I started going through and watching all the previous pow creations smps because of my vampires hyperfixation. i binged cowboys smp, rats smp and pirates smp, and i just started on outsiders, and holy shit. why did no one tell me about this?????? I started watching outsiders like 2 days ago, and i'm about 3/4 of the way through so far and i absolutely cannot overstate how much i love this series. I could swear i was a member of the smp because of how invested i got while watching it. I have not nearly cried, laughed, yelled, or panicked in my entire life as much i have in the last 2 days while watching it. I'm only watching owen's perspective atm, but i just know i'm gonna be fed so well for the next few months. anyway, gtg binge the rest of it, and then consume every single piece of content i can find on the internet

No because Owen’s “evil” characters are so often Mirrors.

Because Vampires Owen was shown cruelty by humans and a compassion by a vampire and so he turns that around on them. He burns Oakhurst to the ground after they take away the one person who’s ever showed him kindness. Because they took that kindness away from him. And he is going to make sure they feel that.

Now the new vampires show no respect for him. They tell him he has no power over them, and yeah, no he doesn’t. He hasn’t turned a single one of them. Because that’s now what’s written in his backstory. Because his backstory is full of loneliness and pain. So he doesn’t turn anyone because that would go against who he is as a person- lonely.

And Outsiders Owen was told that he is an instrument of war. He was taught that demons were all that was wrong with this world. So, the moment he remembered his backstory, that’s what he did. Because he was told that demons were bad. So he turned that onto the nearest demon he saw. Because that’s what he was taught. Obedience. Killing.

“They and us can never coexist”. It is the philosophy of both V!Owen and O!Owen hold, and even though one was taught through rigorous military training and the other through sheer ignorance by the people he lived near, they both hold it strong. Because that’s what they know. And they will reflect it back into the world. Because that’s all they are: a mirror to what they were taught.

Now O!Owen is interesting because he actually doesn’t remember his backstory for most of the plot. But he has snippets. He knows he’s a fighter. He knows he was asked to protect people. He knows he had a bow. He knows he had a mentor. So what does he do? He tries to make that mentor proud. He picks up a bow. He becomes a fighter. He fights the problem. Just, this time, the problem is the maze. So he fights that. He protects. Because that’s all he knows how to do. And sure he doesn’t remember all that he’s supposed to stand for, but he still holds onto the bits he does know. He reflects. Even when the mirror is incomplete.

Then the moment he gets his memories back, the moment the mirror gets restored to its fullness, he does a 180° morality turn and goes on to reflect all of his past. It doesn’t matter that o!Apo was his friend! It doesn’t matter that o!Rasbi was the first person he ever saw and the person he rode up that elevator with. It doesn’t matter because Owen’s not a person with changing beliefs, he’s a static mirror which reflects all that it was shown in the past before the plot began.

(Heck even his Rats SMP s2 character who isn’t evil does this! He was good at parkour. That’s how he met his feeing. That’s what made him unique. So that’s what he is. He’s the rat that does parkour. That’s it. That’s him. Because Owen’s characters reflect whatever they were taught by their backstory. Oh and don’t even get me started on that hidden o!SMP maze bit in the Rats SMP house because what do you mean the pull of the mirror is so strong it literally transcends universes and makes rat!Owen quote words that aren’t even his own to rats!Apo who is his friend this time?!)

And more often than not this backfired on them. Because the issue with a mirror is that it’s stuck in one place. That one thing it saw, that’s what it will reflect. O!Owen can’t understand why he ended up in the maze, because he did everything right didn’t he? He killed the demon! That’s the thing we was supposed to do! That’s the thing he’s been praised for his entire life! Who is this one demon suddenly better off alive?

And V!Owen is show that people are evil. So why is there suddenly a doctor trying to help him? And he is taught that people can’t accept vampires, so why is it suddenly alright for o!Shelby and o!Pyro to be accepted back if they wanted to? He doesn’t understand this. He can’t! Because it goes against his backstory. Against the thing he was taught and thus against the thing he reflects.

And sure, V!Owen hates people who never did anything to him. And o!Owen kills o!Apo even though they were friends just minutes ago. And they both lash out against people who never did anything to deserve it. Bet it doesn’t matter. Because Owen’s mirrors are lashing out against the world itself for giving them this view and not something kinder. So it doesn’t matter if the people they’re hurting now are complicit or not, if they had anything to do with the hand the Owens were dealt with in life or not, because it’s the world they ultimately reflect. And it is the world they ultimately despise, for just not being kinder.

Because the one thing a mirror can’t do is turn around a little and reflect something else.

When I was younger and researching the autism diagnosis criteria and symptoms, I thought “oh I couldn’t POSSIBLY be autistic.” Because when I read “takes everything literally” I thought it literally meant EVERYTHING and I was like “I don’t take EVERYTHING literally, just most things!” And I just realized the other day that it didn’t actually mean EVERYTHING and that was an overstatement.

I love owen sm, if he dies in the last episode i'm gonna fully crash out. "But Owen killed Avid-!" don't care. The more irredeemable he becomes, the more i love him. Everyone saying "Owen we can't keep defending you!" is wild to me, because like,,, obviously?? that's the point?? like why were you trying to defend him in the first place lmao? this is the same guy who killed the entirety of oakhurst, INCLUDING THE INNOCENT CHILDREN as revenge, what were you expecting from him???

"I am the teeth that Louis was too good to bear." i think this line from the end of Owen's episode shows that Owen is aware of the immorality of his actions, he knows that Louis probably wouldn't have approved of his actions- at least deep down he does- but he is motivated by revenge. And it was never about revenge for Louis, because if it was, Owen would have stopped at killing the villagers of oakhurst who were actually responsible for burning Louis. But he didn't, because it wasn't about Louis, it's about Owen, and him loosing his only chance at happiness that he ever had.

Owen was traumatised before he lost Louis, he spent his whole life ostracized and scorned, just for the crime of existing, his hatred of the people of Oakhurst existed long before Louis was killed. And if you think about it, he was born and raised in that town, when literally everyone that he ever met treated him like that, of course he would come to the conclusion that all humans are bad, and Avid's prejudice against vampires confirmed that for Owen!

But then, when oakhurst was ready and willing to make the exception to accept Shelby but not him- When Pyro and Shelby lied to him- this is where Owen realised, it was never about vampires vs humans. And when it comes down to it, he will never be fully accepted, never truly belong with any side, vampires or humans.

And for Owen, to watch Avid, someone who is exactly like him, being accepted (mostly) into both groups, human and vampires, of course Owen hated him. Of course he did. Because Avid had everything that Owen never got to have. He had friends who accepted him when he was sick, and continued to accept him after becoming a vampire, and he had his own 'Louis' in Scott.

Which is why he kills Avid. (honestly, valid crash out imo)

He knows what he did was illogical and wrong, he straight up says it in the episode, "I could make up a reason but the truth is that i just didn't like the guy" He knows that this would fracture the vampire 'family' apart, and he literally calls Avid a 'child', but he kills Avid anyway.

I love villains who actually do bad things, I love villains who are fully aware of the immorality of their actions, but do it anyway.

Actually, the more I think about it, the more Owen actually reminds me of Shen Jiu from SVSSS lmao.

genuine art tip: if you get art block or if you've hit a slump in a particular project, try experimenting with different styles and mediums. Take the stress and pressure out of the situation, and try something new that you've never done before.

That can be anything, scrap-booking, charcoal, clay, or even just messing around on canva or something. It doesn't matter if it turns out bad, just mess around, have fun, experiment. Don't spend time trying to make it perfect, or you won't make anything at all, just focus on making something, anything, it doesn't matter if it turns out ugly.

If you give up and stop making art, stop drawing, avoid it, it just makes it worse, your skills will atrophy over time, just like physical exercise. Yes, you can take breaks, but the second creating art stops being fun is when it becomes a chore.
