@widgenstain
the spirit is unwilling and the flesh it feels not so good also
When I finished The Vegitarian by Han Kang, I checked out a few reviews to see what other people thought of it (I LOOOVED it) and was super put off by people going "but it's so daaark and brutal". Oh shut up, welcome to the reality of being a woman in a patriarchal society, you whining baby. So I ignored all the reviews about Human Acts being so brutal too and phewww, was I wrong there!
I mean, I adore it so far, she is an amazing writer and I'm learning about something I didn't know of before, but reading about children and teens washing and stowing the dead bodies of the victims of the Gwangju massacre maaaayyybe is not the best or lightest bedtime story.

i felt like these tags really added to the experience, thanks @cynderxdustypaws for your knowledge
This is one of the most powerful images I have ever seen, and I will reblog it every single time because every single time it brings tears to my eyes.
So I've finished Walk the Blue Fields and now I wonder: do we know for certain that they've adapted the titular story, or are the outlets just assuming they did? Because the titular story with the priest reminiscing about his romantic past is beautiful, but it does not really make sense to adapt it with this casting, unless they've only "loosely based" it on that story.
The last short story, however... Granted, Emily Blunt doesn't scream amazonian bog witch either, nor does Andrew scream ugly peat cutter oddball who sleeps with his goat, but that would actually be a story that could work as an on screen romance, and, more importantly, features two equal-ish roles for them!
Reblog and put in the tags your favorite Guillermo del Toro film.
The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.
Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.
So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.
Bears. Theyāre everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.
oh shit
As the OP of this post, Iām going to threaten that if this gets to one million notes by the 10 year anniversary on 1 June 2026, one year from today, I will get a lower back tattoo of the loch ness bear monster.

I haven't watched this yet, but I've been scrolling through related clips, and I really love Andrew's makeup and costume in it.

Magazine interview: Andrew Scott in Vivienne Westwood for Pressure (2026) in GQ Magazine // May 28, 2026
Highlight:
That idea of fashion feeling personal rather than performative is something Scott comes back to a lot. Especially as an Irish actor, where dressing well can sometimes accidentally become a personality trait. There's a slang in Ireland ā ānotionsā ā which basically means somebody who thinks very highly of themselves. Dress too loudly, speak too confidently, act a bit too important, and there's a good chance someone's mammy will accuse you of having them.
But Scott sees things a bit differently. āI think there's a mistake sometimes that fashion is about showing off,ā he says. āI think it's more about embracing how you feel.ā
āIn order to be any kind of artist, you have to have some degree of notions,ā he says. āOtherwise there'd be no point going into the arts at all. You wouldn't even paint a picture if you were too worried about people thinking you had notions and taking the piss out of you.ā
He pauses for a second before adding: āHave all the notions you want, just don't be a wanker about it.ā
