hey netizens! i'm not sure how many people are aware, but youtube's been slowly rolling out a new anti-adblock policy that can't be bypassed with the usual software like uBlock Origin and Pi-Hole out of the gate
BUT, if you're a uBlock Origin user (or use an adblocker with a similar cosmetics modifier), you can add these commands in the uBlock dashboard (under My Filters) to get rid of it!
youtube.com##+js(set, yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0) youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, []) youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

The symbolism of flowers
Flowers have a long history of symbolism that you can incorporate into your writing to give subtext.
Symbolism varies between cultures and customs, and these particular examples come from Victorian Era Britain. You'll find examples of this symbolism in many well-known novels of the era!

masks and helmets that hides someone's face in such a way that they become the face themselves my beloved
these are all creatures to me
Angel of War, angular and strange, gleaming silver and gold, Angel of Wonder, pure and one-eyed, looking to stars new and old, Angel of Harvest, simple and hidden, bring nature's sweetness to all, Angel of Health, mysterious and fine, beacon when life starts to fall, Angel of the Deep, crooked and cage-like, guide us across the sea, Angel of Solace, protect us from evil, lead us to where we are free.
(image description:) a phrase - angels of - followed by bright-on-black drawings of helmet-covered faces of: a knight captioned as war, an astronaut captioned as wonder, a medieval beekeeper captioned as harvest, a plague doctor captioned as health, an old-fashined diver captioned as the deep, a gasmasked person captioned as solace (/end description)
a quick fanart to the concept; do you think a motorcyclist and a person in a surgical mask and cap may join these ranks?
TIL in 1915, San Diego hired a “rain maker” who used a secret mix of chemicals to “attract rain” for $10,000, payable if he filled their reservoir. It rained for most of January, destroying bridges, dams, and causing 20 deaths.

that was the Devil
I mean they wanted rain
His name was Charles Hatfield and I’m not saying that you shouldn’t make a deal with him, but I am saying that you should be very clear about the terms and conditions
I think we need to fully appreciate the fact that the reason he “looks like the Devil” is that many depictions of the Devil in American popular media are specifically caricatures of this guy. Like, imagine being a con man and fucking up your hustle so badly that for more than a century afterwards people start drawing the Devil to look like you.
monarchy has no real purpose and should be abolished irl but im a slut for royal families in fiction. the politics. the intrigue. families divided by the eyes of a nation. the pressure of children told from birth that they are born to rule, born for only one purpose. the stifling of empathy and real bonds and love. the loneliness when all eyes are on you. it’s so inherently tragic and yet everyone involved is terrible because that’s all they can be. gimme.
Hey! Are there blacksmiths in your story? I'm a hobbyist blacksmith and I'm here to help!
Blacksmithing is one of those things that a lot of people get wrong because they don't realize it stuck around past the advent of the assembly line. Here's a list of some common misconceptions I see and what to do instead!
Not all blacksmiths are gigantic terrifying muscly guys with beards and deep voices. I am 5'8, skinny as a twig, have the muscle mass of wet bread, and exist on Tumblr. Anybody who is strong enough to pick up a hammer and understands fire safety can be a blacksmith.
You can make more than just swords with blacksmithing. Though swords are undeniably practical, they're not the only things that can be made. I've made candle holders, wall hooks, kebab skewers, fire pokers, and more. Look up things other people have made, it's really amazing what can be done.
"Red-hot" is actually not that hot by blacksmith terms. when heated up, the metal goes from black, to red, to orange, to yellow, to white. (for temperature reference, I got a second degree burn from picking up a piece of metal on black heat) The ideal color to work with the metal is yellow. White is not ideal at all, because the metal starts sparking and gets all weird and lumpy when it cools. (At no point in this process does the metal get even close to melting. It gets soft enough to work with, but I have never once seen metal become a liquid.)
Blacksmithing takes fucking forever. Not even taking into account starting the forge, selecting and preparing metal, etc. etc. it takes me around an hour to make one (1) fancy skewer. The metals blacksmiths work with heat up and cool down incredibly fast. When the forge is going good, it only takes like 20 seconds to get your metal hot enough to work with, but it takes about the same time for it to cool down, sometimes even less.
As long as you are careful, it is actually stupidly easy to not get hurt while blacksmithing. When I picked up this hobby I was like "okay, cool! I'm gonna make stuff, and I'm gonna end up in the hospital at some point!" Thus far, the latter has yet to occur. I've been doing this for nearly a year. I have earned myself a new scar from the aforementioned second degree burn, and one singe mark on my jeans. I don't even wear gloves half the time. Literally just eye protection, common sense, and fast reflexes and you'll probably be fine. (Accidents still happen of course, but I have found adequate safety weirdly easy to achieve with this hobby)
A forge is not a fire. The forge is the thing blacksmiths put their metal in to heat it up. It starts as a small fire, usually with newspaper or something else that's relatively small and burns easily, which we then put in the forge itself, which is sort of a fireplace-esque thing (there's a lot of different types of forge, look into it and try to figure out what sort of forge would make the most sense for the context you're writing about) and we cover it with coal, which then catches fire and heats up. The forge gets really hot, and sometimes really bright. Sometimes when I stare at the forge for too long it's like staring into the sun. The forge is also not a waterfall of lava, Steven Universe. It doesn't work like that, Steven Universe.
Welding and blacksmithing are not the same thing. They often go hand-in-hand, but you cannot connected two pieces of metal with traditional blacksmithing alone. There is something called forge welding, where you heat your metal, sprinkle borax (or the in-universe equivalent) on it to prevent the metal from oxidizing/being non-weldable, and hammer the pieces together very quickly. Forge welding also sends sparks flying everywhere, and if you're working in a small space with other blacksmiths, you usually want to announce that you're welding before you do, so that everyone in a five-foot radius can get out of that five-foot radius. You also cannot just stuck some random pebbles into the forge and get a decent piece of metal that you can actually make something with, Steven Universe. It doesn't work like that, Steven Universe.
Anvils are really fucking heavy. Nothing else to add here.
Making jewelry is not a blacksmithing thing unless you want jewelry made of steel. And it will be very ugly if you try. Blacksmithing wasn't invented to make small things.
If there's anything here I didn't mention, just ask and I'll do my best to answer.
Glad they gave me this in four different fonts so I can select the vibes I want to cry to
Terra is bleak and all but sometimes you have people like Utage who are just having a fuckin’ blast like
Utage: “Awww man I’m going to get sent to this BORING and STUFFY institute for oripathy patients or something… That’s LAME.”
Mamatage: “Utage, my baby, I’m worried you might get bullied at Rhodes Island! So I’m giving you the Shishio Blade, our family heirloom, so people think twice before picking on you!”
Utage: “Holy slugs, sweet, I got Mom’s cool sword! Maybe this won’t be so bad after a–”
Human Resources Director: “Hey, that’s a sweet sword you got there! Doctor, check out this girl’s sweet sword!”
Doctor: “Now, I’ve seen some sweet swords in my time, and that? That’s definitely up there in the saccharine blade scale. Wanna use that on real people and get paid for it?”
Utage:
Utage: “DOES THE POPE SHIT IN THE WOODS? I’m in, mysterious hooded personage of intrigue!”
Doctor: “Dope, meet your fellow squadmates!”
Hellagur: *doing sick odachi iai*
Schwarz: *running up walls and landing midair bullseyes*
Hoshiguma, Specter and Blaze: *having an intense 3-way saw showdown as warm-up, sparks flying everywhere*
Ptilopsis: *torrenting Minecraft skins*
Utage: “I’m so glad I contracted a deadly disease!”
i love how everyone who steps foot in the riverlands goes back in time. i love how robb returns to northern independence, how arya searches for rhaegar's rubies and sees the village hoster tully burnt and meets two of robert's rebellion era bastards. love how catelyn comes to riverrun only to uncover 17 year old truths. how the blackfish returns only to hear about that redwyne girl again, this girl who remains a jilted bride solely within riverrun's walls, haunting enough to drive brynden away. LOVE LOVE LOVE that brienne's journey through the riverlands starts with seeing hyle hunt and randyll in maidenpool, hearkening to the first time we see her but it turns out that beginning was actually an ending. dick crabb and how everything about cracklaw point exists in the past. the vengeance of aerys targaryen in duskendale, dunk's shield, the haunted elder brother in the saltpans, seeing RENLY'S GHOST at the inn at the crossroad. love jaime with every reminder that splits him in two - his sexy harrenhal reveal sixteen years too late, his fever dream, the smiling knight the mountain of my youth and arthur dayne dubbing him once, aerys twice. pretty pia and the blackfish whose eyes have been on him for years and years. the blackwood bracken feud that transcends time. love that funky lil liminal space.
THE KINGS AND QUEENS WHO NEVER WERE
sskk is so insane there is nothing normal about them. akutagawa tried to sell atsushi to americans on the black market and has torn his limbs off and impaled him countless times. atsushi put akutagawa in a coma. akutagawa made it his life goal to kill atsushi because dazai said atsushi’s ability is cooler than his. he desperately wants dazai’s approval and has decided somehow killing dazai’s new best friend will contribute to this. atsushi uses akutagawa’s trauma from dazai to taunt him. akutagawa, wanted mass murderer, agreed to not kill anyone for six months because atsushi told him he wasn’t allowed to try and kill him anymore otherwise. atsushi wears akutagawa’s clothes to beat up bad guys. they’re the cutest ship in the series. they’re the most violent ship in the series. they have matching color schemes.
bsd chapter 108 is so funny though atsushi pleading for akutagawa to wake up and in any other manga it would be like "i know this isn't who you are!!!! you didn't kill that girl because she reminds you of your sister when she was young!" but in bsd it's like "you WOULD kill a little girl even if you weren't a vampire but you didn't because you want to prove ME wrong"
i think it makes sense for aegon iii to choose to marry daenaera when you disregard all the obvious after-the-fact explanations that she was the Sexiest Six Year Old Girl To Ever Grace These Halls. he is very traumatized and touch averse and lacks any desire to ever be intimate or close with pretty much anyone (which is completely within his rights). if he chose someone his age or older (and he’s only like 13 at this point) he would have been essentially forced to impregnate her asap by the monarchical industrial complex. which he really does not want. if he chooses a six year old he then gets 8-10 years where he has absolutely no obligation to touch her whatsoever (+ it ends up being 10 years for them, ultimately). also he would get to stick it to unwin peake who he hates by doing this which is a win. also i think there would naturally be a bit of trust there when his sisters were the ones who presented her (otherwise he couldve chosen any random six year old). hence. i think it’s perfectly in character idk
And after the murder of Jaehaera and having his regents tear at him like dogs with one bloody bone, Aegon had every reason /not/ to want to sire a child before he reached his majority.
If he fathered a son, there was every expectation that an 'accident' would be arranged for him so his regents could extend their power for another sixteen years.
Marrying Daenaera cuts off that possibility.
He would be three years as king in his own right before there was even a remote chance of consummation and the marriage could be easily set aside if need be later on down the line.
Add the fact his sisters were about the only family he had left at that point, he would put faith in their judgment.
