What if it failed because the energy it was supposed to dampen is something else? What if he meant to give it to someone who was also covered in energy stuff? What if after doomsday, the doctor in denial, while he rushes to find a way to get her back, he made this tiny thing so when he did get her back, he wont lose her again?

And yes.. What if this ring was supposed to belongs to another lost bride?
