6 Year Old Buried Alive in Dunes & Survives

Nathan Woessner, 6 fell in a sink hole at Mt Baldy at the Indiana Dunes National Park on Friday and was for 3 hours literally buried in the sand. This would be as close as one could come to an avalanche type experience without the snow. According to reports he was flown out to Comer Children's Hospital from St. Anthony's in Michigan City that evening and remains in serious condition, and still on a respirator.

Chicago Native, Twinkies Coming Back

Twinkies are coming back as early as Friday to Walmart shelves. Twinkies were pulled off shelves with the rest of the hostess brand when the union workers stood their ground against owners. The snack cake company was sold off at bankruptcy court and bought by new owners. Hostess was bought by Apollo Group Management, who while they don't want to reinvent the Twinkies, do not want to be portrayed as an unhealthy snack. So will this relaunch live up to all the hype, only time will tell.

George Zimmerman Found Not Guilty

George Zimmerman was found not guilty by a Florida jury of his peers. The aftermath of the trial has many in this country asking how can this happen. We here at Windy City Gazette do not want, and have not wanted to get to deep into this trial, but we would like to hear from you. Do you think that this trial was fair? Do you think that the jury got the verdict right? While Zimmerman can't be charged again criminally, he could face civil charges, and may have to pay make financial restitution to the family, do you think this would be a good idea?

Glee Star Cory Monteith, 31 dies in Vancouver Hotel Room

Cory Monteith, 31 was found deceased in a Vancouver hotel hours after coming in from a night out with friends. The cleaning crew found Cory when he didn't check out from his hotel room and around noon they went to clean his room.  The key cause of his passing his still unknown but fowl play has been ruled out.

Dave Matthews Band Fan 'Rescues' Star From Side of Road

Emily Kraus and her boyfriend were on their way to a Dave Matthews Band concert in Hershey, Pa., on Saturday when they noticed a person stranded on the side of the road. They pulled over only to have Dave Matthews, who had been riding his bike when it broke down before the show, throw his bike on their bike rack and climb into the back seat.

Super Glue Credited with Saving Life of Baby

Ashlyn Julian was born healthy on May 16, and released home to be with her family. At about 10 days old, her parents noticed there was an issue when she was frequently sleeping and hard to rouse for feedings. Then, her parents said, she went from a quiet and sleepy baby to one that was screaming and throwing up too often. Gina Julian, the baby's mother said "At that point we knew something was very wrong."

"The Perks of Being a Wallflower" Back in Chicago-Area School

Helicopter Crash at Lansing, IL Airport

At 6:45 pm on Monday evening a training excises went wrong at Lansing airport at a helicopter suffered a minor crash landing. The two people on board refused any medical treatment.

Griffith, Indiana, Animal Shelter NOT closing

We're sure that some of our readers (and animal lovers!) have seen the post in regards to the Griffith Animal Shelter in Griffith, Indiana is closing, which read:

"ALERT! Griffith Animal Control is closing its doors. This facility has had cats in cages for some time. No one comes to adopt from them as no one seems to know they have adoptable animals and they have just left the cats in these cages - cleaning litter boxes and feeding, water - but that is about it. Last Friday they told volunteers they were closing the building and all animals not rescued would be euthanized. These animals include 3 dogs and 12/13 cats - all with shots, all spayed/neutered. These include many sweet, adoptable animals that need our help! Please band together and share this information with your friends, and see if we can get all of these animals saved! We don't have much time, so we need to work quickly!!!"

We wanted to reach out to our viewers as soon as we heard, our understanding was that there are about 5 dogs and up to 13 cats. So we reposted it, thinking that there was no harm in getting the word out.

While the situation is urgent, as these animals need to be adopted - we have learned that the animal control shelter will not be closing. It appears a volunteer was trying to create a sense of urgency in getting the animals adopted, as they have been there for awhile, but there is no evidence to support that they are actually closing their doors. We have not had a chance to speak with the shelter, yet. However, if you know of any rescue groups or are friends and family that might be able to offer these animals a forever home, please contact Griffith Animal Control 219-922-1766.

Chicago Makeup Show Comes to Town

                          Attention Makeup enthusiests and artists alike. The biggest Makeup Show in the widwest will be in Chicago June 9-10, if you don't have your tickets yet please visit here.  The Makeup Show is a pro-driven industry event open to those individuals and companies involved in beauty and fashion. Makeup artists, retail artists, aestheticians, cosmetologists, hairstylists, fashion stylists, buyers, agents and photographers. Students enrolled in courses related to makeup, hair or aesthetics are invited to attend as well. Proof of professions, such as a business card, industry license, COMP card, etc or student status is required at the door prior to gain entry.

Entrance fees to The Makeup Show include the exhibit floor, main floor seminars as well as Keynote and Business Forums. Show admission tickets can be purchased via an online reservation system or at the door of the event, based on availability. For an additional fee, The Makeup Show offers hands-on workshops; these workshops are offered on a first come, first serve basis sold in advance.

This Man: Last Place in Dad of the Year

  All joking aside, this man is Armond Nelson from Chicago. If like us at the Windy City Gazette, you like to look around the entire city for news, you will see his face everywhere. What did he do?He was stopped when officers in Dolton noticed he was right up next to another parked car. The two just sat there appearing to make a transaction. When the deal seemed to go down, the other car sped away. Nelson initially, according to reports, hesitated on following police instructions. Likely to hide some of the contraband he had in his car. Police noticed  it appeared that he dropped a bag.

Duncan Keith Will Miss Game 4 of Western Conference

Ducan Keith will not be playing with the Blackhawks during Thursday’s game in the Western Conference Finals, after being suspended for the high stick used on the Kings’ Jeff Carter in the last game.

The NHL’s disciplinarian, Brendan Shanahan, has been quoted saying “This is more serious than a case of a player simply having to be responsible for his stick. It is not an accidental high stick, nor is it a defensive high stick to the opponent. This is a retaliatory high stick to an opponent that causes an injury.”
