stupid running joke i love is how every single splatoon campaign has some moment where the idols are like "surely you recognize us, the world-famous squid sisters/off the hook/deep cut" and the player character just. doesn't. because normally the punchline of this sort of joke is that haha they aren't actually that famous, they just have an overinflated sense of ego, but that is demonstrably not the case here. these are actual bona-fide megastars who just so happen to keep enlisting god's most autistic soldiers. the universe is conspiring against them to find the single most out-of-the-loop person in the world at any given moment and send them to save the day. this rocks. i hope they never stop pulling this shit

There will be people who think that the books are being "preserved" or that many of these books are not valuable enough to care about, or too old. But if these books had no value, genAI companies wouldn't want to take them, copy them, then charge people for the copies.

I read somewhere that the Library of Alexandria wasn't just lost to a single devastating fire, but went through many stages of neglect before anyone mourned it's loss.

I don't want the future generations to mourn what we might lose to these companies.

Looks like a certain flying insect laid her eggs in my turtle pond at some point! Do you know who?

That’s right, this is a dragonfly nymph! Our impressive flying friends actually spend the vast majority of their life like this: as a ferocious aquatic predator. The way we see them above water is comparatively a fleeting moment of their lifespan.

I will probably relocate this nymph to a clean fresh stream nearby as my humble pond has no prey to support this fearsome hunter, which is a shame because I’d loved nothing more than to watch her emerge from the water in a few years!

Megachile sculpturalis, a sculptured resin bee! I watched this hole that had been filled with resin by who was presumably this bee's mother for a year to see when the new bee would emerge, and it finally did in late May! By this time the following month, the hole and another one nearby was filled again to repeat the cycle with a new baby bee.

Here you see me prodding at the bee just out of curiosity for how it would respond, since it seemed to care more about the hole it emerged from than anything else, and yep, not even being prodded at by another living thing would deter it!
