensibilities but I genuinely think everyone should also get more asexual. I don't mean everyone stop having sex, what I mean is
Sex is not essential. You can live without it. Full stop.
Not having sex isn't shameful or a sign of failure. It also doesn't make anyone boring.
You are not entitled to having sex with anybody and nobody is entitled to having sex with you.
Sex is not what makes someone an adult.
Nobody's worth is defined by how much sex they have or don't have.
Sex is not equally important to everyone.
You can have fulfilling and happy relationships without sex.
You should only have sex on your own terms, not because you feel like you owe it to someone, or because you feel like you'd be incomplete without it.
Know your boundaries around sex and be firm about them. Know how to respect other people's boundaries.
The previous point also applies when it comes to discussing sex. If someone doesn't wanna talk about it or hear about it you have to back down.
Anything can be sexual but not everything has to be sexual.

Some people blame solely the racism (specifically against people with darker skin) and misogyny in fandom and the prioritizing of white guys on the Source Material. Then in Sinners the most popular guy is the white guy thats the personification of racism assimilation that doesn't appear in half the movie, a movie with 2 michael b jordans and increible black characters. In the locked tomb (book with mostly women) Silas and Colum, 2 white charas who are family and don't appear that much in the first book, have more fics than Coronabeth and Judith, a white woman and a black woman who keep appearing in the story and one of them canonically confessed her love to the other. In BG3 there is more fics with MC X Gortash (light skin bad guy that makes a tiny appearance in act 2 and then appears more in act 3) than MC X Wyll (Black guy who is literally one of the main characters in the game that is also impossible to skip, while you can completelly miss Astarion or Gale on accident). In Dragon Age: The Veilguard Davrin (the black guy) was the guy with less fics before the game was out when no one knew the characters so you couldn't judge in writing or content. In the Bridgerton show the most popular ship is the only main one who features 2 white people, etc etc like it just keeps happening and saying "its the source material, fandom just works with what it has" is just not true. And finding excuses why Every Time Actually It Makes Sense that the fandom would focus in the white guys no matter what show is justs doing mental gymnastic instead of admiting racism and misogyny exist everywhere, including fandom.
Listen, l i s t e n, every few months or so I get reminded of this scene that happens after Aymeric drives a bunch of angry rebels out of The Vault, and I go completely feral with emotions
Edmont tells Aymeric this won't be the last time that happens if the current political climate continues as it has been, and that he needs to make sure to take care of their people and of himself, then drops this line. and just walks away.
Aymeric is standing there stunned and awkward trying to be appropriately honored by a grieving father who's also right about the politics of the situation, and apparently unlike Edmont has probably not forgotten that Artoirel is right there.
Artoirel steps forward behind Aymeric to follow his father, but before he passes the point where Aymeric could see him
he stops still and turns his head, obviously conflicted and gathering himself, and the camera focuses entirely on his face even though he hasn't got any lines in this scene at all. the father he respects and admires is obviously not bearing up well under all the recent changes, and just all but adopted a surrogate for the beloved son he's recently lost without even acknowledging his eldest son's presence. not even so much as a look. his father needs him now more than ever. his father is taking him for granted and always has.
he probably daydreamed as a child about the relationship he might have had with Edmont if Haurchefant wasn't there to be the favorite, and now he has the bitterest proof that it would never have been better, is not going to get better.
and he still walks after his father, away from Aymeric and Lucia and the gathered Scions. Edmont never looks back to see if he's coming, but he is. someone still has to hold this family together.
The Fortemps family are so fucked up you guys. the drama of it. it just makes me gnash my teeth and wail every single time.
@talesofamelody AUGH, I had completely forgotten that line since it's obvs not in the Unending Journey, but tbh it just makes everything worse! Because yeah, that's a shitty thing for Artoirel to have said! but it shows where Artoirel's mind is - in that moment, heading into the Vault to do combat, he's mentally lining himself up against the memory of Haurchefant.
And he came back, and they accomplished everything they set out to do! And Edmont... doesn't say a word to him, and instead is comparing Aymeric to Haurchefant instead. Granted, Aymeric was the one in more danger because he was going in still injured, and these rebels didn't pose nearly the same threat as the Heaven's Ward, but not even a single nod of acknowledgement to being glad that his actual son made it back out of the building unharmed? This soon after losing Haurchefant there, you were worried, right? ...right?
And, and! Obliquely, the follow-up demonstrates that Artoirel has grown and matured, because unlike his relationship with Haurchefant, this dynamic doesn't sour his relationship with Aymeric. They continue being able to work together without a trace of resentment, Artoirel is if anything more concerned about Aymeric's health than Aymeric is (because Aymeric is still terrible about minding his own safety and well-being). How much of that is guilt over how he treated his brother is debatable, but at the very least it's clear that he's grown up enough not to continue placing the blame for his father's favoritism on the favorite who didn't ask for any of this.
...there might need to be fic that comes of this...
i dont have anything in particular to add to this conversation except that i'm glad someone else is thinking about this because: here is a meme i scrambled to make in 2015 directly after watching this go down. when it was current storyline.
you could say it's been on my mind a while lol
There's a few additional levels to this that just continue to make the moment so much worse and more fraught.
Haurchefaunt's death here, in this very building, not all that long ago, was Aymeric's fault.
If Aymeric hadn't impulsively rushed in to confront Thordan in person--a thing that literally everyone present told him not to do--Haurchefaunt would still be alive.
And he absolutely believes this! When he sends you after Thordan, look at how he falters and looks downcast over WoL's reaction if you say you want vengeance on Zephrin. That's guilt.
2. He just did the exact same thing again. Rushing into the Vault while still recovering from being stabbed almost fatally, to confront people in person when told not to.
And...
3. Edmont is spot on. Aymeric is a lot like Haurchefaunt. Remember that short story where little teenage Haurchefaunt murders a bunch of full-grown kidnappers with an arrow stuck in his arm? Haurchefaunt had a sometimes-unhinged streak when he felt that something needed to be done, and Artoirel and Emmanellain absolutely do not. But Aymeric? Aymeric does.
4. It is literally this very quality that got Haurchefaunt killed.
So while this sounds sentimental, and it is sentimental, when Edmont tells Aymeric he sees a lot of Haurchefaunt in him... this is a criticism. It's meant just as much as a "Stop doing the shit that got my son killed" as it is an "I care about your wellbeing."
And then there's Artoirel.
You are about to find out right after this that Edmont is stepping down, but Artoirel has to have known about it already at this point. Probably they've been discussing this for days.
He went into the Vault anyway.
The soon-to-be Count Fortemps ran into a pitched battle in the place his brother died, quoting him as he did so.
As if... maybe he wanted to get himself killed. That line he repeats? He says it when Edmont isn't present. It's at the gate to the basilica, and he says it to Aymeric. Who wasn't there when Haurchefaunt said it originally. The only ones present who would know he was quoting his brother are The Warrior of Light and Alphinaud.
The ones to whom he admits later how he dreads becoming Count and has come to abhor his place in upholding Ishgard's legacy of lies.
He and Edmont don't discuss his choice to go with Aymeric beforehand or after he volunteers, and I wonder how much of Edmont's silence to him afterward is anger because he knows Artoirel just tried to kill himself?
Edmont is telling them both off in this moment. And I think they both realize it.

guys i’m so sorry to say this but exercising and indulging in hobbies rather than scrolling on your phone for 200 hours actually does improve your mood and overall mental health, this has deeply upset me more than anyone
Do you think Maul feels authentically despite his manipulation of people
oh he absolutely does!
sam witwer said that maul just wants to "be chosen." maul is so lonely and he craves connection, but doesn't understand what healthy connection looks like. i mean, can you blame him? he literally has no frame of reference for a healthy relationship. maul loved savage, but treats him as his apprentice because maul doesn't know how to be a brother.
we are all products of our environment. children of divorced parents are more likely to get divorced themselves because they don't know what a healthy marriage looks like. they have seen and felt the consequences of their parents poor relationship, but if they lack the tools to self-reflect and process their trauma, they can perpetuate the cycle. being aware of your trauma is one thing, facing the consequences is another.
maul adopted sidious' cruelty, but hes convinced himself that hes better than sidious because he doesn't use force lightning or throw children into a frozen lake.
he wants close personal relationships, but its easier to fall back on old habits of keeping the relationship surface level and using manipulation to get what he wants. to be authentic requires vulnerability, which maul hates because he desperately needs control. better the devil you know, right?
Okay, you know, re-reading the Haurchefaunt story "Thoughts Unspoken" just drives home how wildly different Haurchefaunt's view of his family was from Artoirel's. Because when Artoirel apologizes to WoL after their mission in Falcon's Nest, he says that their father "has never been able to say no to my dear half-brother." But Haurchefaunt in his letter suggests he barely ever spoke to his father, and certainly not to ask him for things--this request to take in the Scions was a struggle for him. From Francel's story "Vows Unbroken," Haurchefaunt ran off and avoided being at the manor as much as possible to get away from the Countess.
I... wonder if Artoirel was just continually told that Haurchefaunt was their father's favorite by his mother. Rather than actually seeing any evidence for it himself.
Look, there's something profoundly wrong and not okay with the all 3 of the Fortemps brothers, but especially Artoirel and Emmanellain and it is easy to see their Father's part in it (the neglect of who they are as people, the way he never sees them or what they contribute, the sideways comparisons to Aymeric and finding them wanting, the idealization of the knighthood and freedom that Haurchefant represents for him against their duties as heirs of House Fortemps, the fact that they mostly seem to exist to fill a part of his duty he'd rather forget he's trapped in), but their mother must have contributed too.
And how could she not, married to a man who had an affair, who openly acknowledged the bastard child who resulted, who constantly overlooked the children (heirs) she gave him. There's no mention of her by Edmont, she might as well never have existed for all he speaks of her. And you can feel her resentment of that fact and how she passed it on to especially Artoirel in early Heavenswards so very clearly. Emmanalein is the useless one, the one who doesn't fit, but Artoirel is his mother's son, he's the one who mentions her, who feels the emotion of what her place in the family was. And Artoirel's growth is subtle and background, but his acceptance of his father's shortcomings and disregard for him and decisions to do his duty anyway, to not resent Aymeric for being his father's new favorite the way he resented Haurchefant, to stand beside him and fight for a new Ishgard, is such a good arc in that light. He won't be consumed by the resentment that is fair at all the things his father is and isn't, he's going to do what is right and care anyway, he's going to be secure in his own worth rather than lash out anymore.
So I’ve gone insane and decided to make a Haurchefant alt for funsies and so I can play dolls with him haha
He’s currently on Kraken in the Dynamis data centre but since Lila and my Mei alt are on Malboro he spends most of the time there!
I LOVE HAURCHEFANT PLEASE KEEP CHEERING FOR ME
