Writing Tips - Why I Don't Use Character Profiles.

Read Mikey Campling’s piece a few hours ago and I found it so relatable! I wanted to respond in that moment but I was taking my son to a doctor’s appointment and couldn’t. Anyway, now that I have a second… I also hate filling out forms. (Like, really hate.) And character profiles may work for some people, but they definitely don’t work for me. I enjoy getting to know my characters. And every time I think I have someone figured out, I discover a side of them I didn’t even know existed. (Although to be fair, none of their sides exist because they’re fictional.) Anyway, I went through this recently with a certain TVM character. At first, I loved them. Then, I hated them. Now, I love them again, but for totally different reasons than before. This process is admittedly weird, and may not work for some, but it definitely works for me.

Shout-out to Lenore over at Celebrity Readers for what is arguably the most spot-on review of Armored I've ever read. There's so much I got wrong with my first book, and this review articulated it in a way that I haven't seen before. The short of it is, I gave someone a lot of money to edit my book. As you can see, I got (rhymes with "hammed"). That said, I take full responsibility for the bad and the good in my first novel. One time my mom made the mistake of asking to read TVM. Instead of simply replying no, I shut my laptop and damn near tried to throw it out a window. My mom was like: 👀 Then I awkwardly smiled and said she was too young and maybe she could read it when she’s older.
