hawthorne-investigations:
Jameson Leroy.
An eruption of laughter burst through her head as Dorian finally broke his silence. It was so fierce and so sudden that it managed to slip through her lips in a soft chuckle. Caitlin quickly got a hold of herself but it didnât matter. It doesnât erase the fact that Jamesonâs brother had managed to stumble into her firm on pure happenstance.Â
She tried to speak. Once. Twice. She failed both times. On third she managed to say:
âI think there are a few serial killers named Jameson. There was that one activist in Chicago, but youâre right⌠not a lotâŚâ
Her throat was suddenly dry. Jamesonâs brother. Here to stay the fuck away Jameson. She didnât believe it. Beau possesses none of the sharp cruelty of Jameson. Kind eyes, warm posture. This kid wasnât a sociopath.
Unless -
Caitlin sat up and narrowed her eyes. What were the chances of this boy being no different than Jameson? After all, once upon a time, hadnât Jameson trapped her with the nectar of a sweet smile and a boyish design? Trust no one Caitlin.
She was almost tempted to ask him that riddle, the one that is supposed to detect whether or not someone is a sociopath. âA woman goes to her sisterâs funeral.â But Dorianâs laughter had stopped and it caught her attention.
< Let me speak to him Cassandra >
âNo.â She thought and immediately she held tight. There was no version in which that ended pleasantly. Caitlin didnât know much, but she was certain of that.Â
< No? What do you mean no? >
âNo.â
< I want to speak to my goddamn kin Cassandra >
And then, it was like getting hit by a train. She was rocked out of control of her body and up stepped Dorian. The shift took no more than five seconds.
âLe Blanc.â Dorian enunciated the words, breaking the quiet of the room. He didnât care about maintaining pretenses or the stakes they held so quickly the facade fell away.Â
âNot Leroy. Did you change your name to distance yourself from your family? Your motherâs maiden name perhaps? But why? And that is an excellent line of questioning - why werenât you killed in the first place? This man liberates you from the oppression of your parents and grants you and your sister life... have you ever taken the time to consider why he didnât just slaughter you? Itâs not from lack of capability because he is obviously capable. Maybe he thought you were deserving of life and that you were meant for so much more.â
For Dorian this was a reunion. His own blood ran through the veins of his young man. Sure heâd chosen Jameson and held him above all, but there was no denying the power blood had over Dorian. There was nothing greater than blood.
âTell me a little bit more about yourself though. What is it that you do these days Beau Leroy? Is your sister Aislinn here with you?â
Beau waited, figuring Caitlin might offer him condolences, the normal reaction, or at least a preliminary pricing. Instead she muttered his last name like she was eating it. There was something ... strange. He couldn't put his finger on it, but it set the hair on the back of his neck dancing. Jameson. That's who it reminded him of. It was that way of talking that he'd slip into sometimes. It made no sense, but he was already getting ready to run.
He didn't even really pay attention to the questions, which were getting more and more disturbing and far too aware of his past, until Caitlin mentioned his sister. He'd never mentioned Aislinn, he didn't want to involve her. And he'd certainly never said her name. He tilted his head and tried to breathe normally. "You ask a lot of questions about me for someone whoâs supposed to find my brother." There was no sense denying it right now. Focus on getting away, then deal with whatever fall-out there would be. Christ, he'd been so careful, picking someone known for understanding the supernatural. Jameson must have gotten to her first. Could his brother be that paranoid, that he'd contact every investigator in the city? It's what Beau would have done if he were insane and a sociopath, so probably. Shit.Â
"You know, thinking it over, I don't think I really can afford you. This was stupid. I'd better just go and spend that money on guns or something. You know, the American way."
