O fuck
Ok so like i get buying reptiles from petsmart/co is like a sin for you idiots but like you’re literally saving those animals…if its so bad for those animals then fucking get them out??? Its not you supporting petsmart/co…its you recognizing that this reptile deserves better??? (Any animal from them really) so like stop being a pretentious asshole???
it really isn’t pretentious if when you buy one you support three others replacing it but ok
For real though… you’re buying one animal for then to replace it with more. Its cutting the heads off a hydra. You’re literally contributing to animal abuse. Willingly.
At that point, youre just buying these animals to make yourself feel good about “rescuing” and you need to find a legit rescue and not keep funding the very problem in the hobby.
So what can you do instead when you run into a poorly run petco/smart? Talk to management, call corporate, but most importantly stop buying their damn livestock that will just be replaced by another poorly cared for, sick animal.
Supply and demand folks; basic economics.
If you are buying from them you are supporting the bad stores, not rescuing.
I mean people by dogs from animal shelters all the time and shelters can be really terrible and cruel to dogs just as easily but if i buy from a shelter im “supporting” them right??? so why not just go to a dog breeder right??? No because its literally the same concept. Just like when you buy shelter dogs they’re just gonna put another one in the kennel so like wtf are you talking about?????????
Several things wrong with that-
First off is your fundamental ignorance of capitalism and how business in the US operate. Petsmart/co are a business. They are a business chain. They sell items and animals for profit. If an item they sell makes money, they will keep selling it. See how that works? If you buy an animal, the higher ups aren’t going to go know that you bought it out of pity and self-righteousness. They’re going to see that live animals still generate profit and continue selling them.
Shelters are largely non profit organizations. Dogs are in shelters because they were abounded or surrendered. So yes, as long as people continue to surrender or abandon their dogs, there will be dogs in shelters. Your point makes a grand total of zero sense and doesn’t relate to anything you said before.
...Hello
Last Thursday (March 22), I tried using my card for a $5 meal but it was declined. I checked my account online to find someone had used my card exclusively at shoe stores/websites (March 20th and March 22nd) and I had no money. This was incredibly disheartening, so I went to my bank to dispute the charges. They said since I caught the payments as so early, (they were still being processed) I could go ahead and sign for the payments made that day (22nd). On Saturday (24th), the bank and said the payments made the 20th were returned to my account. So all I had to do now was wait for the 22nd amounts to return to my bank. ~~~~~~~ Here we are a week later (the 29th), and I’m BACK to square one. The 20th payments were fully processed (on the 26th). No one at my bank called to inform me. I was furious but by the time I drove to the bank, I was exhausted. I may transfer banks soon, but I’m hoping to get the money returned beforehand. So now I have no credit card, nothing in my bank account, very little cash, and I got bills coming soon (the 1st). I’m also expected to travel to Washington D.C. to assist my uncle and aunt with my adopted cousins (April 14th-28th). I need to come up with money for my bird-sitter as my part time job isn’t helping me fast enough.
I’m reaching out to ask you to share this post, reblog it, boost it, if you feel so inclined, please donate. My links are below:
Ko-fi // Patreon // Paypal
Hopefully, my bank gets my money back in time of my departure, but in the meantime, I would be very grateful to all of you, whether you share, donate, or even leave an encouraging note. I will consider opening a small crowdfunding page or even my digital commissions after April 1st if this doesn’t raise my minimum just to pay my bird-sitter.
Here is my favorite photo of my half-moon conure, Grinch. He will stop whatever he’s doing to attack the scrubber brush I use to clean his cage. His favorite song is Super Bass by Nicki Minaj and he will sing to it (not very well, but he knows the rhythm). He blesses himself when he sneezes. He’s fascinated with flinging LEGO pieces. His nicknames include “Green Taco,” “Mighty Falcon,”“Baby Avocado,” and “Loud Banana.” He’s a bitty bitey boy but I love him.
Many thanks,
Bees
Net Neutrality is Dead and You Can Expect Your Internet to Change on April 23rd
Yeah, no, I’m cross-tagging because the lack of attention this is getting overall is pissing me off.
Ajit Pai killed Net Neutrality. You’ll start seeing the effects you were warned about on April 23rd. Oh, and he apparently got an award for Courage from the NRA gun nuts, too.
You can still help by calling your senators and representatives. We just need ONE MORE PERSON on our side to get the senate portion of Congress to overrule the FCC’s decision to kill net neutrality. The battle for the net won’t end there, but it’s a start. Go to battleforthenet to find out who your reps are and where they stand, and CONTACT THEM.
Twenty-three states are also suing the FCC for this. I haven’t looked into it yet, but I assume big businesses like Google and Amazon are as well. Nevertheless, we can’t rely on lengthy lawsuits alone. The changes to your internet start in less than two months. We don’t have a whole lot of time.
Blow this up. Contact your reps. Please, do something! We HAVE to get the decision overruled!
Your pride is not more important than your animals
If someone tells you what you are doing can be done better, you should look into it.
If multiple people are telling you, you need to look into it.
Keeping animals changes when new information is found. A good keeper understands this and changes their practices to improve.
It’s OKAY to be wrong. It happens. It’s NOT okay to continue being wrong for the sake of your ego or to prove something to others.
Can you please reblog if your blog is a safe place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, asexual, aromantic, pansexual, non binary, demisexual or any other kind of queer or questioning people? Because mine is.
I'm thinking about using Reptile Prime for my substrate. I've heard really good things about it. One big positive is it keeps humanity. Do you have any thoughts? (I know it is sold by Brian B. but I'm hoping that doesn't make it terrible.)
Reptile prime is essentially an overpriced, uncompressed version of eco earth, which is a type of coco coir. As mentioned in previous asks, I am not a fan of the powdery coconut as it becomes dry and dusty quickly. I’d also just venture to say it’s best to avoid anything that might put money in that man’s pocket, until he can show us his husbandry is correct and he cares more about the welbeing of his animals that views.
Can I just say that I’m extremely disapointed in people? As most of you know I’m an animal lover and an aspiring Reptile Breeder. I watch Brian Barczyk’s vlogs and I look up to him as a reptile breeder. So, as I got bored I decided to look up his name on Tumblr to see some cool stuff but instead there were countless amounts of people hating on him and BHB and I am just disappointed. I saw maybe two or three good things about him and it upset me greatly. Half of the things these people were saying are also completely false, like get your facts straight people! Now I’m not saying that he is perfect or that everything he does is right because yes people make mistakes but it’s a matter of how y'all shouldn’t be posting about how he shouldn’t be allowed to own animals because that is just cruel. And yes you can have you’re opinions but be classy about it, he doesn’t deserve all this hate. Now I might be slightly biased because that is someone I look up to and want to be like but at least I have my facts straight. Damn.
Are you seeing this? With your own two eyes? Do you see the mouth rot? The bubbling drool dripping from it’s mouth? This snake is incredibly sick. And what does Brian do? Takes a selfie with it
If you think that any…ANY of these appallingly small enclosures are acceptable…that the literally gallons of piss and shit that line each measly tub is ok…then I think you seriously need to reconsider your husbandry standards.
Brian is a menace to the herptile hobby. His" passion" slaughters animals in droves.
I am really sorry, OP, but your opinions are dangerous. You should not look up to BHB reptiles, even if you have watched the show in the past. I used to watch it, too, and my initial reaction was exactly this: “OH COOL! I can keep a pet in a tiny tub! What a space-saver!” And that is the dangerous point of view that is extremely harmful to reptiles. Because he is well-known, a lot of people accept that what he says must be true… And it’s not. As I researched, I found that this method of husbandry was severely damaging, and now all my snakes are in large tubs with a lot of enrichment. And I can almost guarantee that the retic in his recent selfie will soon be the subject of a ‘my poor snake died’ video. When a snake is so sick you can see it, and he’s not doing anything to help it, it’s not long for this world.
Important note- OP is only sixteen, which means she maybe hasn’t had much reptile experience and maybe hasn’t seen examples of decent care- either way, don’t dogpile. That’s not how you change minds.
Unfortunately, the normal method of presenting facts and suffering animals isn’t working here. OP- please look more into reptile keeping. Anybody who claims to be the face of a hobby has an angle. Brian wants you to buy his animals and his product line. His bottom line is money, not animal care. Some people get into this hobby for love, and maybe he did at one time- but at this point, how can he claim to love those animals he treats so horribly? Why would anyone look up to such paltry care? Why not be better?
Side note: Are those drawers not for simulating periods of hibernation? I know it’s better to not have most reptiles hibernate at all when kept as pets because it can be tricky and they don’t actually need to hibernate to be healthy, they just do it to stay alive when it’s too cold out. INside your house, it can always be optimal for them and that’s best. But do some people not still hibernate their reptiles? Especially if they run large facilities with them? Can this not be a part of decent enough animal care? Also another side note: The people criticizing him are likely right but… Do we know for sure that selfie was not taken with a snake he had just taken custody of in some small victory to get a chance to nurse it back to health? Like, have we confirmed all of these pictures aren’t being taken out of context? I’m not meaning to challenge the criticism, I’m genuinely checking, and asking for information.
No, those animals live full time in those drawers. Ball pythons do not hibernate. Neither do savannah monitors, like the obese specimen in that drawer. If you look into it and watch literally any of his videos, you’ll see that those are the only homes those animals ever have in his care. Brian doesn’t rescue animals or nurse them back to health. That snake of his is either the second or third Sunshine- he keeps getting big burms and they die because he treats them like shit.
Net Neutrality
CONGRATULATIONS, everybody! We only have 10 days to fight the FCC & the repeal of #NetNeutrality!
Thanks to John Oliver there’s a SUPER easy way to do this Do you enjoy Netflix? Do you find yourself spending too much time on FB? If net neutrality goes away, our Internet bills go up and we give power to companies like Comcast and Spectrum.
Here’s what you can do - takes less than a minute: 1. Go to gofccyourself.com (the shortcut John Oliver made to the hard-to-find FCC comment page) 2. Click on the 17-108 link (Restoring Internet Freedom) 2. Click on “express” 3. Be sure to hit “ENTER” after you put in your name & info so it registers. 4. In the comment section write, “I strongly support net neutrality backed by Title 2 oversight of ISPs.” 5. Click to submit, done. - Make sure you hit submit at the end! **Feel free to share this**

This is a long shot, but I figure I’ll try.
My cats are in danger. I’ve posted a little about it, but here’s the summary: Yesterday, 12/1/17, my abusive father called me to tell me he’s tired of having 4 cats in the house (2 are mine, 1 is my brother’s and the remaining cat was the family/my dead brother’s cat). He proceeded to graphically describe the horrific, painful, bloody deaths he wanted to give them. But then tell me, in typical manipulative abusive fashion, that he “just couldn’t do it, because it would be like killing a part of [me].” I said I would try and find a home for them ASAP. I do not trust this man. I do not think they are in a safe place. I am constantly worried about their safety but I live ¾ of the way across the country and have no way to get there, get them, and bring them safely to me. My apartment complex has a pet limit, and we’ve hit it. Even if we hadn’t, there’s no way I could scrounge up the money for me to retrieve them AND $1000 in pet fees/deposits AND comprehensive vet checks to ensure they’re ok.
But wait, you think, if I knew he was such a horrible human being, why are my cats living with them? Short answer is, I didn’t know that he was such a vile, disgusting person as to threaten the health and safety of innocent animals that have never done anything to him. When I originally left my cats at my parent’s house, my parents were still married and mom took care of them. When they got divorced, my mom refused to take the cats (because it was inconvenient for her), but my dad had a girlfriend that loves cats, so I felt like they were safe. They’ve broken up, I’ve been in a really tight spot financially and I can’t figure out if this is an attempt to further control my life, or get back at her. Both, maybe. My mom now lives with her fiance, who has a husky who thinks cats are food and they’re about to get a puppy. Neither cat does well with dogs.
This is my plea: If you are in the Northern Connecticut/Hartford Area and would be willing to adopt one, or both, of my fuzzy boys please let me know. They’re both wonderful, loving cats and they don’t deserve this.
This is Tiger. I adopted him as a kitten in 2008, so he should be around 10 years old this coming year. He is neutered and is absolutely an indoor only cat (he is literally scared of the sky, the few times he has darted out the door because the other cats talked him into it, he would run off the porch, look up, and run back on the porch and hide under the porch chairs and yell until someone came to get him). He does not have a microchip. As you can see, he needs to go on a diet. He’s a loud, whiny drama king that likes to follow people into the bathroom so that you have to pet him while you’re on the toilet. He isn’t a fan of new situations so I expect that he would take some time to warm up to a new home. I think he would be happy in either a home where he’s the only cat OR in a home where there are other cats. He’s never lived with dogs. He prefers to typically lay NEXT to you (but touching) than on you (thank goodness because that’s a lot of cat). Tiger will pat at you with one of his paws when it’s time to pet him, and he purrs like a motor. He is not up to date on shots or vet checks or anything like that. The last one he had was most likely when I brought him last, in 2013, prior to having to leave him at my parent’s house because I was in provided housing for internship where I wasn’t allowed to have pets. I haven’t been in a situation where I could take him myself, and my parents don’t see the point in bringing a cat to the vet.
This is Mumford. I adopted him in 2012. I think he’s about 6-8 years old. He is neutered and has been an indoor cat. He does have a microchip. Mumford is a super chill cat that does like to snuggle right in your lap. My dad’s girlfriend used to scoop him into the baby hold and walk around cradling him while he purred loudly in her arms. He loves people. Absolutely loves them. He would be most happy in a multi-cat household. He snuggles with the other cats and grooms them. When I brought Mumford home, Tiger had been an only cat for about a month. This was, apparently, enough time for Tiger to get adjusted to being an only cat and he threw a hissy fit and wouldn’t even stay on opposite sides of the bed as him for 9 months. Mumford, on the other hand, was ready to be bros for life from day 1. When Mumford was introduced to the 2 other cats they now live with, he again transitioned smoothly and with grace. He is a sweet boy that wants to jump on your back and lay down while you’re bent over to tie your shoes. He gives little love nips to let you know if it’s time to stop petting him. Again, He is not up to date on shots or vet checks or anything like that. The last one he had was most likely when I brought him last, in 2013 prior to having to leave him at my parent’s house because I was in provided housing for internship where I wasn’t allowed to have pets. I haven’t been in a situation where I could take him myself, and my parents don’t see the point in bringing a cat to the vet.
These are 2 incredibly sweet boys who deserve a safe, loving home where they are wanted. I’m stuck in a horrible position, where my hands are essentially tied and there’s not much that I can do except hope that someone, somewhere, will be willing to take them in. I would consider splitting them up, mostly because Tiger does seem like he would be very happy to be an only cat with a human that would dote on him. I don’t know that they’ll come with anything, even carriers. I used to have 2 large, roomy, hard-sided carriers for them but I don’t know if my dad still has them or not. I just want them somewhere safe and loved.
Please, feel free to share this around and please message me if you’re interested or have any questions.

Imagine paying $40 extra a month for Tumblr
That’s what is going to happen if we let Ajit Pai, the FCC chairman, go through with repealing Title II (AKA Net Neutrality).
Simply put, without Net Neutrality, Internet Service Providers like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T will be able to “bundle” websites much like cable ON TOP OF paying for internet connection. “Want access to Netflix AND Tumblr? Get the Entertainment Package! $40 a month. What about Amazon and Ebay? Add an extra $20 a month to get the Shopping Package.”
Not only will they be able to bundle websites and charge more, they will also be able to censor and block websites that they don’t agree with entirely.
THIS WILL BE THE END OF INTERNET AS WE KNOW IT.
For business owners, it will be even worse. Ex: Comcast will ask Amazon to pay high fees to be available in a low-cost package, fees that websites like Poshmark or Etsy will not be able to pay. Therefore, only Fortune 500’s will be available to web users at a low cost. Say goodbye to Etsy (unless you’re willing to shell out $70 a month for the “All-Inclusive” package).
To learn about Net Neutrality, why it’s important, and/or want tools to help you fight for Net Neutrality, visit BattleForTheNet (https://www.battleforthenet.com)
There are five people deciding the future of the internet, three men (Rep) and two women (Dem). The two women have come out as No votes. We need only to convince ONE of the other members to flip to a NO vote to save Net Neutrality.

This could be your last chance to stop ISPs from messing up your Internet!

WE HAVE ONE WEEK LEFT TO FIGHT THIS PLEASE HURRY! This is the URL to enter your phone number to call Congress and ask them to repeal. We NEED to fight this people!

I can’t tell if this is real or just a very surreal meme.
Unfortunately this is real.
It’s been moved to Dec 22. We now have more than a month to continue fighting. I’ve already gotten in contact with my reps and unfortunately only one of them gives a damn. I have informed the others I will considering their replacements when the time roles around. For those who think that does nothing, thats what they what you to think. Telling your reps that you will not vote for them in the coming elections DOES scare them. Call your reps and tell them.
PLEASE DO THIS! THIS IS OUR ONLY CHANCE TO STOP THEM!
I know for a fact I’d freeze up on the phone and I don’t see an option for signing my name for support, so I’ll give this a reblog for any of my followers who can handle this sort of call.
Maybe unpopular opinion but
Forcing solitary animals to live with another of their species is just as bad as depriving social/shoaling/schooling animals of companionship.
I see too many people on facebook go into snake groups, post a picture of their obviously sick snake, and say “The vet is not an option, how do I cure this” NO You do NOT get a pet and say the vet is not an option. You chose to get an animal, and animal does not get to chose its owner. As such YOU are responsible for the life of that animal and you NEED to get it vet treatment whether you like it or not.
+1 adding additional rant to this post, If you are unwilling to bring your animal to the vet when your animal is sick/injured, you should not have the animal. Simple as that. Even if there is a real reason, “tight on money”, “can’t afford”, “I really really REALLY can’t afford, but I really wish I could, I’m so sad”, etc… you should not be owning the pet, and you need to rehome it to someone who can care for it.
“But I do care for it, I take really good care of it!! I just can’t afford the vet!” If you can’t bring your animal to the vet when it’s needed, it means you can’t and aren’t caring for it.
It is the owner’s responsibility and job to be able to support their animal in any and every way, and YES, ANIMALS COST MONEY TO CARE FOR. Sicknesses and injuries cost even more money to cure. If you are tight on money and can’t bring your pet to the vet when unfortunate illness/injuries happen, you should not be owning a pet.
I’ve even seen: “I just let mother nature take over. In the wild, there’s no vet.” What you are doing, sir, is actually something called animal abuse.
Loving/caring for an animal means knowing when you’re incapable of providing it with the care that it needs and giving it to someone who is financially able to care for it properly.
Simply loving your pet does not make you a good, responsible, or caring owner.
If you “can’t afford” proper housing, vet care, high quality food, a stable environment (i.e. one that is relatively quiet and does not move constantly, in many cases highly noisy environments stress most animals to the degree that it will negatively affect their behavior and health), or proper environmental enrichment (depending on the animal this means toys, hides, climbs, decorations, lighting, etc…), you should not have the pet and you cannot claim you care about them as, if you did, you would not keep them in subpar conditions or deny them medical care when it’s necessary.
It is not your right to have a pet, pets are a privilege/luxury, and they require that you have enough disposable income and stability to care for them properly.
So are there any morphs that are actually worth $20-35K?
Those prices are business investment prices, not meant for a hobby breeder or standard keeper. It’s hard for me to even comprehend spending that money on any snake because it’s not in the realm of possibilities for me.
I'm not a breeder or anything but the only snakes I've seen that push that kind of price are scaleless.
If any of you have any messages for any of my reptiles, I would be happy to pass them along
They don’t speak English but I think they’ll get it
I don't really have a message or anything but give them a big fat smooch on the snooter for me 😘
