josh?
where’s the body of christ?
Remember that one episode in the original when the winx thought techna had died so they disbanded themselves because "it's not the same without techna"?
Yeah. Netflix what the fuck.
the people making winx club playlists on spotify understand me in a way that no one else ever will

Not sure if I’m more excited for the Clerith gold saucer date or the part where Cloud’s love life gets accurately predicted by an animatronic cat controlled by a corporate oligarch

When I first watched the show, as a little girl, I used to think that sky was crazy bc Avalon was just her teacher. But yes, now I can see it was grooming and it makes me so uncomfortable. The same goes to the downland plot. I've never paid much attention to how problematic it all was. Winx can be really dark sometimes and they didn't really need to cut down the lightning budget on the netflix show to make a more mature series.
The fake Avalon sub plot is creepy as all hell. Where the hell were the other teachers while he was doing all of this? It should have sent alarm bells ringing for everyone in the faculty.
It has been said before, asks you are exactly right, Winx has always had its dark moments and Netflix really didn’t need to make up its own shitty edge. But here we are.
Winx Club Stella: helps Bloom get into Alfea and makes up a lie to make it work even though it could get her into trouble and she can't afford trouble adter last year because when Stella saw Bloom in the woods, helping her fight Knut, she was like 'yes this is who I want to be friends with.' She told Bloom she had powerful magic and was never jelous, only ever supportive. Stella would kill a bitch for Bloom. The one who keeps the winx together.
Netflix Stella: your local Karen TM, is jelous of Bloom, tries to get Bloom killed or kicked out of Alfea, a total bitch. Hates ever girl on sight because gotta have the cliche blonde rich bitch trope in every good show
Quick question, why do people hate fate the winx saga? Like, it’s honestly pretty good...
(in a strangely cheery voice) Anon! Thank you for the wonderful question.
Here are several reasons why:
obsessed with seeing people who have never been in the tag before and never participated in the fandom and haven’t even WATCHED THE SHOW since 2007 call dedicated lifelong fans ‘mean’ and claim we don’t understand the target demographic and we’re being too harsh.
like, not only is this show implied to be for us, it’s explicitly for us. the fans who stuck around into adulthood. that was the central conceit of the adaptation. they SAID SO in as many words.
we’re allowed to hate it. we’re entitled to criticize it. if you like it, great. get the fuck off my lawn.
You know what? They could have had Stella suffering under pressure to be the perfect princess without turning her into a Regina George. Having issues doesn't equal being a bitch. It's not necessary for a character to start out the absolute worst to have character development. Stella's character development was great in the cartoon and she was never mean. Sassy yes, but she was never a mean girl and a bully. I actually do think cartoon Stella had some of the issues she has in the Netflix show. I can totally see her always putting on a mask of cheerfulness and always being perfectly put together because it's what people expect of her, being the crown princess and all. That people won't like her for who she really is, thst they only like her for her looks and money. And that that's part of the reason why she is is so hurt about Brandon lying to her. She thinks he onky tried to get with a princess and that he thinks she is too shallow to date a commoner. They could have added more depth to her character so easily. Have her open up about her thoughts to her friends and eventually overcome her problems. There. That's how you add depth to a character without turning them into the actual worst.
This show really brought out the true colors abt a lot of people. This show was shit, full stop. The whitewashed 2 different characters, full stop. They turned a female character who was well meaning and maybe a bit insensitive into a bitchy character who causes cat fights. Like? You cannot excuse this??And I really related to Stella in the og show, with the whole well meaning but occasionally rude, and to see her devolved into this. And lemme not even mention the gay character...
Very true. I knew there were going to be a lot of ignorant people who’d find an excuse to overlook whitewashing (among many other issues), but I certainly didn’t expect the number to be this high. It’s downright disgusting to see some of the fate apologists going after people who are truly upset for legitimate reasons. Many won’t sadly understand the issues until they make an effort to step out of their privileged little bubbles and re-evaluate their lives and surroundings. I’m personally trying to stay out of the tag as much as I can.
This is insane.
Don’t you just love it when cast directors don’t do their jobs & do little to no research on an very successful IP? And how the writers & directors are also unaware of their Very White Cast? Yeah, me too!
This casting director needs to be fired. And so do the writers & directors. Retcon the whole fucking thing if you have to (no, that’s too much), BUT AT LEAST DO SOME RESEARCH ON THE THING YOU’RE ADAPTING MAYBE??? That’d be nice!!!
I’m honestly not surprised, but I’m still thoroughly disappointed.
Link to the Reddit post.
I haven’t watched all of fate yet, mostly because it took me 4 hours to get through two episodes in one day and I cannot do that with seven,,
But apparently from the reviews I’ve seen of it, Bloom is a ‘chosen one’. The most powerful fairy ever destined to save the world or something.
And I just-
That’s exactly what the show was not. The show was about a group who could have reasonably been anyone. The only major reasons why the Winx were fighting the Trix is because of a power that Bloom (in the beginning Stella was assumed to have that power) just happened to have.
Bloom wasn’t chosen specially to fight some approaching evil. Bloom was a kid brought to Alfea to learn about her magic and have fun with her new friends. And they aren’t her friends because she’s powerful or has the answers or anything. They’re her friends because they like her. They enjoy her presence. Even when Bloom lost her powers, the defended her and made sure that she was cared for.
Yes, the girls tend to have some sort of tie to whatever big bad shows up, but there’s plenty of very powerful fairies and witches and specialists and sorcerers out there that could’ve probably dealt with the problem too. They chose to deal with it not out of requirement but out of I guess heroism?? Justice? A sense of good? Probably just all of the above.
Sorry I just had to rant about that omfg they did so much wrong. Really did the girls dirty.
