Castiel lay in bed, unable to sleep. The slight chill in the air had made it uncomfortable to sleep bare and, finding himself still without proper night attire, he remained wrapped in the royal blue bathrobe that he had found hanging, unclaimed, on the back of his motel bathroom door. It would do for now. Fresh from the shower, Castiel drifted in thought. He should probably make his way down to North Carolina next. Pick up some supplies in the morning and head out early. The less time he wasted on these stops the more ground he could make up. Maybe he’d catch up to him in Charlotte. Thoughts always circled back to the inevitable. He had hoped the scalding hot jets of water washing over him would offer some distraction, if not relaxation. Unfortunately they provided neither as his fingers idly traced the water’s path, ghosting the attentive hand of an absent lover. Tearing himself from the moment, Castiel grunted and abruptly shut off the faucet. The last rivulets of water continued to trail their way down his naked body and Castiel found himself agitated. So in bed he lay, leg sprawled restlessly out of the sheets, waiting for sleep to take him when the phone ringing on the bedside table interrupted his meandering thoughts. He looked toward it curious at first, then suddenly filled with an unwarranted wave of hope. The caller ID yielded no additional information. Though this was hardly surprising as Castiel had a total sum of four numbers programmed in to his phone. He fumbled with he phone before answering in his unused and sleep gravelled voice, “Hello?” “Cas…it’s me…”
