What we have to do is fucking GROW UP.

There’s not one single thing in the world (outside of the choice of what’s for dinner) that gives “us” 100% of what we want 100% of the time. This is especially true for politics.

Do you know what Biden is?

An acceptable (note: not perfect. not necessarily desirable.) compromise candidate who can pull the largest number of people behind him.

Do you know what Biden is? A candidate who can carry the Midwest and Rust Belt states, the flyover states that went to Trump and guaranteed his victory.

He’s a candidate with experience. He’s a candidate who has been in the trenches for decades, has seen social challenges and changes, who has been wrong in the past (but right for the time he was in, wrong when viewed with today’s lens) and has apologized for the “mistakes” he has made.

He’s lost his son and grieved deeply.

Would I like to see other candidates? sure. I particularly like Mayor Pete Buttigieg. But when the time comes to enter the voting booth? Vote for the party (that’d be Democrat) if you can’t vote for the candidates, because it’s better to have Biden than Trump.

I’m gonna level with you, I have qualms about EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT IN THE RACE. I’m leaning toward Elizabeth Warren. But no matter who ends up getting the nomination, they are going to be better than Trump. Trump is abusing the hell out of executive privilege. He’s gotten to appoint a fuckton of judges. He’s taking unilateral action to restrict civil rights, particularly the rights of trans people. There are legitimate concerns that Trump will try to resist stepping aside if he loses the 2020 election! At this point, the name of the game is containing the fucking damage.

Food is just food and doesn’t have a natural mealtime. This is especially important to remember when you’re dealing with mental illness that makes it hard to eat.

When I’m in a down swing with my depression, I forget to eat/don’t feel like eating. When I do get around to eating, often the only thing I want is something like pancakes, or milk, or apple sauce. And of course it’s 6pm and I feel lame for eating ‘breakfast’ foods. Or it’s 8am and I want fried chicken, and feel like a terrible person for eating dinner at 8 in the morning.

But food is just food. We assign certain foods to certain times of day culturally, but it’s not a biological thing. Your body can digest pizza at 9 in the morning and yogurt at 11pm. Are you eating food? Yes? Then great! It doesn’t matter what ‘kind’ of food you’re eating, as long as you’re nourishing that body of yours. It’s ok to have cheap ramen for breakfast if that’s all you can stand to eat. That’s ok–you ate food today!! That’s a major accomplishment when you’re dealing with an illness that tries to stop you from doing everyday person things. (Especially if you’re recovering from an eating disorder.)

Don’t feel bad if you eat rice for breakfast or muffins for dinner. Food is just food.

I’ll give you a metaphor. Say you walk into a clothing store. This is a very weird clothing store and the only two sections they have are shirts and pants. That’s it. No skirts, shoes, rompers, shorts, or socks.

Of course not all the shirts look the same. There are crop tops, button ups, graphic t-shirts, etc. The pants have different types of jeans, slacks, you name it. But that’s all they have.

People start complaining about this and the store decides it will start having a third section of things that aren’t shirts and pants. However, this section holds all things that aren’t shirts and pants. Skirts and jackets which sort of look like pants or shirts but aren’t them really. Combination clothing like jumpsuits, rompers, and dresses. There’s also things that don’t resemble pants or shirts at all. Shoes, socks, hats, necklaces, bags, headscarves, and more. All of these things are put in the “not shirts or pants” category because with the store’s current system that’s the best that can be done.

So see, non binary genders are like that third clothing section in the store. Some are loosely connected to one or both of the binary genders, some people are a combination of different things, some people are completely removed from the binary genders. Some people have no gender at all. All of these fit into the “other” category that is non binary.
