i think what's most haunting about running a blog is that you see all the numbers, and every post, no matter how old, is attached to you forever. Writing for other publications, I can submit my draft and leave. My words are a part of something bigger, and I can quickly move onto the next thought. If I make a splash, it's more so the publication that gets the attention (I'm occasionally quoted on Wikipedia, which. hell yeah who isn't going to get excited about that).

With my blog though, posts from 2023 — before I even went to journalism school and learned how to be a good critic — are always posted at the top of my page as "most popular." Pieces I've written that I've come to disagree with because I either learned more about an artist and begun to appreciate them or completely fumbled the seriousness of the song are at the top of the page in "most popular." From seeing the numbers, I read all this activity as endorsements of opinions I don't have anymore, but if I say anything, it only brings more attention to these posts I kinda don't want people finding. Idk, I hadn't found my author's voice for a LOT of them, and it's not really what I ~do~ in terms of the full scope of my reporting.

There's also a whole other issue I need to get over which is subscribers v. unique visitors. I'm very proud of the fact that I consistently get triple-digit views on my blog entries now, especially since I don't post nearly enough to keep up with the press cycles of traditional media. It makes me feel like I have authority....That people actually care about my opinions and actively seek them out? But then I don't have many subscribers, and it's like oh! I'm actually a nobody. (But again, if I do the right thing by sharing my posts on social media, a lot of my friends will have checked it out anyway...That's a different kind of loyalty that isn't on the books...)

tl;dr, i wish i could escape some thoughts from my past, i wish i could post about artists without them noticing, and i wish i could be the most respected music critic ever. yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay #insecurity
