This is a whump blog. I reblog whumpy things I like and write my own stories here. I will repeat: it's a whumpy place for whump, aka "quite extreme stuff you might want to be careful with when interacting". I haven't finished my tagging system but I try to put any relevant content warnings before every story of mine. Look out for that! (The posts I reblog might or might not have the warnings.)

"I'm not sure I understand," Caretaker frowned. They leaned back against the kitchen counter, watching as Whumpee glared at them from the dining room table. "You're always saying that you believe you're your own person, and that you deserve to be taken seriously. All I did was agree with you-"

"It's fucking weird!" Whumpee snapped. "Of course I say those things - I believe them. I benefit from those things. You don't!"

They'd half expected Caretaker to realise their mistake and agree. Instead, Caretaker continued to stare at them with that infuriating little frown on their face. No anger, just confusion. "Why wouldn't I benefit from taking you seriously? You're very intelligent. You've got a good heart."

Caretaker's head tilted to the side a little, examining them in a way that made Whumpee instinctively shrink into themselves. "I don't think you do really believe those things, which is sad, because I do."

so whumpee pov and rocky recovery... second most voted is living weapon, so maybe there could be a sprinkling of that as well? let me see if i can come up with some scenarios for you guys to choose from

scenario 1: living weapon whumpee is on a mission when they get separated from their handler. try as they might, they can't reconnect. caretaker bumps into them by accident.

scenario 2: living weapon whumpee is in training in a facility not far from caretaker's home. caretaker and the other locals have no idea what's going on in the building. whumpee fails to meet expectations and is thrown out onto the street. they have no one. caretaker finds them having a breakdown.

scenario 3: living weapon whumpee is tired of being a living weapon and hurting people. their unwillingness to engage in violence earns them a lot of punishments. after a particularly bad one where they're beaten within an inch of their life, they realise if they stay, they'll die. they run and bump into caretaker.

scenario 4: living weapon whumpee's target is caretaker. they'd taken out targets before, but this time is just... different. as they stalk caretaker they see how beloved they are by their community, how good of a person they are. as opposed to whumpee's handler, who's a monster. they decide against taking out their target, instead revealing themself and asking for help.

care and tenderness as violating and coercive acts. being forced into vulnerability for your own good by someone who does not actually see you as a person but as a symbol or a figure too valuable to let die. you have power over so much but not your own body. you have lost the right to risk. everybody cheered

leader sits on the floor, knees to their chest as they try to ignore the tapping of sidekick's boots on the floor as they pace the cell.

sidekick stops in front of leader and shouts, "how are you so fucking calm right now!?"

leader tenses as another one of whumpee's screams rings through the echoing hallway. "if they're screaming, they're alive. there's nothing we can do for them right now, but whumper's going to drop them back in here and we need to be ready for it."

something i never see explored with caretaker or friend characters is what it's like to grow up surrounded by traumatised people, but have no trauma of your own. it feels like you're on the outside of this club that you can only get into by going through something Really Bad, even though the people inside the club are happy to welcome you anyway, you know you'll never actually fit in.

and fucked up as it sounds, you want to fit in. you want the awful things to happen to you. you feel envious of what they have, even if that thing is memories of the most awful things known to man and consequences that run your daily functioning into the ground.

you're not sick enough to relate to the sick people, but you've seen ever so slightly too much to fit in with the "normal" people. your problems seem so minimal compared to these life-altering horrors that the whumpees have been through, yet you're not coping anyway. so either you admit that the problem is yourself, or you find a reason to react that way.

give me caretakers that sit through whumpee's stories and swallow back envy. who actively go looking for danger and dodgy people in the hopes that they'll go through something that can put them on whumpee's level. who plan out how to make things worse in precise, structured detail, then get angry with themself because what the fuck are they doing and it doesn't count if it's fucking orchestrated.

like the betrayal’s always going to be worse if they cared about you and it didn’t matter. someone discards you because they didn’t give a shit, then you can be angry about that, you can feel vindicated in that, you can get over it. but if they can look you in the eyes and say “I love you. That moment when whumpee and caretakers are talking, arguing, eating etc. and caretaker makes a specific move or motion that causes whumpee to flinch, causing caretaker to freeze, a few beats of horrified dead silence.

Whumpee who after they’re rescued, disassociates all the time. Their mind drifts away while eating breakfast, and Caretaker has to gently nudge them, remind them where they are, that it’s okay— they don’t need to do that here. It’s safe right now, and it will be forever, yeah?

That is, except for the shaking. They hide their hands in their pockets, but their shoulders and legs shake too. They swallow, but it doesn’t keep the trembling fully out of their voice. They sit, pretend to cough, give a reassuring smile to their friends. Whumpee is strong. Whumpee has standards to keep up with. They’re better than their body’s betrayal.

Team notices, but they know better than to comment on it in the moment.

Caretaker who finally gives in and gives them as mild a punishment as they can that will still make whumpee feel absolved.

Whumpee shaking and crying through their punishment but tearfully thanks their whumper caretaker over and over for making them good again.

Whumpee who can only eat and sleep after brutal correction.

Caretaker who is corrupted by the power it gives them.

Whumpee with a habit of encouraging people, whumpers or not, to hurt them. They don't think about why, don't think about it in terms of getting a choice in when the pain inevitably comes, but the implication could be there.

Guy who never feels like his problems are “bad enough” to be taken seriously: what if I hurt the character so horrifically that everyone around them could not possibly deny the severity of their pain even if the character themself tries to downplay it.

Captive whumpee paraded around somewhere in public, where people gawk at them; their situation is unmistakeable. Their hands cuffed together and attached to a heavy chain lead, their ankles chained with just enough space between them. They're wearing something plain and cheap, not something any self-respecting person would put on. Not that it matters.

They have two guards following them closely, one on each side, the stronger looking one holds their lead lazily, strolling next to the captive.

Everyone knows. They're finally out in public, but they have never been more left alone.

They used to think that there would be nothing that could ruin the day they are finally take a step outside, but now that they're there, they long for the quiet, empty cell.
