Valuable lesson learned at a call today: When you plug in your phone charger, make sure the cord is not caught between the plug and the outlet. And always call 9-1-1 if you see smoke or flames where they aren’t supposed to be. If a small grease fire starts in a pan, put a lid on it and turn off the heat. Don’t move the pan or the lid until the pan has cooled. If a fire starts in your oven, keep the door closed and turn off the heat. Don’t open the door until it has cooled. We often get calls to our office saying, “My carbon monoxide alarm is beeping but i don’t smell anything and I don’t want to make a fuss and bother the fire department. Can you come and check it out?” Our answer is always, “Call 911 and get out of your home.” Remember that you can’t smell, see, or taste CO, your alarm is your only indicator that something may be wrong. If it’s starts sounding, get everyone outside to fresh air and call 911. CO is an emergency and is a legitimate reason to call 911.
