vsmp pyro as a character is so fascinating to me, especially with this shift in narrative from pyro himself that he is unreliable. a man who is so split from reality that nothing is real at this point, and its all just something he can someday wake up from. this is all just a nightmare, and pyro is the victim stuck in the spiral.
imagine someone is bullying you, and you kill him. premeditated, accidental, self defense, doesnt matter how all that matters is that you took his life. except this is where it starts yknow? the first split from reality. you didnt kill him, you didn't do it. everyone says you did, but theres no way you could have, you're innocent.
so you leave to fix things. fresh start, new people, a goal to write some thesis and show people that you ARE innocent regardless of evidence and testimony. you didnt kill that guy. you die on your first night.
split number two from reality. a man you didnt quite trust or know brutally kills you in the middle of the woods after his buddy drinks from your body. it turns you into something new and dead and comes with a lot of expectation. suddenly the new expectation is that you have to kill to survive, that it is you and your hunger versus the rest of the world. such a split forms an unhealthy attachment to the man who killed you. safety and self preservation comes from keeping him happy, from sucking up to him until you can finally find the safety to break off from him. this cant possibly be real, but you are living it, so now you gotta make the best of it. then you accidentally piss him off and kill the one person he chose to turn and was waiting to turn. you pissed him off so bad he threatened you, and it leaves you scared for your life. but come on, you were just hungry, you cant be at fault here. he KNOWS you cant be at fault, he acknowledged that you were young, inexperienced, hungry. you did nothing wrong. you're just the victim here. split number three.
someone you did trust, even if the guys you aligned yourself with hurt her, killed your pet in front of you. took his life, his innocent little life. such a silly thing to be so upset over but thats split number four. nothing is real. this cant be real. you did nothing wrong, you weren't the one who hurt her. the same people people who hurt her also hurt you, how can you be in the wrong here? your pig is dead, you're dead, the people you thought you could trust dont trust you and hurt you. its all falling apart, and you're the one in the wrong here??
and now this little asshole, who started out screaming about monsters and vampires, waltzes in and starts cozying up to the guy who hurt you, the guy you are currently using. the one you worked your ass off to get to trust you, and this annoying little bug comes in and tries to take what you worked so fucking hard for?? what does he have that you don't? hes so weak and annoying, and you feel so threatened by his mere existence because it could topple everything you built here. split number four. you kill him.
what does it matter? drag him to his death, take your time, hammer the stake in his heart and listen to his screams. it doesn't matter, nothing is real. you're all dead. the other guy you brought with you also hates him, its a win win. it gets your spot back, saves everything you tried to built. and its fine, because none of this is real, and this is the murder you can confidently say you committed. you dont need the guy who killed you anymore. you have another strong ally now, one who is willing to help hurt those trying to break all that you have left. and its not real right? this will end soon. who needs to be worried about sires when you have allies and the fresh thrill of taking someones life. this isnt reality because you split from reality a long time ago.
even though the original intention might have been pyro genuinely being framed for something he didnt do, it all fell so nicely in our laps, tied up with a neat little bow. everything fell so naturally, especially with the weird, twitchy, and suspicious vibes that pyro just oozes. hes such a little liar, and he was so giddy about messing with people. he was so giddy about killing avid too, like he was just waiting for the moment where he could snap. the narrative fits together so fucking well i cant stop thinking about it. when pyro said that it was all just a nightmare to vpyro, it was like a lightbulb just went off in my empty little head.
and he played it so fuckjing well too?? like it was such a shock to the system as someone who wasn't paying that much attention to him. im a scott main first and an avid enjoyer second (unrelated to avidscott, i just gravitated towards them in the beginning, the avidscott is a bonus), so pyros behavior was seen as self preserving and downright embarrassing at best from first glance. to see a side of pyro i was not expecting, even when i joked that pyro definitely killed that guy, was absolutely brilliant. unreliable narrator tricking us into seeing a "loss of innocence" arc with a guy who just wants to survive only to end up fooling everything in the long run. its what i want to see. i mean i know scotts manipulating the narrative to come out on top but pyro manipulating the narrative just to keep a mask over his own mental instability? top tier. good shit. the mask is crumbling around him i cannot wait to see his finale.
jack von pyroscythe you are so fascinating to me. i want to eat you. i want to gnaw on you like a chew toy, scruff you like a misbehaving kitten and drop kick you into the ocean.
